  1. Aah - ja - just did a search - the R195 must be the BBB Rolerboys, which I think is the one with the ceramic bearings. I have these - and they run sweet. Not sure about the paint issue on the KCNC - but that would put me off a bit...
  2. I replaced both jockey wheels on my XTR some time early last year - might even have been the end of 2009, with the BBB's... No problems whatsoever. I recall paying more than R100 for the two though - and for some or other reason, although I'm really stretching my memory here - but rembember being told that the BBB's are essentially the same, and I *think* this was due to one of them also(??) having a ceramic bearing [TBC]... Regardless - been happy as Larry with mine. Must be honest though - if price was similar, would look at the KCNC one's - purely for the bling...
  3. *Surprisingly*, I opted not to make a dash of it yesterday afternoon... I did however venture out this morning, though overslept and left a whole 45 mins later than planned... Regretted that a tad, as by 07h30, it was proper hot already... Decided not to be a hero dumbass, and cut my ride short... Will leave earlier tomorrow morning!
  4. Thanks JB - will keep all of this in mind, though I reckon it would probably be easier if I just get you to build the wheels! Will probably be PM'ing you in due course!
  5. Harbijan is tearing holes at the moment... All 4 wickets by him?? Going to be a tense affair for the rest of the day - really tricky to call this!
  6. I would like to see the following: 1.) A section clarifying who pays for postage - or what postage will cost/is being charged; 2.) Whether the seller has a preference to only sell to Hubbers in their immediate geographical area; 3.) Also, although the question might be pointless, it is asked numerous times: "Why are you selling?" - i.e. Reason for selling?; 4.) Comprehensive description of the condition of the goods - generic terms such as "as new", "used once", "straight off a new bike" should be clarified - possibly by having a post put up where Hubbers can suggest the 'definitions' of these and similar terms - and then have each seller 'pick' on or more of them, as radio-button options - in a compulsory manner when posting a new 'for sale' advert. If the Hubber is forced to select one of the options, he/she should then be more careful about how they go about describing their goods, and ensuring it links up to which ever 'option' the had to select... [hope this makes sense? ]; 5.) Payment terms might also be included as an option - it might open the door for some who would be willing to have payments made over a few months - before transferring the goods?; 6.)If a seller will only release upon funds being cleared - this must be stated - together with what the buyer requires as a "proof of payment"... My 2 cents!
  7. I have no idea why - but Dave Tapson just reminded me of a line from Mr. Adams: "The storm had now definitely abated, and what thunder there was now grumbled over more distant hills, like a man saying "And another thing…" twenty minutes after admitting he's lost the argument." Figure I should have a read through that trilogy in five parts again...
  8. No way!!! 56!!! Did the race organisers tell you guys that!? Would've thought they would have stopped things - that's pure insanity! I would've died. No two ways about it. Dead. Finish. Klaar.
  9. Hello all! Took a flip up Paarl Rock this afternoon. Got home as the wife arrived - temp on the car thermometer read 40deg, and this was well after 18h00... Even the breeze was hot. Ran out of water. Fell into the pool. Won't do this again soon. Which had me thinking about the Epic riders, and those other stage races... They get hot - don't they? So why not share some war-stories on what the hottest verifiable temperature was that you've ridden in, and how you felt on during the ordeal Me: I think I had an out-of-body experience, and had a casual chat with Hell's marketing department. I think I told them that based on my previous career - which apparently guarantees me a spot down there anyway - I'm not so scared anymore, since Paarl is hotter
  10. Thanks Dawie, Will definitely be doing Petrus next. Will be in Grootbrak in December, and might make the trek north for the day.
  11. Yanks call this "mullet style" - disc front, v's at the back... I might actually end up going this route on the 'new' frame. Unicoi might be a bit too flexy with discs at the back...
  12. Thanks Renier... I figured as much - but I've yet to start worrying about disc-specific terms/tech, so thought I would check. I basically wanted to know whether a v-brake rim would 'align' with a disc-specific hub without any issues - I presume they would? 32h hub needs a 32h rim - irrespective of whether the rim is v-brake or disc-specific? Is it that simple?
  13. Hello all, This strikes me as being a rather silly question - but reckon I've asked so many in the past - so why stop now! I'm resurrecting an old frame in the next few months, that runs v-brakes but that can be converted to take disc. My current frame is v-brake only, so I initially plan on carrying all across as is. When time and budget allows - I'll upgrade to disc - and convert the first frame to a SS. My v-brake wheelset will then go back to the SS. Therefore, at some point - I'm going to have to buy/build a new wheelset. My current wheels have treated me well over the past 4 years - but don't really want to take the rims through another wet, muddy winter... I'm accordingly thinking of getting a new wheelset sooner, rather than later, and leaving the current set for the eventual SS, where they can be used more selectively. Question: Is it possible / does it make any sort of sense to build a wheelset that essentially has disc-specific hubs etc., with a v-brake rims/hoops? Something like Hope Pro 2 hubs - DT Swiss spokes - and Mavic XM719s? Assuming I then make the switch, I reason I could then run the disc brakes as per normal, albeit with v-brake rims? Surely I could then simply swap out the v-brake rims for 'disc-specific' rims later? Any opinions / suggestions would be appreciated!

    Sad Day

Very sad to hear. But no doubt he will now be in the great big XC track in the sky, where there are no uphills, only sweet, sweet downhills! Our thoughts to all his friends and family!
  15. Hello all, I'll be taking my current XT crankset over to a new frame, which will see me having to buy something new (albeit it quite possibly 2nd hand!) to put back on the soon-to-be SS frame. Is there anything specific that I need to keep in mind - or can pretty much any crankset out there, be safely converted to run a single blade? I've already popped up a post for any old XTR cranks - purely since I fell in love with the Thug's Jones mod - but have seen some other decent cranks on offer on the Hub - if the price is right, can I simply buy - or is there something specific that I must keep in mind, that might save me effort and RRR's in the long run?? Fanks!
  16. Uhm, nope?
  17. One more thing though - don't forget about a rather more simple point... If you purposefully leave out a few crucial 'facts' when you pop up the post - you quickly have 3 or 4 free "BUMPS" from fellow Hubbers, flaming you for 'neglecting' to put up a few crucial facts... I've come across a few 'for sales' where I wondered whether or not the above was done on purpose... Or maybe I'm just cynical! Or too generous in my assessment of their sales-savvy!
  18. I agree with the sentiment that the buyer/seller dynamic - and the "flaming" dynamic of the Hub, should dictate the manner of the classifieds section... It actually serves to tell you a bit about the seller - in the absence of a "rate-the-transaction" tool as one finds on Ebay. A person who pops up the perfect "For sale" post, tells me that a.) they've probably sold on The Hub before; b.) they know a thing or two about The Hub; c.) they're not necessarily technologically challenged, and so will presumably be quick to respond to emails/PM's etc; and d.) are covering all the bases in advance, to contribute to a quick and easy sale - which will probably mean it will be a quick and easy sale!...
  19. Here be the first of 2011's little projects... The 'before' pics... The 'scar-your-retina' yellow of the main stickers look better in the pics than what they really were, so took took some drastic action... After acetone and some light sanding/buffing: Am considering ordering the original decals again - but might go silly with custom-made, i.e Slitespeed... Will run v-brakes initially... Still doing a little bit of research before taking the plunge on going disc - apparently some of the bigger riders reported flex at the back, which saw them running them mullet-style (disc up front, v's at the back)...

    Attack- Hermanus

That's simply unacceptable. Hermanus is a big place in season - not so big out of season. I would kick up an unholy stink in the local newspaper - write a letter addressed to the Station Commander etc., speak to the Dominee etc. etc. but don't let this slide - before you know it incidents like that become common, and there goes the proverbial neighbourhood... Of course - you might only be there on holiday?? Glad to hear your dad was ok!
  21. Was researching buying a 2nd hand mtb - wanted info on titanium as a frame choice... Googled and fell into a conversation involving TitusTi and some others... And the rest, as they say...
  22. Looking good Covie! Word of warning though - be prepared for a possible visit from the "no bar-ends on riser bar" brigade!! Please do the bike proper justice, and take the proper pics with the proper camera - on a couch - dirty, or clean (the bike that is, not the couch) Oh - and many happy miles!
  23. I don't have a 32 waistline... I will only ever buy a Brooks... Check out their website - you will find XC types - and do a search for Brooks on the Hub. Be advised though - I am seriously biased!
