  1. Depends on what you want. At the Record/DA levels I don't think there is much to choose between either. It is about what you like best and what you think looks best on the bike. For me it'll always be Campag. Regardless of weight. Regardless of cost. But that's just me.
  2. Nope, but I am shocked at the prices of the imported offerings - guess I've not been shopping in a while... I agree though, nice feature
  3. *Says to himself* "I live in Africa, I have no expectation of service" I'll admit: I felt better after typing up the mail, though.
  4. I prefer the 928 SL' date=' but that's about twice your [unrevised ] budget - goes for about R28k Popeye & Kritz are on C2C's, right? They look fantastic, but I'm not sure I like the angles - seem a bit, er, relaxed. Any comments, guys? I spent a happy time at the shop over the weekend drooling over the 928SL with Record and Hyperions - At R90k I have some saving and dreaming to do...
  5. I've mailed Mr Time in France, am waiting for a reply...
  6. Did they actually build the coke stand at the top as I asked last time I was there? I'll probably work in a couple of single-big-climb-days going out for max 2.5 hrs using the route outlines you guys have given - thanks! Kaapsche Hoop is something else, I've forgotten about it...will see if I can make a turn that way (was planning on staying Sabie/Graskop, but it is such a nice settlement, I'm sure Mrs EB will be able to keep herself busy while waiting for me).
  7. Mrs EB is not a cyclist (but understands ) Oh, short in context...some of the guys I've spoken to normally plan 165km rides when they're in the Lowveld. I think I'm ruling that out - (Mrs EB's understanding only goes so far! I guess I'm afraid that going there and doing a couple of rides will be a wasted effort and of no use during winter.
  8. I need some help here... Since it'll be a mortal sin to let the Easter holidays go by without taking leave, I've convinced Mrs EB that we need a week[end] in the Lowveld. I'll be taking the road bike along, but how do I do the training camp thing. I am rather far off form at the moment and need to build a sustainable power base. Do I a) Do long rides incorporating some hills (150+ kms) b) Do only shorter rides and include one or two climbs only (120kms max) c) Only take the bike along for bragging rights at Pilgrims? What do you think?
  9. No! I'm re-reading mine now...
  10. I've never used SP (didn't realise they do road?) What are they like ito retention in sprinting, float, etc? Although I'd be hard pressed to spend another 1k+ on new pedals...
  11. My guess is the "just not work" or not work properly option, since the chain is wider on 9s. I don't think it is as extreme as getting jammed between cogs, but there will be some rub at the very least, affecting shifting and wear on all interfacing components. Take a look at the Shimano website for compatibility pointers (although I guess they have to make you believe it will not work because they have profits and legal issues to be concerned about...
  12. Latest on this: LBS indicates it is normal and I have to live with it. Having talked to others about the best pedal, it seems like Time's are the ones to have, so I'm just have to put up with the noise.
  13. Yes, and all persons having partipated in 2008 will be executed in public (Cape Parade, nogal) for being "unpatriotic". All travel costs to get to your execution will be borne by yourdself/family. Life insurance will also not pay out if...
  14. Muddy, my point exactly. Well-made equipment (that is inappropriately expensive) do not develop play on its bearings in two weeks time. Unfortunately it is definitely on the axle: taking the pedal body in my hand, stabilising the crank and moving the pedal creates movement that reminds of badly adjusted bearing/cone setups on wheels of years gone by. How does Look compare with Time from a quality/efficiency point of view?
  15. I'm not worried about the pedals breaking (they're bullet proof IMO), but the clatter when there's no weight on the pedal is really annoying me. I will be making a serious fuss over the weekend at the shop if anyone wants to come over 'n watch...
  16. *Whispers behind hand, incredulous* "He's got 2k to spend on his bike!" 1) A weighless subscription...Your bike will love you for it. 2) New carbon soled shoes 3) Save the cash until you can buy uber-wheels. Makes a massive difference
  17. Just spend a small fortune replacing my old Time Impact pedal because they had play on the axle bearings that cannot be fixed ("Common problem with T Impact pedals" ala LBS dude). Two f%^#@^ weeks later and the new ones have the same problem. I'm taking it back tomorrow and f@rting in their shop if they don't replace it F.O.C... Anyone else have this issue with the new RXS (Carbon) models? Mine are post-recall (gold dot on body)
  18. Hi Charvel, only picked this up now: Congrats on your purchase, hope you have many dirty miles on 'er! Wow, I'm amazed at the enthusiastic response from the rest of the guys trying to set you up for a 1st ride...
  19. Will look fantastic with my neon green shirt...
  20. *Clarkson voice* ...You get the car' date=' I'll navigate [initially']
  21. [Dr Evil laugh] One of the worst climbs I could find pics for...Passo della Stelvio in Northern Italy close to Bormio. It is regularly featured in the Giro (the real one ) Certainly looks imposing...
  22. I guess they've decided to write off the UK market then
  23. Careful, Kritz - I can hear the thunder rolling...
