  2. Thanks for those that posted contributions on this thread, very enjoyable reading comments based on first hand knowledge/experience. As an armchair supporter with no direct links to anyone riding I found it quite difficult at times to find updated info. The official race twitter feed seemed intermittent which left my main source of info to be the well written daily reports. However that wasn't really enough.. Now hearing that more regular info was being shared via WhatsApp groups explains things I guess. However how was one meant to become part of the groups? If the organisers are keen to expose the event to a broader audience then perhaps they should look at channels more public than WhatsApp.
  3. So I agree 100% with abiding by the rules of the event. However unfortunately there seems a general concept nowadays in SA that rules are for others... seen anyone drive through a red traffic light lately? It might be time for e-bikes to be allowed but with obvious rules around category placements etc. How does allowing someone in the later groups to gain assistance from using an e-bike differ from people pushing their partners up the hills? It's certainly less dangerous and annoying for fellow cyclists. The sense of accomplishment of finishing the event under your own steam would be just as eroded but if that's what you're ok with then so be it. I do wonder however if the organisers are concerned with the potential speed differential that e-bikes in the later bunches could cause, definitely a potential safety risk on the hills.
  4. Naah, I got blown out the back of the bunch just before the Black Marlin/Millers.Dunno if I was still not recovered from being sick or whether I was just having an off day. I basically just packed it in and grovelled my way to the finish trying to keep my HR from spiking too high. Tough day out, serious respect for the unfit backmarkers on a day like today! 5. Cool clips. Looking at the spacing of the cones is there any chance they're covering cat-eyes? Crazy idea if that's the case. We must've been riding pretty near to each other, I was on the left hand side in a similar position to you - black Felt, pink Sea Rescue top. End of blue route crash I was far left just ahead of it I think.
  6. Racetec app? I've just installed it and like online, results aren't available. What made you think they were available on the app? Gotta admit I was surprised not to get an SMS with a provisional result, isn't that normal? (Haven't ridden Argus since 2007..)
  7. Don't know if it was the same crash, but when I went through a bit behind 1F there was lots of medical activity and a guy sitting on the side with what looked like a collarbone injury, judging by the way he was holding his arm.
  8. That's terrible news. Condolences to his family.
  9. Doesn't sound good, wonder if it's possible they hadn't started CPR when I saw him ☹️ Must be the same guy.
  10. I went through just off the back of 1F and saw a guy down on the right-hand side. On a positive note, the medics had him in a recovery position on his side. If they were trying to revive him he'd have been on his back. So hopefully he's ok.
  11. ... there's going to be weather and it'll be variable depending on where you are & what time of day it is. I'm 100% confident in my prediction.
  12. 25C was my understanding. Looks like there's a bit of competition between a few of the stalls around Gatorskins pricing, which is great.
  13. Mates have found some specials on Conti Gatorskins. R880 for 2 including 3 tubes.
  14. I find yr.no to be great for rain prediction but windguru to be more accurate for wind.Having said that, Cape town has so many different localised weather patterns that it might be linked to where the sites are focusing their prediction on. Sent from my Moto G (5S) using Tapatalk
  15. Exactly, this is Cape Town after all. Windguru has already decreased the wind prediction in Muizenberg by 10km/hr since yesterday...now it's a much more manageable 45km/hr ????️
  16. I was wondering about suggesting WhatsApp location sharing, but wasn't sure if it updated your location or merely displayed the location that you were at when you shared. Location sharing isn't an issue for me, my dog refuses to clean my bikes so I've removed her cellphone privileges [emoji39]
  17. Real-time tracking is tricky as cell signal isn't great on sections of the route on the southern peninsula. Not sure if nowadays they're exposing when cyclists go over the various timing mats out on the course, which would allow for a similar progress update as what you've mentioned for 94.7.
  18. You can ride through the waterfront, keeps you off the serious roads. It's a well used route by cyclists. http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=Cape%20Town%20Stadium&daddr=Beach%20Rd%20to%3A281%20Beach%20Rd%20to%3A3%20Walter%20Sisulu%20Ave&geocode=FWqn-v0ddekYASkxbvQrT2fMHTE5dFCosj3Npw%3D%3D%3BFcWr-v0dhwMZAQ%3D%3D%3BFfqd-v0dUAgZAQ%3D%3D%3BFft9-v0d4B4ZAQ%3D%3D&dirflg=d
  19. If your Hotel is in town, then it's a short Uber to Greenpoint to collect your bike and a gentle ride back.

  22. Thanks, but when I was last at the store I noticed that there was a distinct sizing difference between various tops.
  23. Do you have an outlet in Cape Town that doesn't require me to apply for a visa, fill up with petrol & buy roadtrip snacks? ... like maybe closer to the southern suburbs/deep south
  24. Use a paper hole punch, like for filing. Works 100% Then cable tie it to the front of your handlebars.
