I think you will be very happy with them as I said I'm not light and have been hammering them what i also like is that they are so neutral and suit any bike I'm not sure where Easton get their weights though because this set was about 85 grams heavier than listed and I checked the EA90 and they were also well over listed weight at 1700g but they are the business enjoy
  2. It doesnt matter whether one leg is stronger than the other, the solution is to get an even output I went for a BG fit setup and you could hear on the spinner how uneven my output was the solution was to set my cleats up to give a smooth even output( one is setback further ) and it really has worked, no more back pain on the one side and my hips have stayed aligned( Chiro) it really has made a difference to me often the output is due to one leg being slightly longer and then hips go out of alignment and the problems just multiplies all the way up and down Not saying thats it but it is quite common to get uneven output.

Did my first ride and the wheels were great I weigh 100kg so not light, I hit all the single tracks up and down and the wheels were stiff and tracked nicely I run my tyre pressure quite low 23psi in front on a Saguaro 2.2 and 25 psi at the back with a spez fast trak LK no sign of leakage and any burping on the tyres the weight for the front wheel is 1816 with 80 ml stans which is a bit extra and the back is 2170 with the fast trak and 60 ml stans I could run a fast trak on the front but Tokai is quite sandy at the moment so opt for a more volume less pressure grip on the front. Even now the rear has a bit of washout but at least its predictable the wheels set is about 160 - 300 grams lighter than the std Giant wheels depending on the tyre choice overall very happy especially that its a full UST rim

Just fitted my new wheels weight was 1824g which was a bit heavier than advertised some of the grams would be in the valves They are full UST wheels so it was tyres on stains in and bang goes the bead all seated no problem I'll do my first ride in Tokai in the morning and let fellow hubbers know how it goes These wheels have very neutral branding so will suit just about any bike Lata
  5. I hope it goes well I had a shocker fixing wheels 10 mins before the start I think i used the velo brand so that could be it but i think i used 4 tubes to get 2 to work and 1 that I lent a mate on a ride misfired and his wife had to fetch him .. let us know how it goes
  6. I want to build a single speed road bike is it as simple as it sounds .. I want to know what happens with the back wheel do you need a special hub and free body and also gearing and chain tension. The other question would be about the the crank and sprocket again gearing I'm thinking around 40-42 as with my mountain bike I have one hill that I have to climb on my rides home-silvermine hill in Noordhoek Capetown- every ride Any help would be good gonna use my trel slr frame lekker lekker..
  7. dont do it i tried that and had a blow out at the start of race( still riding to the start) , they dont seem to handle pressure very well, I asked around and most people seemed to think it wasnt worth the the risk Its sounds like they are suseptible to heat and the other elements I should have clocked while installing them I had problems with the valve etc my sense is its not worth but it is a cheap way to shed grams
  8. try something different i got a new BH RC1 my size 57 with Ultegra and ritchey protocol wheels is sitting at 7.6 KG and can easily be dropped this bike is made for pure handling ( try chappies ) and really climbs well Bought the frame from complete cyclist for R13 000 its a real beauty did the Burger on it and was really comfortable the upgrade is the G5 but is almost double the price send me your email and I'll send a pic or two Did look at the GIANT but they are in between models at the moment but very similar with that rear wheel cut out on the down tube BH nice big section around BB can be BB30 or normal the BH looks more beefy around the bottom end super looking bike in B&W
  9. looks like I may have few takers thx
  10. I get into Windhoek around the 1 Feb so it can before or a little after but not to much after are there people that do this
  11. Hi Trying to get my bakkie up to Windhoek from Cape town have googled but cant find anything Anybody have any ideas my plan is pack all my cycling gear in and get it sent up around 30 Jan Are there companies or peole that do this
  12. what about the difference between firecrest and the normal zipp clincher I know the weights are quite different but must admit would would have liked the full carbon clincher as in the firecrest still worth it
  13. they dont always get sidewall cuts but can burp quite easily I gave a guy a lift home after his stans burped out at the Mast Tokai on his way down in the transition from tar to gravel poor bugger had to walk the whole way down the suseptible tyres are the schwalbe and the crossmarks that are not even tubeless ready as I said its usually the bead that plays up
  14. wow what have I started that is quite pricey I was also looking at Corima Aero+ but maybe in the long run a set of Zipps is a Good "investment" if you can call it that and I'll be thinking should have ..
  15. what can one expect to pay for a new set and are there any hubbers looking to flog off to serious buyer I use Ritchey protocols which I thought were great until a bike shop lent me a set of Zipps for a week absolutely unbelievable on my new BH RC 1 to be fair I dont care what anyone says about ritchey although quite a mission to get properly serviced 3 bike shops couldnt get it right .. Thanks Clarkie But Zipps wow ..
  16. the eastons are quite pricey and as somebody said to me when I was looking if you break a spoke they can be pricey and stock shortages as I suppose with the XT wheels As opposed to getting some Stans ZTR whatevers but the the spokes DT swiss are readily available eg if You are at a stage race and need a repair in the evening when you put all the pro's and cons lighter doesnt always rate that high thats why the Stans are a good buy I think easton are around 7-8 grand Stans with ZTR hubs light and around 4.5-5 grand easily by the way what do those XT wheels weigh
  17. you get tubeless ready and you get TUBELESS ready I use the fastraks LK from specialized this probably sound s ridiculous but the sidewalls can seep Stans but not lose any real pressure to save a few bucks and some hassle of going to the bike shop get a little kit from the bike shop which consists of a large syringe with a tube that screws onto the valve costs about R140 and then a bottle of stans I can usually tell when the stans is evaporated by giving it a shake but because I am a bit more precise I weigh my wheels about once a month ( sounds crazy but works a charm ) cant tell you how many people race or go on some extreme ride get a flat only to find the stans has dried up on my 29er wheel i usually put 2-3 cups of the stans measure thats about 60 ml i think ( i know the weight of that ) so if I weigh my wheels and they are 50 grams lighter I know there is less than ...all stans in the wheel even if I can hear a bit sloshing around in the wheel also make sure you have a few bombs with you as a bike pump is useless with Tubeless if you lose a seal
  18. Has anyone tried the BH RC1 road bike
  19. This can all be done on the move these setups climb with little or no bob depending on your setting for the pro pedal The giant comes with the rp23 as opposed to to the trek which is rp2 although I probably prefer rp2 less to fiddle with The giant when setup is quite a racy position where I got the feeling on the trek that it was slightly more relaxed The best as mentioned when in doubt is to test ride Remember giant has great backup where trek been known to be lacking in that dept, not sure about Scott but it does look great but that spec doesn't do the comparison justice
  20. Must admit the Scott has a faster look but beware that triangle looks quite small for a bottle especially on a smaller frame. I have a large anthem with tubeless tyres and the STD rims etc a carbon bar kcnc post and the heavy alliante saddle and it is just 12 kg on a decent hanging scale Better rims will shave about 400grams and a saddle another 100 you could get the anthem to 11.5 kg quite easily It's a great climber and no bother on the twisty bits in Tokai Forrest along the same tt route used in the epic. But all those bikes are good but I think the giant is best value for money Loads of anthems in the epic and even for an average rider like me it's good fun Light enough to bunny hop the I am running on spez fastraks at less than 2 bar and I'm not the lightest At the end of the day you still got to peddle the dam thing but you won't be sorry on the giant
  21. how much and are they new 29er?
  22. I reckon you can use whatever combination you like but when it comes to races like the epic make sure you have a proven tyre like the geax saguaro whch is quite heavy at about 750g but tough as nails the weight saving isnt worth the long walk I have tried the crossmarks(620g) front and back which was fine then went onto Saguaro(nice high volume tyre) front and back also good and lastly is the fastrak (630g) which I like because they roll so nicely I weigh 100kg and able to run 1.7 bar upfront and 1.8-1.9 at the back tend to run a bit harder in the winter as I find the tracks are more hard pack so easier on the climbs
  23. Its in the 29er shootout article so it compares with all the others
  24. I think JB said he uses competition silver double butted 2.0- 1.8mm if not mistaken will check out all your other prompts got a hubber offering crossmax 29er for 5K which seems quite high for a propriety considering all the choice any comments on the crossmax 29er he says they are 1700g
