  1. Thanks. Do you just rock up before your start time or should you be there earlier for some or other reason?
  2. How do you see the seeding?
  3. Any place were we can read up? Would like to know what I'm supporting...
  4. Two wrongs don't make a right... Like with the constant warning for people who shouldn't trespass after 5 on some of the links, perhaps it's time the club takes a proactive approach and start policing/banning members instead of putting things out into the void and hoping people read through another rant
  5. Only been a member for two years but those emails have always come across as unprofessional and a whine session. If it's not to dry it's to wet etc. The subcontractors this year have done a great job with keeping more trails ride-able. Perhaps it's time to give one of them the reigns for some fresh blood.
  6. Yes MTB should be banned from roads, those slow pokes just get in the way and when it's not a slow poke they end up wheel sucking. How can any respectable roadie have a MTB on your wheel?
  7. Yeah never said what he did was okay, but you never know how people are going to react when you mess with them. The whole why the story was reported took responsibility away from the kids. Both things can be true, MVP overreacted and the kids pushed his buttons.
  8. And how many people do you think have the personality for that type of work? Or that when you are working for something greater than yourself or in the servitude of others it's easier to put things into perspective? Apples and oranges comparison that. I'm also sure you never had a bad day in your life where you snapped at someone in your personal life?
  9. People tend to get very irrational when sleep deprived or stressed. Hell being tired and driving is about the same as driving while drunk. Should he have done better? Yeah. Should the parents have let their kids run feral? Should 12 year old's know better? Yeah. Shitty people all round Did he ever push her? From the video it seems like she fell running away from him, he then grabbed her
  10. No wonder people as so inconsiderate, if you can do as you please and not have any consequences... Sleep deprivation, stress and the most he did was grab one by the arm? They got off lucky.
  11. In about 5000 km's I only had one puncture (Touch wood). That's partly why I haven't gone tubeless. On the mountain bike it's a different story, went tubeless within a week
  12. Hi I need some advice on Road bike tyres. What do you have and what do you recommend? I currently have a set of bontrager R1's 25mm which are getting squarer by the day. Which are some good mid-range tyres to get? I run tubes, my rims are TLR but not convinced to spend the extra $ to get tubless tyres but a good deal might temp me. Mostly just training rides around Durbanville but I do like to go fast.
  13. I haven't ridden there yet but perhaps give Faircape and klipheuwel a look? https://www.trailforks.com/region/faircape-23173/?activitytype=1&z=12.7&lat=-33.75651&lon=18.62131
  14. I read up on this quite a bit a while back. What you can do is take the adapter to a machine shop and ask them to machine away a couple of millimeters on the adapter were it rubs. Of course if you do do this, you won't be able to swap around the adapter so that it works with both 142 and 148 thru axles.
  15. Joggers and walkers are always encouraged to go against the flow of traffic, it might even be the law. They also have right of way. Yes it creates difficulty for us cyclists but there is no point in picking a fight with them.
  16. You're just not going slow enough with other vehicles 70% of the time it works everytime
  17. Today was a two portions of oats for breakfast kinda day
  18. Cape Town, but I'm taking the wheel back to the shop so they can sort it out. But now at least I have enough information to help them resolve the issue, if it is stripped then it's also easier to get them to replace it.
  19. Not quite there yet, from the above video I can't get enough leverage on the non-drive side part of the axle to stop the axle rotating with the nut. I need a cassette tool to remove the disc brake. That's not to say it's still not stripped further down though. Guess we will find out.
  20. Actually found a video and reddit thread with the same wheel and problem. The "fix" they did in the shop was never going to work. If anyone is interested:
  21. Broken? I fiddled some more, got the entire freehub and cassette of as one piece, cleaned up the axle thread, it was packed with grease and a piece of metal shaving, looking like a sliver of a thread was in there, put the freebody back and tried to tighten the nut, it does tighten but then just starts spinning? Is this normal or does this mean the axles/nut is stripped?
  22. Thanks for the input so far, it's a Bontrager alloy, sealed bearing, CenterLock disc, Shimano 11-speed freehub, 142x12 mm thru axle. This only occurred after a service and took it back when it happened the first time and they fixed it again, that being said after the service if it wasn't for the safety clip on my left crank I would have lost those bolts due to the bolts being loose as well
  23. TL:DR: Cassette has play from left to right, the entire cassette not just a cog, tightening the "nut" fixed the issue. How do I prevent this from happening again tighten it enough? Bikes a year old, took it in for service and withing a couple of rides the cassette had play in it, it would move from left to right and the thru-axle would come loose and not fit all the way through the wheel, the drop out still had threads left not used by the thru-axle. Took it back and they fixed it. This was a couple of months ago, but due to it being winter I used the bike on a direct drive indoor trainer and the wheel it self was only used about 5 times according to garmin. Today when I put the wheel back onto the bike for a ride the thru-axle wouldn't go all the way through, took the wheel of and the cassette had play in it again, I tightened the "nut" by hand and the play went away and the thru-axle seated correctly. Went for a ride, half way through had to re-tighten the thru-axle axle again but when I got home it was fine, is this normal or should I take the wheel back to get serviced, if so what is wrong and what should I tell them? Does this happen because of taking the wheel on and off? How do I prevent it from happening all the time?
