  1. Ah, so you are one of those...... Leaches. Sit snug in the bunch for the first half (or more) of the race and then miraculously appear towards the last bit and hammer the guys who were doing all the work in the beginning...... strategy, yes. Pro, no. Do your turn up front early on and then pop off into the bunch for your strategy follow through. Just saying. p.s. I hate wheelsuckers Pacelines are cool
  2. Well I will be on the front end with you. My goal is to beat my PB (which is 2:57 from E last year). I was gunning for a similar time of around 2:45 (my dad's PB too), so I hope the guys will be motivated to ride hard but not kill it. I have a weight disadvantage - me and my steed clock in just over a century in Kg's but I feel that I am ready for this one. Edit: typo
  3. sux dude! guess what I am doing tonight (where is that tube of black silicon)
  4. we went over the top of edinburgh at 20min30 last year and I did a 2:57 last year....... these times are guidelines and not cast in concrete.
  5. Check your split time calc in your race pack
  6. well there are road works on the N2 now too! Directing traffic into one lane on the Muizenberg turn at Hospital Bend

    Argus Sub 3 Kit

it is so moer expensive, I never bothered
  9. true - 40%
  10. Faniefiets, you are only allowed to complain if you ride a sub3 Argus this year Otherwise, Rule #5. Suck it up cupcake. A goodie bag is a bonus. These guys pay for their products to be in the bag - without them, we would get vol-kol / nadda / zip.
  11. look at northern hemisphere cycle shop's websites for that - they are moving into spring and summer range - so their winter gear will have heavily reduced prices
  12. I would say drive to the new stadium and park there (across the road is a parking lot). R50 bucks though I think. Cycle from there to the start - follow the masses. Then your car will be close for once you finish.

    Argus Race Check list!

All I can say is.......... GARMIN!
  15. LOL! that was meant to be a drool icon..... BUT, these guys are loosing the essence of a road bike - disc brakes are for MTB's
  16. Well, there is a stop-go just outside Worcester on the N1 on the tunnel side. A wait up to 30min. Was there last weekend but might have been cleared by now.
  17. Let me copy paste it here but I must say, I never thought of it that way before, but it makes sense especially with my weight of a tad short of a century I am heavy on tyres, especially back ones. It is common for a front tire to outlast a rear tire by as much as three to one. Rear tires have more weight on them, and also have to deal with drive forces. This disparity in tread life is exacerbated in the case cyclists who rely on their rear brake (you shouldn't! See my article on Braking and Turning.) Well-meaning cyclists, even some mechanics who don't know any better, sometimes try to deal with this by swapping tires, putting the less worn front tire on the back wheel, and moving the worn-but-usable rear tire to the front. The idea is to equalize the wear on the two tires, but this is a serious mistake, don't do it! The only time tire rotation is appropriate on a bicycle is when you are replacing the rear tire. If you feel like taking the trouble, and use the same type of tire front and rear, you should move the front tire to the rear wheel, and install the new tire in front. The reason for this is that the front tire is much more critical for safety than the rear, so you should have the more reliable tire on the front. If you have a blowout, if it is on the rear tire, you have a very good chance of bringing the bike to a controlled stop. If your front tire blows, you can lose steering control, and a crash is a real possibility.
  18. I fitted new tyres two years ago, and dies - because of the wind - yeah, it's off topic a lil bit. If your tyres look dodge and you are nervous about them and you are really counting on the Argus to give you you best results ever, then change them. I have a set of race wheels and training wheels, so I inspect my tyres before and after every race. There are a few nicks and scratches, but none deep enough to do harm. If you are unsure, change them. CWC has some good specials going at the moment.
  19. Cool man! I have been able to get her to come with for most races this past season (unless she is really not interested) but now that a cycling buddy has a girlfriend that enjoys supporting him at race, they see us off and then go for coffee and chat Edit: typo
