  1. Sounds great - Free riding, just like I had in UK. Is it safe to ride on your own then, Is it in the forests where they had The World Downhill last year? I'll come soon, just getting my fitness back to where it was before I had bronchitis for two months
  2. Thats how they justify the prices they charge - Its mental( I feel sorry for bike mechanics if thats what they have to spend) Im sure a Geodore tool kit wouldnt be half that, then again I could be wrong
  3. No, In fact my very close friends own a bike shop, if the needed anything they would phone Shimano agents direct(no middleman) I still ask them for prices Thats why Im saying it. Im also talking about new bikes and bike parts. Did you see my reply from before - Is that what you do for R350 for a service. As Ive also said some things are fine, and I dont mind paying for them at my LBS. I will also support CWC more then CRC as well
  4. Oh hang on, you have I a 2000 square meter house with 5 swimming pools and have 2 Porsche 911's and numerous Diablo's and Ferrari's. So I guess it hasnt affected business for you So bike shop owners in South Africa are the new investment bankers? Where is your shop if you dont mind me asking?
  5. Im not opposed to anyone making money at all - It must just be relative - We know what things cost overseas, so why, oh why, can they not be more inline with these prices . Im sure its must be bad for your business knowing that a lot of people are going to online shops & overseas for their goods?
  6. Thats one every 10 mins of his waking day
  7. Im quite happy to go to my new favourite LBS and pay for it now, Ill even bite my tongue on the price issue. I think my consumer mentality stems from living in the UK for so long - Where you have better consumer rights, They actually mean business when there is price fixing/colluding going on. Things(prices) are more in relation to what the economy is doing. Right from mobile phones to bicycle and football shirts There is more competition as well. I dont want to seem like a moaning minny
  8. No one, I just want one No ones fighting, just friendly discussion - who knows one day it will have made a difference
  9. Not sure if they are heavy - They say they are light - 4 hour ride with cold water vs 100g. MMmmm ill go with cold water You may have a dump on board that could be weighing that much It has other benefits as well besides the cold water
  10. I dont dispute the price of these tools - I have a lot of tools myself - Not all cycling related - Being a model maker I spent about R20 000 on various tools over three years - Just a question - Why all Park Tool?
  11. Im a Graphic designer/modelmaker/signmaker and a CNC machinist/programmer - I can run a waterjet, laser cutter & waterjet
  12. Thanks, the wife is very very happy thats for sure, All my neices & nephews love it too cause I dont smell The R800 a month will be paying off her bike - So life is great
  13. Again, my point exactly. Well said - As much as they try to justify the costs - I will never believe it. That means Im in the wrong business for sure(thats with a degree & trade as well)
  14. Does the God of Google not offer any suggestions?
  15. Is that for everything, cause I want to have words with my LBS, and the other people I rather take my bike too - They charge A RIDICULOUS AMOUNT(my LBS that is) Ive found this link, Is this what you will do for R350 -https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/82409-exlusive-to-thehub-members/page__p__1143538__fromsearch__1#entry1143538
  16. Why cant the bike shops just go direct - Import there own stuff. Why cant they make money on selling new bikes either - Price them more reasonbly and Im sure they would sell more. For example the new Specialised 2011 Stumpjumper goes for R21 000 what does that same bike retail here for? But the differance in the costs overseas are more relative to what people earn
  17. Where you based I'll be later then , for full service then? I thought that you either worked in a shop or were an agent
  18. GOOD WORK -almost a month for me too Mojoman - Why would they appreciate him more now? Cause he doesnt stink anymore And has more money to spend on them too
  19. That is the biggest load of bollocks Ive ever heard I will always ask - If I hadnt I would have paid a grand more for my wifes bike - Im not complaining, the bike shop didnt complain either. I asked and I shopped around, they competed for my business, didnt ask for the 15% discount off a helmet, they offered again(they wanted my business, not me wanting their business, thats what retail industry is all about if Im not mistaken) They will get my business from now on, they can service all my bikes as well, any parts/consumables I know where Ill be going? My "handle" comes from the bastards that try and rip me off day in & day out
  20. Cost me R500 to service my bakkie, and been qouted R400/new tyre for my car - I would love you to tell me where I can get a full/major service for your bike for R350 - I dont have the luxury of driveing a SUV or 4X4, So yeah the prices are inflated
