  1. As a Roam V1 user, I cant really recommend it. Got mine 2 months before the massive price drop, which hurt some what. Its a relatively dumb unit and falls short on some aspects. I've had instances where I've charged it over night, start a ride with 100% power with it only to die 20min later. Intermittently of course, so hard to prove a warranty claim. It also doesnt connect with Discovery Vitality, so you have to download the .FIT file from Strava, use fitfiletools to change the device, then upload to Garmins site which syncs with Discovery. A pain, but a necessity if you have Vitality. The Edge 530 is a solid unit, it is better than the Wahoo V1 or V2. The only thing the Roams have going for them is the large, non-reflective display that has good viewing angles with the ability to zoom in on the fly
  2. Enduro, no, won't be suitable in my opinion. Some people ride hardtails in enduro events, but for really you'd want something with a longer travel, at least 140mm IMO. Look at something like the Titan Skyrim LT, but this is way out of your budget, they start at around R25k. What about financing? Some outlets offer finance options over 12 - 48 months? If you go this route, just make sure you can afford it and what the total amount is you'll pay back.
  3. Holy **** thats a flippen good deal. R14k for a GX hardtail with a Rockshox Reba and Sunringle Duroc 30 wheelset.
  4. So an entry level dual sus starts at R16999.99 like the Titan Cypher Sport RS or 120, when on sale. You can generally upgrade this to a 12spd drivetrain for R3000 - R4000. I think they're at R28999.99 now at all your big bike shops. Current cheapest option is the Silverback Stratos AL Elite MS from Cycle Lab, they have on promo for R24999.99 if you want something decent to get into. Decent Suntour suspension and even has UD dropouts so if you're really feeling adventurous, you can upgrade to a Sram Transmission drivetrain, but more importantly, hangers will be widely available at all most all bike stores. Decently spec'd bike and has 11spd Microshift which is actually quite decent, of course not comparable to a 12spd Deore or Sram SX, but it'll get the job done. Your cheapies that you'll find new for sub R15k will be your steel Raleighs, Totems, etc from your big box stores like Game and Makro. I can not recommend more to not buy this. It will put you off cycling for possibly your entire life. You will have a crappy time from the get go, and when you have problems, nobody in those stores will help you, because they dont know how to help you. Perhaps get a decent hardtail. Look at something with a 10spd Deore, like a Stride Deluxe. Or, if you're willing to spend R10k, look at the Marvel Prime that Cycle Lab currently has on promo. It has a Sram SX drivetrain with a Suntour air fork. I think the next closest bike with similar spec is at R18k. Plus you got the protection of dealing with a cycling specific store that has knowledgeable staff and will support and look after you. This of course goes for all cycling specific outlets, they're all super friendly and always willing to help.
  5. That error is for the magnet. Its likely just out of position. Check if it lines up with the sensor, if not then realign
  6. In CCS defense, I've received possibly the best service compared to all agents in SA. If they dont have stock of the replacement, you get the next 1 up. Their turn around time has also been phenomenal, generally 24 hours
  7. CapeGroSports are the only official Vision agent in SA. Best to contact Vision directly, they know of the challenges in SA with the local agent and will likely sell to you directly. I had to do that after local agent wouldn't take my calls, respond to my emails or anything while I was looking for a replacement axle.
  8. I was just one of the lucky ones to get punctured 🤣 nevertheless a big thanks for you and the team, and yes, didn't see any gravel on the route so must have been one of the laaities from the night before.
  9. Got a few suggestions : 1. Now I know this may be a big ask, but would it be possible, at least within the Durbanville suburb streets, to have a street sweeper go through before the race? Lots of smashed glass in the road, I was unfortunate to puncture 3 times before I got out of Durbanville, specifically once on Koeberg Rd just past the sports grounds and then twice in Pretoria Way. 2. Some shade at the finish line. Most riders dont ride back to the racecourse immediately and want to cool down for 5 or 10 minutes. Fortunately it wasnt a hot day but previous years had been scorching. 3. Some bike stands at the racecourse would be nice. Tons of bikes laying around on the ground made it a tad of a schlep to move through. Otherwise, was a fantastic event, had tons of fun and will be there next year.
  10. Just a side note here. The courier truck was hijacked in Milnerton
  11. Another good option is the Silverback Spyke 26"
  12. Cycle Labs festive sale also launched today. https://view.publitas.com/the-pro-shop/festive-promo-2023-clb/page/1 Some proper deals there. R30k for a Merida One Twenty RC XT. R17k for a Titan Cypher 120 Sport. R20k with a NX upgrade kit R13k for Silverback Stride Expert
  13. Got myself the Red-E Aura open air earphones for my solo rides. Sound quality is pretty good. Cant compete against something in ear but at least I can hear my surrounds while listening to music and not having to force those who I pass or pass me to hear my music either.
  14. Much appreciated. I will chat with the team, must have been a mistake. I can assure you that Cycle Lab will in fact transfer your bike between stores, for a fee of course to cover labour, packaging and transport.
  15. Can you recall who you spoke to?
  16. And this is exactly the reason why I suffered so much up Adderley, well not only that, mainly because I'm unfit, but I don't like to talk about that, nevertheless, would like to see that 'action' shot.
  17. Something to note that a lot of people dont know. Helmets expire, generally 3 - 5 years from production date. Im not 100% certain of the chemistry behind it but your chances of injury increase the older the helmet it due to age of the material. Also something to bare in mind, if you drop your helmet, the point at which hit the ground becomes compromised and weakens the helmet quite substantially. Another point, cost of a helmet shouldn't determine level of protection. Sure, some more expensive helmets have additional technologies such as MIPs. For instance a Scott Supra helmet, priced between R500 - R1000 depending where you shop, is great bang for buck but will also do a fantastic job protecting your noggin. Now im not saying go to Game and buy a Totem / Raleigh helmet for R100, obviously dont, but sticking to known brands will keep you safe.
  18. Unfortunately not. OP's warranty expired in 2021 with Silverback. Im not sure what what the legalities are, but I think OP might have a leg to stand on with the store he bought it from as OP was given the impression that it had a life time warranty. That would be a difficult case to prove though as OP would need to give evidence that the store said it came with a lifetime warranty.
  19. Silverbacks warranty if purchased before 1 January 2023 is 3 years on carbon frames and dual suspension bikes. Alloy hardtail has life time. Bought after 1 January 2023, carbon frames and alloy dual sus have a 2 year warranty. Alloy hardtail still has life time. Silverbacks warranty is strictly from date of purchase and does not restart if a frame or part has been replaced.
  20. Gonna have to use fitfiletools.com. Download the original from Strava, upload to fitfiletools, change the device to a Garmin and upload to Garmin connect. Its a Schlep but works. Currently using an Elemnt Roam What irks me with Discovery though is that their method to link apps has been offline for the last 2 months, so I haven't been able to link my new smartwatch. Discovery just says they're aware of the problem and hasn't done anything in my opinion to solve it
  21. https://bikehub.co.za/news/complete-the-coolheat-cycle-survey-and-win/
  22. Keytek are the current agents for Abus. I believe they do have a spare parts shipment they're working on
  23. On my way to N1 City this morning, I all most hit a cyclist who decided to run a red light while there was traffic on Old Oak road crossing Frans Conradie. Had it the other day as well, cycling home, turning right onto Cecil Morgan and here comes an oak blasting through the red light on his MTB, all most taking me out. In the last year while I've been commuting, I've had more close calls with other cyclists than with cars which is insane.
  24. In store and online. As long as the price is from a South African store and they have it in stock, Cycle Lab will price match
