  1. Thanks Drongo - the pic doesn't do it justice! Will put up some real photos when she's mounted... Had a long look at the Carnegie bar as well - decided on the On-One and went local via Kiwi... Think Fonda in Easy Rider...
  2. Thanks MT!
  3. Weight? I probably need to lose about 20kg's...
  4. King remains tempting... Will be taking my current one over to the new frame - and suppose I should take the plunge and go for quality over price... PRO Headset will be about R350/R400... CK double that easily... Fork. Not rigid, yet... Cheapie I bought off a fellow hubber, just to get things going. Will no doubt upgrade soon... Have been looking long and hard at rigid - but I'm no lightweight, and have come across forums where rigid's have been reported snapping... Makes me a tad nervous... This being said... looking at this: Brave Hardrocker CrMo It's one of the few that can still take v-brakes, as opposed to canti's - so thinking of taking the plunge, even if I simply keep it as backup...
  5. Please excuse this blatant and pointless self-indulgence... But I'm just getting so excited for the build of the new SS, that I can hardly help myself... Putting it out here will almost make it feel real, and placate me for a bit longer... Handle bar [On-One Mary] Stem [KCNC] Brake levers [Avid Speed Dial 7] Brakes [XT v-brakes] Headset [Hope] Fork [Fox F80 RL] Frame [DBR Axis TT] Post [Thomson Inline Elite] Saddle [brooks B17 Special] Crankset [shimano Deore M542 - new, blades still to be removed] Wheelset [shimano old-skool Parrallax] Tensioner [DMR STS] Am I forgetting something, apart - obviously - from an actual bike?
  6. Thanks Drongo... Had a look for service manuals - not concerned that much about the spring side - but all that the manuals/vids say about the damper side, as far as servicing is concerned, involves replacing the entire damper unit... So will be thinking of simply applying grease both sides - and letting her be... Really not looking for any miracles, just want a reasonably functional unit until I decide if I want to invest in something good... Will probably drop a line to JB, and abuse his good-natured willingness to supply gratis advice! [Possibly with the proviso that my next fork will be bought through him! ]
  7. Thanks Tankman - will check that out, I do recall seeing something to that effect.
  8. Didn't you get the memo about levitating over puddles? Duh! Just spotted you had it fixed! Awesome, and happy miles on the new steed!
  9. Hello All, Bought a cheap-cheap Suntour fork off a fellow Hubber. Want to use it on my SS - will worry about something better if the bug bites good and proper... Opened her up - dirty, and a fair bit of wear and tear... [all good - as expected] Not concerned about anything too expensive - don't want to waste more money on something that only put me back R300.00 So - lithium grease it is? Smear around the inners after having cleaned the ugly stuff out... This should keep her going for another month or 6, no? How much is too much grease? When it starts squirting out the top/bottom? Any suggestions from those who might have done a cheap-cheap fix on a cheap-cheap fork will be appreciated! Brand-names of the grease - and where to get??? Here be some pics: Fanks!
  10. Was wondering why this had received so little comments - and then noticed this was only put up an hour ago... Will be interesting to see the reaction in the AM...
  11. Hello All, When I was a member of PPA, many moons ago - I was given a timing disc/chip - that I used for all of two 'races'... It's been lying at the bottom of my tool bucket ever since. Today - entered via Racetec, and the registration process informed me about the self-same chip, that (amazingly) was still on the system... Can I simply take this along to the ride on Sunday? What do I need to do on Sunday morning to reactivate it? Many thanks!
  12. AWESOME!!!
  13. Did he land it though? They seemed to cut away as he met up with the ramp - but no shots of him making it down...? Friggin insane - regardless...

    New Saddles

Oooohhhh. Silly me... Geez - I don't know? I suppose that could work - you interested in protecting it for a bit longer?... What saddle is it? Bound to be someone on the Hub who thought of something similar...

    Scotchgaurd? As in the tape?

    New Saddles

    Bless it?
  17. To be shortly followed by the first(?) online make-up, I hope!
  18. PM JB - but FWIR, whereas the tightening the topcap initially plays a role - the real issue is the clamps of the actual stem - they are what 'holds' the fork in place securely... Just had a squizz at the Parktool link - thanks BigS - pretty complete link that!
  19. Useful question this. Bump it tomorrow morning if you don't get any responses tonight!
  20. All I'm interested in, all I've really ever been interested in knowing, is....
  21. Careful you don't get cited as a co-defendant to appear with him before the Equality Court...
  22. Thanks HC - I've 'favourited' Orex, and will keep them in mind if I need to do the deed!
  23. Thanks Morpheus - have you posted/received any wheelsets? Also interested in the actual packaging - i.e hard plastic / only cardboard with lots of bubblewrap?? The spokes just strike me as asking for a beating?...
  24. Hello all! Would those who've had complete wheelsets posted to them, please share what it takes in the form of packaging to have them arrive safely? How does CRC post complete wheelsets without damaging them? Looked at plenty of wheelsets for sale here on the Hub - but have usually been put off (alternatively - the seller is) when the parties are in different provinces... JB - if you build wheels for people down here - do you courier/post them complete? If so - what do you do to get them to their destination undamaged? I've seen how some of those Tannies toss packages around in the back room, whilst looking for my PE3242429202uZA parcel - quite the eye opener... Just trying to get an idea of what it takes/how easy it is to get wheels across the country - and what needs to be asked for/can be expected in terms of posting them... Fanks!
  25. Anyhooos - back to the original question - in answer to a Hubber long since past caring what the outcome of this might be... Despite all the disagreements so far - can we agree on this one thing: [Tongue inserted firmly into cheek]This dude, had it wrong from the get-go, and then gave up trying...
