  1. 1.86 m and 96-98 kg magic number will be 90 kg ...
  2. I finally decided that I'm tired of having no focused racing goals so gonna attempt the TREK.. but theres a bit of a twist to my approach. You see I work in the offshore industry so training and facilities are limited. I have been riding road and MTB for 3 years so have some sort of base in a sense I bought a program from fittrack 16 week survivor kit.. At the moment doing 4-5 rides a week (with 2 gym sessions in that) on a very crap exercise bike using my HR monitor I will be home early August for a week for some proper riding then I go away for 3-4 weeks and then should have 5-6 weeks at home to finish of the training before I try tackle the TREK My rides are as focused with varying intensities but must admit there is no way I can do a 2-3 hr ride on the bike After some of my hard hour rides my legs feel like they've done a 3 -4 hr ride My plan is to just finish this one and see where that takes me Has anyone tried something like this with limited quality training My biggest concern is the time in the saddle factor that I'm losing out on at the moment.
  3. Vittoria pro-lights are just that very light but I had a set that came with the new wheels I bought After 3 rides around the Peninsula the rear was full of cuts, so a pure race tyre if you've got good backup A good tyre to weigh your bike with.. the front lasted about 5 rides more, only 1 puncture but plenty cuts
  4. Thanks guys Just that you see it mentioned plenty especially with XX cranks ???
  5. I have read up about this before but I forget exactly i did try a search here but no luck thanks
  6. try KCNC pro lite 8 or 9000 I weigh 98kg no problems also the KCNC stem and truativ noir WC carbon bars
  7. I was just giving prices, I think thats crazy money, but merely giving an indication of how the curve climbs after the cheap easy grams
  8. seat post, and stem KCNC scandium save weight and will cost about R1500 probably save 35 grams on the stem and 70 grams on the seat post that will be the cheapest 100 grams KCNC skewers 44 grams you'll save 40 grams over standard skewers if you have QR front and back cheap weight loss R300 After that you start looking at R5 grand for wheels which will save you easily 250 grams then you can save 200 grams with the right tyre choice that is still reliable, R 1000 another good weight saving for the price After that you could look at the shock but then the price starts climbing R5 grand to save maybe 100 grams ( not worth it ) Brakes and rotors R4-5 grand 100 grams Groupset now the price starts climbing R8 grand full XT which I reckon is lighter and better than X9 but probably marginal weight saving, but if you gonna spend on brakes not a bad way of upgrading although XT brakes not that light, the 2X10 crank is definitely lighter As you can see the first 500 grams will come relatively cheaper ( 7800) your next 200 grams looking at 10 000 and I reckon the next 100 will cost in the region of 8-10 Grand thats a rough guide at new prices so you could find things a little cheaper
  9. this could be the start of something .. I have the Fox F29 RLC on my Anthem, I assume it being a 2011 March that the Fork is what,.. 2010/2011 technology I am happy with the shock no complaints I have been weighing up pimping the the bike with A Sid RLT 2012 I assume the SID is lighter but is it better given a year or two of tech being a bigger guy dont want to buy something that flex, although being a 15mm cant see that happening I see the new Anthem have Rockshock on now any advice .. new Anthem owners?
  10. have been trying to find out info but not much forthcoming any links or info appreciated agents prices etc Thanks
  11. Try riding a friends if you can, to get a real feel. you could still get away with a hardtail, the 29er is a bit more forgiving than the 26er The Scott is a good bike though its suspension setup is much firmer than the some other bikes in this category.... you could opt for a proper bike like the Anthem 29er....... there was a good review of the Full suspension 29er under 30K 2 months ago in the Bicycling mag and the Scott scored well for the price, try get hold of a copy its a good read
  12. I have the RLC 29 er fox on the Anthem I have fiddled around quite a bit with rebound and pressures but I cant seem to feel the the difference when adjusting low speed compression what should I be feeling and how to test with sag - adjust pressure with rebound - you can feel how the shock returns at the different speeds relative to setting On the LC cant really feel anything i turned it all the way Anti clockwise and then 2 clicks clockwise if I turn it fully clockwise the lockout lever seems to get a little tight on the LC adjuster Any thoughts/advice I was riding boulders in tokai and got recoiled off one of those tricky sections and thought LC may have been to high ie. fully clockwise?
  13. going through Explorer? never been an issue before and I used to be able to check old pages how long does it take to load
  14. I'm trying to check the 2nd page on the activities page but it never loads is this a common problem and is there a fix I'm referring to the page on the PC not the actual unit any help appreciated
  15. Ja it is but the price for boutique brand in the class of Santa cruise and niner Having said that it's stiff in the rear fairly light sort of in the Anthem range suffers little to zero bob trying to get them to get it out on the track The rear suspension is patented and I hear good things about this DW link feel slot like the Epic Spez It's got all the new bits rear through axle, tapered head tube wide BB 92, the rear triangle is a feat of engineering and looks stiff, this is where I feel the Anthem is lacking Also it has the latest RP23 shock I would say it's about 3 grand over fair price but then again it special The beauty though is instead of spending 40k I can get a new frame and transfer over the parts Am also looking at Spez but plenty of the parts are not interchangeable, and stock is a problem so what happens if you bust a frame and then it's also very pricey Anyway still in the looking phase
  16. Thanks for that Crow
  17. That bike as is was 40k the frame is 20k
  18. heres a pic of the bike I tested it was a bit of mix and match but mainly looking at the frame and building over my Anthem bits
  19. Well I took one for a test spin today, I am on a large Anthem and the medium was a great fit It seems to climb really well with just about zero bob still need to work out the rear shock as the new rp23 has a zero, one and two as opposed to the normal 1,2and 3 the stroke of the rear shock was quite a bit longer than my Anthem too The bike weighed 12.1 kg with a mix of xt and slx it seems to be able to be flicked around quite easily
  20. did a bit of reading and they seem quite good but they seem to be more in the mould of the niner jet etc which seem heavier more toward all mountain looking for something along the lines of the scott spark 29er, spez and maybe even the Rocky mountain 29er so looking at all options
  21. anyone got one of these? any views
  22. I am in the process having lost 5 kg so far over a 5 km route on the Mtb both through Tokai and up wapad have dropped at least a minute over that short distance Best though is I feel that slight bit fresher when you do hit the flats
  23. Had a nice easy ride took the MTb on the road mostly flat and a climb to get me home but really didn't push Feel fine so will have a few more of those rides and then hit the trails Anyway thanks for all the bits and pieces all sensible info
  24. That all sound s like good advice thx
  25. I have just finished a course of Antibiotics and want to know the way forward I feel fine no chest or head but still have a pathetic cough basically a tickle in my throat.
