  1. Can anyone post updates about best times please
  2. Dont know if the extra 10k is worth it paying for the SL. Personally I think the Advanced looks better with the cutout in seatpost stay. Theres alot more you can spend the 10k on like wheels to bring weight down if youre fussy about that. Checkout the BH Connect on sale currently at Complete Cyclist for the price of an Advanced. Super stiff frame for sprinting, even the BH G5 is going for the price of an SL if youre looking for an ISP.
  3. This is what I found out. Join up with a club first and then join PPA who will cover your R75 membership to CSA. Alternatively you can pay a R35 day licence everytime you race in a sanctioned event. Advantages of joining PPA is that you get seeded for PPA races and you can get points if you wanna race in the leagues. As you race in PPA events you can improve your seeding if you do well as time goes on. Wrt CSA licence you should only need a full racing licence if you want to race provincial and SA Champs which for the licence will cost you R350 last time I checked which runs from Jan to Dec. Buying a full racing licence now would be a waste unless you want to race provincial champs but check first if its going to be a requirement. Definitely for SA Champs you will need one. PPA membership runs from July to end of June next year. Joining PPA gives you preferential starting times for the Argus and other PPA events. PPA subs are R270 if I'm correct. Personally I'm joining PPA and will see how my form and finances are to travel to SA's before I fork out R350 for a racing licence. Hope this helps. http://www.cyclingsa.com/member.aspx http://www.pedalpower.org.za/road/

  6. Thanks for the info Tankman. Appreciate it
  7. I wanna get into racing next year with the aim of doing WP and SA champs possibly, not saying what age group. What is the best option when renewing memberships? PPA has the league racing and you get a CSA membership included but according to CSA you need a full racing licence to compete in Province and SA Champs, a day licence is not enough. CSA licence is R350 excluding R75 for membership. PPA has the racing leagues if I'm correct and sure you can race in them without a PPA membership but to use them just as training without getting league points is fruitless and you can improve your seeding by being part of PPA. Do I just get the racing licence for the sake of maybe doing Champs and waste my R350 or do I get PPA and benefit from seeding and leagues and then still pay CSA licence with the hope of doing Champs. Any advice would be appreciated please. Thanks
  8. If the look works for you it might just start a trend. Technically that front wheel should be lighter than the deep section and you are saving weight. I mean people are still debating why we shave but we do it anyway. I think it looked good. So what if your saddle doesnt match your handlebars either
  9. Bender what was the reasoning behind the wheel change?
  10. Bender what was the reasoning in the first place to use that wheel configuration?

  12. Coffee is good enough to get you going because of the caffiene. As faras keeping you going you gonna need some carbs in the form of a energy drink which you normally use. I would take one bottle od water as well. Just remember coffee is a diuretic so expect a stop especially early morning because of tbe cold. Our blood vessels constrict in the cold so our body compensates for by having the kidneys work a bit harder and create more urine to regulate your blood pressure. You could substitute your coffee for dark hot chocolate, there was a useful article in the recent Ride magazine on this, or milo which will give you some carbs and then have some oats or any other low gi cereal for breakfast because you want a slow release food source to sustain your energy levels. Its not impossible to bonk on such a short ride. What we sometimes also forget is our post ride meals so include proteins in that, something simple like a protein shake or a steri stumpie funny enough. Hope this helps

  14. What I have done when looking at new products I usually just google for reviews. Lot of reviews are available online from magazines and buyers alike. Compare them to write ups fom the manufacturer and then decide. Consider as well what you gonna use them for.

  22. I work in emergency services and all too often I have collected cyclists from falls and noticing damages to helmets I could clearly state that if those cyclists had not worn their helmets their brains would come off 2nd best against the road, rocks or a tree. Often I see cyclists be they commuters or kids that dont wear helmets and they sustain injuries that could be avoided. I dnt understand the point of the research anyway by testing whether a helmet helps or not. No wonder the results were inconclusive. Its a choice between being able to tell the story about your accident or having to feed yourself through a tube attached to a bag and have someone else wipe your ass and change your adult diaper for the rest of your life or even having your family cry at your funeral. A helmet would not save you injuries or death all the time but it definitely minimises the risk immensely. Whether you are commuting , training or just taking your bike around the corner after a wash wear your helmet and do so for your kids as well. It just takes a kid to fall over with their bike from a stationary position and knock ghier head to cause some serious damage. If wearing your helmet doesnt make you look cool buy a cool helmet.
