  1. Hi SB_CT. Welcome to the hub. I'ts been a while since I've been here, but I've managed to stumple straight to your topic.. Just like dre asked... Do you really want to buy new? To be honest... I picked up a decent Specialized Epic Marathon FS for 10K more than a year ago. XT Equipped. With Avid Juicy 7 Diskbrakes. I only upgraded my suspension fork and rims (I am a heavy guy). The bike hasn't dissapoint me yet. Just make sure that you take a friend who knowes something about bikes (that i if you are not sure of everything) with you when you decide to go secondhand, The thing with full suspensions... You lose a lot of power with a FS on climbs. That is if you can't lock out the shock. And I don't think that you will find a new bike in that price range with a lockout shock. If you buy second hand, you can get much better groupsets for the same price. Hope that all my babbel helps. Good luck!
  2. Hello my Friend. I will also take a raffle ticket. Can't promise anything right now but I'll do my best to see if I can find something in the line of accomodation in Colesberg. Will you be sleeping there on the returning trip as well?
  3. Thanx for this usefull info!! I've have the problem that the chain is skipping. Now I know exactly what to do.
  4. Hi guys. I don't know whether I have posted this under the correct category but anyway... Can anybody help me with the url of the site where one can claim vitality points for races completed? I totaly forgot what the url is. Thanx.

    fit track

Don't know anything about Fittrack but I've downloaded Sports Tracker from the Nokia OVI store. It is an awsome app that works with your GPS on your phone. Very Nice
  6. If they was so super strong, it would not have happened what had happened to me. And no... I was not riding like a maniac. Just the normal cross country. So my opinion...::thumbdown:: for Crostrail.
  7. I am not sure how much truth there is in the 85kg's weight limit though because nowhere on any review or on the Mavic site I could find anything regarding a weight limit. I was purely stating something that my LBS said to me. And he is a really trusty and helpful guy. I think that, if it is true, it would be more of a safety measurement for a LBS or Mavic itself, just to make sure that (like I stated earlier) a big oke like me does not put them under any claim commitments that is not fair. I did not have the Crossmax though. I also had the Crosstrails and one of the spokes sheared out of the rim, cracking it badly. My LBS are replacing the rim and repairing the wheel as we speak. And then it will be up for sale because there is big nasty thundercloud hanging above my head with Stans ZTR Alpine lightning spiking me in the back. But ja... I could not resist buying them. At least the problem is solved and I can still enjoy my MTB.
  8. I think the weight limit of 85kg's on Mavics is just to protect themselves from big guys like me who wants to put in a claim. 120-125kg's I a hell of a lot heavier that 90-95kg's. Mavics is really not for me.
  9. Then the ZTR Alpine wil be more that sufficient. To be honest. I am 1.9m and weigh a big staggering 120kg's. Im am still losing (or trying) weight. Hoping to reach 110kg's. You actually should not have a problem with Mavics though. According to my LBS Mavics has a weight limit of 85kg's. The ZTR Alpine's are really light rims and, like I said... Bulletproof.
  10. What is your weight? You don't have to tell but if you are a big guy like me, forget about any Mavic. Mavic has got a weight limit on them and I broke my back wheel about 3 weeks ago. I now have ZTR Alpine with A2Z Hubs. Bulletproof!!
  11. I don't have either of the products, but one of my friends has the Garmin. It is really a nice HRM to have with everything you need. The only drawback would be that you have to recharge the battery. And as far as I know it is not so with the Polar.
  12. Hi Squier. When are you going. I am there on easter weekend and would also like to find out more about routes for MTB. So if you could also give me some feedback, it would be much appreciated.
  13. All I can say is.... I LOVE THE HUB.
  14. SirK. You can stay there by all means. I will be "Kamp Kommandant" and I will see to it that the okes behave. We will only let some chiwawas lose.
  15. I might be wrong but I heard from a couple of guys that Giant had problems with their frames. Dunno what frames exactly. I would go for Specialized.
  16. Sorry. If I saw this post earlier, I would have helped you. But Yes for Vitality points and Yes for Sonicklink. And Yes you need a microphone for the soniclink.
  17. Well Said!!

    MTB SIZING

http://www.extreme-adventure-sports.com/mountain-bike-sizing.html http://www.ehow.com/how_14104_determine-correct-frame.html http://www.sierratradingpost.com/lp2/bike-fit-guide.html Welcome to the Hub. I hope that some of these links could give you some advice. Happy Riding!!
  19. Both ads have the same photo's. Either a scam or the seller has a bad case of MPD and sometimes he is a mountainbiker in CT, sometimes he is a surfer in DBN. When he is the surfer. Da price is cheap dude! Cause he wants to buy a new surfboard. When in Capetown, he is a serious mountainbiker, ready to take on the next Epic. Weird S&*# if you ask me...
  20. That is a bit harsh to generalize like you do. Sorry to hear about the bike jacking!! Not good! That why I realized that I am very fortunate and priviledged to live in a small town where things are not so hectic!
  21. I might be wrong on this. I also use Joes. Used a CO2 once or twice but I did not have the problem. My Question is... Isn't it more the case that the CO2 freeze the sealant and not dry it up? We all know that because of the high pressure in that cartridge, the gas freezes as soon as it escapes. Like I said. Used it once or twice but still had enough sealant left afterwords. But I would also recommend using a pump.
  22. My kind of machine!
  23. Nothing wrong with a Scott Speedster. Two of my friends has Speedsters and they are doing fine. If the salesperson at the shop tells you that you are waisting your time to buy below 12K, ask him if he/she wants the sale or not. Then you will see how opinions will be changed. I can also recommend looking for a decent second hand bike. Just get a pel who knows something about cycling that can give you advice. If you really want to buy new, I'll say go for the Scott. You know what your specific needs are and what you describe in your post, the Speedster is more than enough. In the end... It does not matter how expensive the bike is... It wants to be peddaled to get somewhere. Good luck with the purchase!
  24. Thanx Chubba. Will have a look at it.
