  1. What makes XT pedals better than the bottom of the range fair? Is it weight?
  2. At those prices I'd buy bags and bags! It's a pain buying nuts from shops: Most of the nuts are k@k, even the Woolies ones I buy are rancid.
  3. LMAO. We spoke about the BB spanner, even compared the BBB to the Exakt! and he showed me how it fits onto a bottom bracket, but I forgot about it. Ah well, will buy it when I collect my serviced bicycle. So that's Just shy of R700 for a "gets-the-job-done" LBS toolset. Still happy to buy it.
  4. Group buy for tools is dead in the water. CRC won't offer us a special discount for a group buy on tools, initial discounts no longer apply and the exchange rate is also eating away at the cost-benefits. Went to my favourite LBS in Silverton this morning. Guy had some great toolsets available. Had a toolset going for just shy of R600 which has more tools than I care to count (box lists 17 items, and that doesn't count tire repair patches and individual hexes as pieces LMAO). Seriously, ask your LBS for tools. You might be surprised by what they can offer you http://i1249.photobucket.com/albums/hh508/rudig/Crank/IMG_20130624_134251Medium_zpsf03619cc.jpg http://i1249.photobucket.com/albums/hh508/rudig/Crank/IMG_20130624_134707Medium_zpsfa58295b.jpg Response #1 - Didn't answer question Hi Rudolf Thank you for your e-mail. 5. Just sent an email asking for a special concession on a hub group buy to the CRC team. Will report back when I get a reply. Pick-up will be in Illovo, Jhb, near the Wanderer's Cricket Grounds and the Golf Club. If the deal is really good I'll think about counter-to-counter SAPO service, but that's too much admin if SAPO is on strike again or the parcel falls off the back of the truck
  6. Great idea! Will ask them and report back to TheHub.
  7. Maybe everyone's wading through the reddit info? The thread lost direction quickly without guidance from the experienced old guard. Okes thinking LCHF was high protein and not high fat and taking offence when someone points out their ignorance (and it is ignorance if you can't be bothered to read the OP, nevermind the title).
  8. The concentration of electrolytes in the bloodstream goes up during exercise as sweat is supposedly hypotonic, but the total amount of electrolytes goes down, thus one needs to eat again post-exercise to replenish those as one rehydrates. But I have no clue about the timing differences of electrolyte replenishment vs rehydration.
  9. Order is still OPEN.
  10. Image didn't load. http://i1249.photobucket.com/albums/hh508/rudig/CRC1_zpsa2de9f53.png
  11. Same factory, different colour? That was my thinking. Are the blue and silver ones really different from the black ones? Just checked out my CRC cart again last night. Here is my basket:
  12. Finally found a pic http://brimages.bikeboardmedia.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/2011-shimano-xt-3x10-dynasys-crankset-weight02.jpg Doesn't look like the splines go the entire length, but still confused about why mine look as though there used to be splines.
  13. Kosmonooit, that was my first worry as well, as in the first pic it looks like a good 30% of the spline length is worn down. No one else thinks it's a problem, though. I also prefer greasing things up to keep moisture out (not only because I'm on LCHF). Cheesed about the crank falling off, but if the splines are hundreds as stated before, then I can turn a blind eye, clean everything up, regrease (sorry for the mess @ next service, JB ) and reinstall. It's impossible to find pictures of the inside of the crank, especially the profile on the inside which looks worn down by me. Checked Google, Shimano website, googled the crank's model number
  14. Don't use any tools for extra leverage otherwise I'll tighten the plastic retaining ring too tight and ruin the bearings? Will use an Allen Key and do multiple takes to make sure it's tight. Will try not to overdo it.
  15. So the silver pin is just a gimmicky failsafe. Thanks for the info, Patches! Looking at other pictures I think I see where it belongs. http://i1249.photobucket.com/albums/hh508/rudig/Crank/IMG_20130618_191452Medium_zpsa1c379bd.jpg OK, I will clean everything up and use loctite (purple) on the bolts and torque them on tight as possible with an allen key. That way I don't have to worry about the crank coming loose before upgrade time
  16. Happy 6000th post I don't know what the green lube is as I didn't assemble the bike. I've heard people arguing for and against grease on the splines, so it can't be all bad Guess it was hopeful at best to think that the silver pin wasn't necessary. Fark.
  17. Thanks, bud! I'm glad the splines are still good Drop me a pm with your details and I'll visit later this week.
  18. Was riding the Spruit with my brother on Saturday. His non-drive side (left) crank came loose at the bottom of the new slalom single-track next to Bantam Dr. Thanks to the guys who let me use their allen keys to tighten the crank back on. :thumbs-up: Bike's done about 15 hours now. Please look at pics and let me know whether the profile of the splines is still hundreds. Not sure why the cellphone camera makes everything look . It's a 2013 Shimaon XT crankset. If the profile is hundreds, then all I'll do is clean the crank, re-lube and re-attach. If something is amiss, I'll ask the guys who assembled (nicely) to make it right. Also, what is the silver pin @ 8 o'clock inside the crank splines in pic 1? http://i1249.photobucket.com/albums/hh508/rudig/Crank/IMG_20130617_095409Medium_zpse8f0eb74.jpg http://i1249.photobucket.com/albums/hh508/rudig/Crank/IMG_20130618_191443Medium_zps71838464.jpg http://i1249.photobucket.com/albums/hh508/rudig/Crank/IMG_20130618_191532Medium_zps12fccf4c.jpg http://i1249.photobucket.com/albums/hh508/rudig/Crank/IMG_20130618_191545Medium_zpsefbab13f.jpg
  19. Where is Father Coffee? Can't open link. Bounced with "Account Suspended".
  20. I think the top jockey also has a different kind of bearing/bushing than the bottom one in order to allow for the left/right movement.
  21. Motha@#$!A The price went up in the time I was waiting. Even though it was in my basket. Was still 657 two hours ago.
  22. Interesting responses. Hadn't read about any cons for ceramic except the cost. Also read that I can use any which one, so long as the number of teeth correspond to mine. Problem was that googling some of the codes and descriptions brought up nothing I could use to ID whether for 9spd or not.
  23. Buying some things from CRC. Don't know which Jockey Wheel to choose even after researching for a whole hour (CRC have a limited selection). http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=885 I have a Shimano Deore XT 9 spd RD.
  24. Free shipping after R1999. My order is over R2k already, so anyone interested in the toolset let me know tonight! Bicycle goods (TOOLSET!!!) coming my way!! Can't wait
  25. No one else in Jhb want to get in on the action?
