  1. My club bib by Nimblewear
  2. Now we all jump on the band wagon and say 'naughty Cajee' - given that they're still very much around and growing, I assume that they have more than their fair share of happy customers.
  3. The lads who lifted the bikes messed up, but that in no way sums up all development riders. I am only to happy to continue my efforts in cycling development and believe me, the lads in question are few and far between, just like the 'non development ' guys that lift bikes and buy stolen gear. Get involved with development and change a life..........and believe me, your life will be the one changed, and for the positive! That's been my experience anyhow.
  4. As always, I'm fascinated at conventional Hub wisdom - the OP is happy to phone call centers and get sage input from fellow Hubbers, which appears to trump a look at his policy docs.
  5. Interesting story, yep interesting.... Be cautious, when deciding on another club, cause you'll be taking yourself along.........
  6. Looking for lots of greetings, while on your bike, join a club and be a part of their rides. Lots of greetings exchanged and friendly banter. Enjoy your own space - go out on your own. Greet if you so wish, don't if you're not inclined to. Bottom line, enjoy your bike. I'm inclined to greet, but then not only when on my bike or in lycra. On another note, people see what they choose to. Those out to enjoy the 'head out the window experience' seem to have less issues with motorists, other cyclists, the roads, the guy riding up the single track, the guy without a helmet..........D istractions
  7. I'm really fascinated at how some of us can confidently say who doped and who didn't. I must admit that I don't know any of the protaginists personally and have to take them at their word, though I must admit with a certain amount of scepticism.
  8. Often a good idea to refer to your policy docs or query from your broker as to what your cover covers.
  9. Happy, I feel you man.... There's but a couple 'mona lisa's', who instead of enjoying their cycle experience, are more intent on it causing them severe unhappiness. Then again, perhaps we need to create a support group for the cycle police, 'cause they seem to take the stress of the job home.....and then they off load on The Hub. Guys, leave the job of policing the cycle community at work, and get on your bikes for fun on the odd occasion. Rediscover the joys of cycling and enjoying that space. And bare in mind that the cycling community at large appreciates you.....
  10. Cycling in the Inchange area on Saturday, I noticed that a vehicle had gone over the edge of a very precarious embankment along the route - drivers can often be the own worst enemy. Read in the news paper last week about how the scourge of drug abuse is growing - people, their won worst enemy. Read almost daily, in the news, of spousal abuse and murder - people, their own worse enemy. Managed to get out on my bicycle on both Saturday and Sunday and boy, what a pleasure it was to be out on the road. Felt like a dog with it's head out of the car window, but then many a non cyclist would think - 'cyclists, their own worst nightmare, choosing to be out on the road, with all the traffic on the road' - have too admit, that in the midst of inherent danger, I sure felt good. And I admit that i'm my own worst enemy....
  11. And the eternal pessimists come out to play.... Parlee overpriced, I suppose given my limited budget, is way out of my range, though there obviously is a market for them, given that they've survived all these years. Trek on a spiral down hill, with Lance moving to Parlee - like cycling, they were there before Lance took honours at TdF and they seem to have survived after his retirement and subsequent fall from grace. While I think that Lance is somewhat of a legend, the wheels have been turning since before the Pennyfarthing.. Funny enough, given some of the acid comments made by many 'lance haters', they appear to have about as much character as he does. It was poor character that led to his poor judgement. Then again, most mobsters/stone throwers are not very forgiving of those that mirror them selves. The way I hear it, Armstrong has not stopped riding, swimming and running, since his fall from grace. He seems to have moved on a wee bit better then many of us functors
  12. Thanks CSA, for again bringing the Msunduzi Road Challenge to Pmb. If just for this race, my R75 has been well spent. While at it, thanks as well to Cycling KZNand all the hard working people in the back ground that have major impact in cycling, here in our neck of the woods. A thankless job, well done. http://csams.cyclingsa.com/media/13147/cyclingsa_email_header_event_communique.jpg Dear Curwin Francis, Msunduzi Road Challenge set to rock Pietermaritzburg in October 20 June 2013 - Preparations are in full swing ahead of the anticipated second leg of the 2014 UCI World Cycling Tour (UWCT), the Msunduzi Road Challenge, to be staged in South Africa once again from 26 to 27 October 2013. The UWCT serves a dual purpose of offering the road cycling enthusiast a chance to cycle the scenic routes with full road closure, as well as provide the seasoned competitor an opportunity to qualify for the once-off UWCT Final in 2014, previously known as the UCI Masters Road World Championships. http://csams.cyclingsa.com//media/20824/uwct_final_2012_tt_lynette_burger.jpg This year’s event is the only qualifying event in Africa for the 2014 UWCT Final, which will be held in the Slovenian capital, Ljubljana. The new lap-race format will be true to World Championship-style racing as opposed to the previous out-and-back course, and the event offers a road race and a time trial. The time trial course will be the same that was used in the UWCT Final in 2012, a 25km loop with start and finish in Wartburg. This year’s road race will also take place in Wartburg, and offers a 40km loop that was used during the 112km race in the UWCT Final in 2012. This loop has to be done twice for men above 50 and women above 40, and twice plus the 25km TT route for men below 50 and women below 40. http://csams.cyclingsa.com//media/20829/uwct_2012_road_race_peloton.jpg Routes: Time Trial: 25km – Men and Women Road Race: 2 laps of a 40km loop making up 80km, or 2 laps of a 40km loop plus the time trial route making up 107km (dependent on age category) The core of the organisational team are the same people that have been responsible for other major successful world-class events in Pietermaritzburg over the past number of years, including the 2009, 2011 and 2012 UCI Mountain Bike World Cups, 2009 and 2011 UCI BMX Supercross World Cups and the 2010 UCI BMX World Championships, as well as the 2012 UWCT Final. Proposed Event Schedule: Friday 25th October 10am - 5pm Rider Registration Saturday 26th October 9am - 1pm Time Trial Competition 10am - 4pm Rider Registration (Road Race) Sunday 27th October 8am - 2pm Road Race Entry Info Entry fees for all distances will be as follows: Time Trial - R 120.00 incl VAT ($ 25.00 or € 20.00) Road Race - R 200.00 incl VAT ($ 35.00 or € 25.00) Click here for detailed information about the Msunduzi Road Challenge, including, route maps and profiles, and general information on Pietermaritzburg as the host city; and start training to be part of another great Cycling SA event. For general enquiries, please email Alec Lenferna alec@realem.co.za, and for event enquiries please emailevents@cyclingsa.com. 13. Fortunately for CWC and all other bike shops, in SA and abroad, for every unhappy customer, there's probably a good couple happy shoppers, or they would have to close their doors. Human nature is such that when we're unhappy, we want to gather a support group, who'll leave with us - even juju is following the trend. I totally understand when guys want to point out a lapse in service to the provider, but it would be especially great when we leave without trying to start a support group. One thing for sure, is that CWC, like most of us, are pretty fallible.
  14. I feel for the family of the deceased, but do we then release the cyclist of all responsibility because the driver was driving without a license. The logic befuddles me. Funny enough, almost 2 years ago now, up here in the Midlands, a fellow cyclist was involved in accident with a taxi. The cyclist was overtaking a bunch, touched a wheel ahead of him and went careening into the oncoming traffic. Mob mentality takes over and everyone wants to take out the taxi driver. Poor behaviour on the part of the cyclists. Anyway, said cyclist set the record straight.
  15. I'm all for the 'I'm my brothers keeper' approach to life, though it's often those that want to point out everyone else's wrongs, who don't take to kindly when they're on the receiving end. Regards cyclists policing each other, the jury's out on that one. While I like to be safe, with helmet, lights, the whole toot, i'm not in favour off 'hub bashing' those that do not take the same precautions. i read many of the posts, which are to shame the offender and judging from the tone of the said post, I'm led to believe that perhaps the well meaning cop needed to up his people skills. Do we honestly have to get aggressive with people that disagree with us and more especially those who choose not to wear helmets, use lights........
  16. I'm trying hard to decide who the actual tjop is. I suppose that the roadie could be considered a tjop for not accepting the well intentioned admonition from a fellow hubber with a large heart. Then again, the well meaning hubber, after not getting the response that he anticipated, get's into a 'nut comparing' exercise with the said offender. If the point was to fix him, you fixed him good............truth be told, I just don't get it. It was his own nog that was at stake or have I missed something.
  17. Personally have a thing for red/black kit and gear , as can be seen in my pic. Not sure that I appreciate blue in cycle wear and gear.
  18. It often helps to ride what you have and hold on with the upgrades until you can feel the difference. Reward yourself for being on the bike for X months, reaching goal weight etc. Too little time in the saddle and too many upgrades are a common imbalance......
  19. Antoo

    Base layer

Compression t's from Mr Price Sport - same as Cambridge t's worn be our rugby guys, at R139 ea - use them here in the KZN Midlands
  20. I understand fully when, whether because of a poor experience or perhaps not liking the shops colour scheme, (or the brand for that matter) on chooses not to buy from them. But when we start 'soap boxing' about that, as happens far too often, here on the Hub. Perhaps the Dept of Health needs to recommend that testosterone be added to our drinking water. Not sure whether it will leave a bad taste in one's mouth......... I do believe that CWC offers an valuable service to the local cycling community, like all other bike shops
  21. Now honestly Chris, with all due respect, how would you know whether you're a recognised agent, or not? Did you ask Wayne, before assuming the you are? A rookie mistake..... Then back to the wheels in question, I'm all for Easton and both my road bikes are shod woth them. Have yet to break a spoke or having bearing issues, though I do know of a guys who has. Then I know others, who like me, swear by them. Now back to Chris........
  22. Happy Martin for president! Being on my bike, out on the road, is a happy place. Wouldn't want to spoil it by believing what is written in our cycling forum. Oh, and while I may not be a 'Labber' myself, they must be doing something right to be getting so many 'new to cycling members, in their bunches. Perhaps a good couple motorist like what they see......
  23. Wine gums guys, it's the whine gums! But then again, they say that another symptom of over training is crabbiness.....perhaps a couple hubbers need time off the bike.
  24. I imagine that there were more than just a few hubbers at Harry Gwala stadium, the other week, looking to make the cut, to get into the RTI.... I imagine that the forum has more 'wannabe cops, than cyclists.......
  25. The bearings are readily available from www.rushsports.co.za - for us in Pmb, a trip to their Mkondeni shop.
