  1. Bad luck, Nix - glad you're ok, though. Good luck with the insurance...
  2. Hi Admin, maybe its a good idea to have a polls-only section?
  3. Yep, its all about EVEN spoke tension over the entire wheel. The impact of the difference in tension is multiplied by speed and weight and focused on the head of the spoke. A bit like bending a piece of wire until it breaks.
  4. Regular breaking of spokes points to incorrectly built wheels, not necessarily bad wheel quality. We've done a loaded tour on a tandem with Mavic/DT/Shimano wheels with 32 spokes front and rear and shed spokes at an alarming rate. Had the wheels re-built while on tour (in Italy) and had no problems with the wheels after that. Check the other thread on wheel builders... Cheers EB
  5. Thanks for the feedback. I guess my backside will have to endure some pain in the name of beauty...
  6. You got me, Titus. It is rather simple if you know how to use a philips screwdriver and have motory function in your hands. Just wanted to push some business the LBS way... Racman, glad you came right, hope you enjoy the Campag experience from here onwards EB
  7. I've read a story once of 'ol Ernesto [Colnago] equipping the bikes of the Mapei squad with straightblades instead of rockshocks for the Paris Roubaix, taking a 1-2 in the process ('98, I think). Dunno how much that counts for anything, since the spread has been pretty much 50/50 after that... Pick your poison then drink it, I guess
  8. Do you have the all-carbon (no cover over the shell) version? How's the "lip" at the back? It's received some bad press overseas from some users, making me slightly nervous...
  9. Maybe a new thread on this, Slowjoe?
  10. Dude, keep us posted, I think there's some tech-wizz answer for this since it is one of the new torque-fit setups...
  11. Bora's not considered at all? Guess they're a bit heavier, right? But oh so desirable...
  12. Hi all, I'm looking at buying a Selle San Marco Aspide to replace my current Selle Italia SLR. The primary reason for the change is the scuffing on the edges of the seat which started to appear after about 9 months of use. A number of logical ways to avoid scuffing: 1) Ride less 2) Ride without a saddle (now there's a thought ) 3) Eliminate anything that can show scuff marks (leather, lorica, etc). Does anyone have experience with using this saddle (the full carbon version)?
  13. Hi Racman, I find Campag to be pretty bullet-proof once set up. It takes a bit of skill to get it right, though, but following the manuals should see you through... Good luck!
  14. Given BigH's comments, let me add that you might get better response by going for a deeper rim mated to your existing hub. You'll need new spokes since the spoke length will be shorter (I'm not sure what the word on the streets is on gauge, check with the builder?). Speaking of which: get the best builder you can find (check post elsewhere) and be prepared to pay the premium. EdoardoBianchi2007-03-18 13:14:08
  15. Can't offer specifics on frames/prices/etc, BUT: I would recommend spending as much as possible on a frame/fork/wheel combo and upgrade as it becomes possible. Frames [generally] outlasts components and is the first impression anyone gets of your bike... [PS: My username might suggest I am biased...]
