  1. Roadies are like this... MTBer's are like that...... Fixies are like this...... Tandems are like that.... Commuters are like this.... Tri athletes are like.......... Mlungus are like this, abuntu are like that, amaindia are like this, amakaladi are like that....... Zimbabweans are like this, Ghanians are like that, Swazi's are like this, Sotho's are like that....... So a road riding amakaladi is a very different sort of a person to a mtb riding amakaladi - but then again a road riding amakaladi from Zim is very different species to a road riding amakaladi from Swaziland - ludicrous........ So if a cyclist belongs to Cyclelab, he's like this, if he rides for Germiston Wheelers his like that................... AND all Germans were Nazis.....
  2. I agree, with DGM, that the Argus is expensive, when we consider how much it costs us 'out of towners' to get there. That said, I think that if one enters early, the actual entry fee is very affordable. Anyway, this is not the point of the thread....... Regards PPA and CSA - I cannot claim to know the inner workings of either organisation, but it does appear that besides the 'politics' of cycling, there is a lot of personal differences at play. To many bulls in the bull ring and the bulls start to fight amongst themselves, rather than to fulfil their mandate. I must say that the CSA press release is brilliant - factual and concise
  3. One of the current discussions is around the fact that mtb events appear to be not well supported. In light of this, I'm keen to hear how race organisers make these huge profits, as alleged by our friends. Race entry - R150 x 300 entrants = R45 000 After costs deducted, i can't imagine much left in the pot. Now I'd be interested to know the man hours required to put the race together and to manage the event on race day - I doubt very much so that there's much left in the pot.................
  4. What Polar product do you have - CS ???? Have you downloaded the WEBLINK tool. the Weblink tool is your info gateway to Polarpersonaltrainer.
  5. 1x bottle Game juice and 1x bottle water, with a PVM bar does just fine on a 3hr ride..........oh, and mix to taste and you'll not find so sweet. Previously used USN / Biogen products, but no noticeable difference when started using Game - well that's besides the price.
  6. Well we know who's policing the bike lanes, but who's policing the police.......... Wonder if the guys were trying to look/be cool, or perhaps just enjoying their ride - methinks that they were enjoying the time in the saddle.
  7. i find the sweeping statements regards cyclists riding thru farmers lands in Switzerland a bit hard to believe - irrespective of the country you find yourself in, whether in Africa or Europe, land ownership and access rights are governed. During the Tour de france, many landowners allow folk to camp in their fields in anticipation of the Tour passing thru - it would be naive to assume that this is the right of the camper........
  8. Check out Cape cycle systems, the SRAM distributors, 'cause SRAM has a variety of chain wheel sizes available. You can go up to 52/38 chainwheels on a Compact crank. I have made the conversion....
  9. If we rate races on goody bags and expo's, then perhaps we're missing the point! i have no recollection of the race organisers promising an expo, though they can prove to be fun! I must admit that I do enjoy the expo at the 94.7. Do we really need another at the Shova? Good bags, no matter how weak, really get our juices going, but I imagine that in the current economic climate sponsors are not lining up to fill goody bags with useless oddments. Special mention needs be made of the exciting lucky draw held after the race - incl in the draw were 4x Giant TCR bicycles............sweet! I would rate the Shova as a raging success and the no's that took to the road, despite the poor weather conditions, bare testimony to that. Woza Shova 2012......
  10. hey guys Any idea as to wether we have a distributor for Wilier bicycles here in SA?? Contact details??
  11. The ride through Golden Gate, from Clarens to Sterkfontein, is awesome - just be prepared for some serous climbing! The gradients get really tight, at places, in the reserve. I have taken my road bike along, when I've holidayed in the area. Pretty safe road, with not to much traffic.
  12. The frame's BB section's are the same width, so stick your new hollowtech BB in, with your new crank and enjoy. I've had to do the same before.
  13. I've voted for the 'Dale, 'cause I find that Spez can be a wee bit overpriced for whats on offer. I've been shopping to build, and "dale stockists more prepared to negotiate than Spez. That said, the matt black S-works is really fine......... ......and SRAM finishes off the deal!
  14. Solomons Cycles SRAM prices are competetive
  15. This member of the 'They' cycles as my sport of choice.........I occasionally take a walk with my kid, not to go and case peoples bikes, and have to date not stolen anyones bike. Many of the other 'THEY"S' that I know, who cycle as a means of commuting ride Game special mtb's that they saved their pennies for. Let's quit turning these threads into a they/us, whether it be black/white, roadie/mtber, male/female - debate the point, not the person
  16. Gotta agree with you boet - I am my brothers keeper - but why become abusive when he does not want to be kept!
  17. Sounds like a serious case of 2x cyclists with a poor attitude! I wholly agree that we should all wear our helmets when on the bike, and I wholly agree that we should encourage each other to do the same. The reason that I say encourage is that some folk behave like the very traffic police that they resent, in the policing of other cyclists safety. Helmetless cyclist response was obviously unsavoury, but your post makes me wonder how you addressed him. No real excuse to be abusive on both your sides. In fact, a post of this nature leaves a poor taste in ones mouth.
  18. If I get your point - GW should leave out the repairs, can the race and make the Roads Dept suffer........... and suffer they will!!
  19. Funny thing is that I see many a CYCLIST cross training between mtb and road - I suppose that they change hats and attitudes, depending on where they're at. Perhaps you guys have noticed that the tri athletes, on their special machines, don't have the decency to sit up and greet, when they're on the road!!! Not my experience though - the guys seem pretty decent I have generally found that the people that complain about others unfriendliness, are generally not to friendly themselves. I cycle in the KZN Midlands and I find that the vast majority of the cyclists that I pass bye, on my sojourns greet..................... but then I make an effort to greet first...........and I am more of a roadie, who is primarily a cyclist.
  20. Boy do we suffer - I mean the lbs owes us, the distributor owes us - we're cyclist guys come on now - how can you shut down when we need upgrades etc. Its rough being a cyclist - in my next life I will try running - harder on the joints, but no dealings with the lbs! I vote that bike shops and distributors should open 365 days a year! They owe it to us............ and that would keep our oestrogen levels in check
  21. I have to agree fully with you boet - many of these posts are pretty childish! If a product disagrees with you, then you foul mouth it?????? You not happy with your lbs - you foulmouth them...............come on, let's grow up!
  22. To all the black ladies that I saw on bikes - Salute, salute........ Next step - a black lady in the top ten!! This is surely everybodies race............and I'm loving it PS - I love this thread!
  23. My race ended 14 minutes down the line when a lady was hemmed in and hit panic stations, as their group was sucked into ours. I assume that she has limited group exerience. I hope that she completed the race without any further mishap, and that she is more street savvy after this race. I think that when one enters races like 94.7 and Argus, you will encounter more inexperienced riders - let's not go in with eyes wide shut! I think that with all these additives in our food, we men now have to much oestrogen in our systems and now make a point of complaining and pointing out near misses. Still a great opportunity to race/ ride / enjoy the streets of Jozi................... Got to ride my bike with 25000+ other riders - some big, some small, some ready for a fall..............if but for 14 minutes
  24. I had kits made by Le Tour [letour@mweb.co.za]- decent quality and well priced - delivery time was also good.
