  1. Am i safe in assuming it would be easier buying a new bike than finding a rigid mtb fork with a straight steerer?
  2. There are always a couple karate monkeys floating around. Probably fit 2.4 easily

  6. Does this also start at 4am?
  7. I was sceptical as I can't even wear a belt without freaking out. This thing is spacious and comfy enough that you forget you are even wearing it. https://killatgear.com/product/wax-moon/
  8. I use these for streaming all road races. I prefer cycling today as the quality is generally better. But if it isn't working tiz has usually has multiple streams of the same race. https://tiz-cycling-live.io/live.php https://cycling.today/live-streaming/ DSTV is garbage. Don't waste your money. Everything is free on the internet if you look and if it isn't there it doesn't exist.
  9. Just go full triathlete and pee all over yourself and your bike 💦
  10. Not COVID apparently https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/high-attrition-rate-as-illness-sweeps-through-paris-nice-and-tirreno-adriatico/
  11. Hell even if they had one of the water points at the end I would have been happy with a handful of potatoes and droewors.
  12. If I ever do it again I will try plan a little better. A bed for the night and something to eat besides an overpriced, dry hotdog would have been golden.
  13. Logistics aren't that bad if you plan bugger all. Only had tickets I bought off the hub. Managed to borrow a vehicle the day before and someone to drive it to the finish two days prior. We slept in the siekeboeg at the hostel, a bargain at R160 each. At the finish we were too wrecked to drive so we chained our bikes to a tree and slept in the Caddy.
  14. It is like having an Alfa Romeo
  15. Surly Karate Monkey and 42c. In hindsight bigger tyres would have made a massive difference but the budget did not allow for it at the time.
  16. I did it on a gravel bike. Unless you have a ripped core and Popeye arms I would suggest MTB. I was crying out in pain after about 170km every time I hit some corrugations, but I am admittedly noodle armed and struggle doing more than 2 sit ups.
  17. Just a little teaser, My brother met a ballie when he dropped his bike off at the bike shop on monday... The dude is also doing karoo burn... he said there is a "small" 24km section of soft sand.
  18. hey, I was offered a car drive service today but I already made a plan. I can try put you in touch?
  19. My Alpina Track Bike is 27.2mm and I am pretty sure the frame under my bed is the same
  20. Off topic but this is the most recent vaguely related thread. Long story short. I bought entries in December. As I earn a salary that a person that wears shorts and t-shirts to work does, I would have to wait until January to get the add ons. No problem. Payday comes and literally the only accommodation left in Calvinia is the last room in the hostel. Again no problem. Accommodation at the finish, sold out. Fine, I will either sleep in the bush or go wake up Tannie Rolene* in Prince Alfred Hamlet at god-knows whatever time we finish. Car Drive Service, sold out. Make contact with Wetsky* wait forever for a response. Ignore my question and pretty much tell me what I already know. It is sold out. No alternatives. I am sure the last thing I will feel like is having to get on my bike and cycle back to Calvinia to get my loaner vehicle. Am I allowed to feel slightly annoyed by this or am I wrong? *Some names have been changed to protect people's identities
  21. This whole discussion is tired vanilla
  22. 23. Good Morning, My bastard good-for-nothing MonsterCross currently has 42mm ”adventure” tyres on it. They are fine on the tar, sing on regular farm roads but find myself losing traction on steeper ascents and touching cloth on looser descents. For my purposes I think these would be a good balance for what I use my bike for: Front - https://www.takealot.com/pirelli-scorpion-29-x-2-6-enduro-mixed-terrain-cycling-tyre/PLID71579392 Rear - https://www.takealot.com/pirelli-scorpion-29-x-2-4-tyre-tr-hard-terrain-cycling-tyre/PLID55548197 I saw these on that copperhead guy's bike and figured if they are good enough for his exploits they will be more than capable for my comparatively mild jaunts. Any thoughts or considerations I may have overlooked? TIA
