  1. That's why I actually started shopping at woolies, my commute home forced me to either go out of my way to a PnP or Checkers or choose between woolies or spar.
  2. How does the racetec chips work? Do I have to buy one beforehand or are they available when you register?
  3. Woolies fruit and veg seem to last forever compared to the others. I've also never walked into a dirty or old Woolies. While some products are obviously just rebranded, other differ vastly. Try PnP milk compared to the premuim or even discount woolies milk
  4. Shouldn't we be able to use one of those mini UPS's for keeping the internet going? I have this one, my only concern is that it only outputs 12v at 3 amps while the kicker power brick outputs 12v at 5 amps. https://www.takealot.com/gizzu-8800mah-mini-ups-dual-dc/PLID71930088
  5. Anyone been down Rooikat recently? See they redid the beginning of the trail so it all smooth ground. Might just be me but hope they don't redo the rest of the trail. The loose rocks/gravel is what makes it fun and challenging, If I wanted to be rattled before every switch back I would go ride Bloemendaaler
  6. Any details on this? Adderley is fairly far from dunoon, been riding there for a year and haven't heard about any incidents.
  7. I enjoy not having broken bones. I would rather ride safe 12 months of the year than risk months out for a quick adrenaline fix.
  8. Don't ride when it's muddy? A rim with a narrower inner width could also help, I noticed when I went from 25mm to 30mm the clearance of the tire was less and it caused the same issue.
  9. Would I be able to run a 12 speed sram gx derailleur with 12 speed chain on a 11 speed shimano 105 cassette for the indoor trainer? I tested it and only one gear was a bit iffy. I don't plan or running through gears, rather just find one gear that works and then use it for Erg mode training. Can this be done or is it just a bad idea due to increased wear etc? Should I rather just stick with the road bike on the trainer?
  10. Perfect weather today!
  11. Did you get the correct adapter when going from 160 to 180? https://bike.shimano.com/en-EU/service-upgradeparts/mtb/category/disc-brake-mount-adapter.html
  12. I have a 2021 Trek Emonda alr 5. From googling I could not find whether it's only the carbon frames or all frames. Might just go into my LBS and ask them if I could test fit on one of their Kickr/Core trainers and whether they would be able to source the new adapters in a reasonable time frame.
  13. What about the rainy days or the windy days? Thanks for the suggestions!
  14. So with winter fast approaching I've been considering getting a smart trainer and using it with my head unit or some of the apps out there. What do you have? Which do you recommend? Do you actually use it? I've been looking at the Kickr core and Saris h3. The Kickr core seems like it might have compatibility issue with my frame and the specs are slightly lower than the h3. So kinda leaning into the h3 but apparently it's not as polished as the kickr (cadence and accuracy). Any other suggestions?
  15. Went through the process last week, got my new dials a couple of days later. They where even an upgrade on my last pair. Was very impressed!
  16. Never mind the races, they shouldn't even be allowed on the roads. The durbanville hills and the slightest of Southerly winds conspired today and made me go into the red to catch Schrödinger ebiker. My poor roadie ego couldn't live with not knowing if the person pulling away from me on the hills was on a ebike. He then had the audacity to pass me going up St' Johns on the gravel going way faster than me. Well I had the last laugh going down Jip de Jager. Roadie 1: Ebiker 0
  17. After my latest attempts with them, I'd rather pay the premium and deal with shops that actually respond in a timely manner and who's website accurately reflects what they actually have in stock.
  18. Same road, different view.
  19. The wind taketh and the wind giveth
  20. If any one is interested I created a data field for all Garmin edge devices. It will display the average watts for the current ride and when you save the activity it will add the average watts to your fit file which will then display in the Garmin app and on the web: Link: https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/93753c97-6f56-47de-90b7-532cc6d08468
  21. I don't care about power data, just did it to see more or less what the end result would be compared to strava. To much time on my hands between cycling
  22. The math boffins are free to check my math, I only had SG not HG The basic premise is that using the 'kilojoules = watts X seconds / 1000' combined with '4.186 kJ = 1 kcal = 1 Calorie' and 'kcal = kJ / 4.186 / .22' we work out the average watts based on the estimated calories expended during the ride. Here is an article with all the formulas and explaining them: https://stagescycling.com/en_us/content/what-it-means-watts-to-kjs-to-kcals Now how accurate the estimated calories burned are is another question but at least it should be consistently right/wrong between different rides/bikes as long as fatigue etc as you mentioned are more or less in the same ballpark. So there is less dependence on bike, friction, cda etc and a consistent measure of your own HR data. I actually exported all my garmin rides to csv and ran it on 80 rides and it was very consistent. The general trend was that on the MTB the avg watts is less, which makes sense to me as well because a lot of the time on the MTB you don't pedal when going downhill while on the road bike you do pedal. This is over the entire ride not just sections. This would not work for normalized power for instance thus only avg.
  23. As we all know strava's power estimates are not the best, for instance my avg 'watts' on the MTB is higher than on my road bike despite normally actually taking it easier on the MTB (probably due to riding a bit on tar to get to the trails) Out of interest I decided to see if I could work out what my avg watts would be using the Calorie count generated by my Garmin with a HRM. The formula ended up being (Cal * 4.186 * .22 * 1000) / (Time in Minutes * 60), I just took the standard kj to calories formula and moved the variables around. The .22 is assuming and average metabolic efficiency, this could go higher or lower the fitter you are. While the avg watts measure is still subject to lots of errors, it does do a better job of normalizing the effort between different bike types IMO: Just thought I'd share and see what people think
  24. I did the flow trail a couple of times and decided it wasn't worth it for me. It's fast and if you get behind the brakes you are in for a world of hurt if you don't have enough skill and I think there in lies the problem, it was advertised as friendly to all. Ultimately the responsibility is on the riders though so I'm not blaming the trail-builders/club. What I am miffed about though is that I enjoyed 'the pedal fest' at the bottom of Lombard's and were Lombard's and the flow trail meet will probably lead to some accidents. The new and 'improved' last bit is fast and the brake bumps show that most people riding on it probably don't have the skills to do so.
