  1. I've got one for you, I'm in CT in the south. No payment necessary, just pay it forward.
  2. Did you come right? If so I'd be keen to know where/how.I'm looking for the 12mm TA to QR adapter's..
  3. Post on the salvage thread, someone might have something lying around for you. https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/152006-the-salvage-thread/page-40
  4. It's not a 4 seasons, but then we're in SA.. I'm 1.85m so some of the ultralight tents are a little cramped, but this one works very well, especially at only 1.7kg. https://www.naturehike.co.za/collections/tents/products/cloud-up-2-ultralight-2-person-tent-upgrade
  5. I'd say the Diverge is more a Fortuner...common and less practical than a Hilux...but it climbs pavements well ;-)
  6. I was looking for a steel frame gravel touring bike & Benky just happened to be unloading some of the Sequoia's that he'd been using for his KZN tours company & the price was certainly right! Besides price, I wanted a bike that I don't have to be precious about when touring. Carbon definitely doesn't fit that requirement (my opinion). Reviews seemed to suggest aluminium gives a much harsher ride than steel. To me the Diverge is more of a Specialized road racing gravel bike to be seen on....whereas the Sequoia has old school classic style. If I was looking for a winter road bike to do some gravel races on, then sure something like the Diverge might've got a look in.
  7. I really do need to write that trip report.. My fork has water bottle cage mounts, so I manufactured some plastic brackets using sewer piping (unused..) & bolted those on. I then purchased lightweight drybags and taped them up to a more long & thin profile. Bags were then attached to the brackets using webbing straps I got made. I taped the forks where the straps could run just in case. Think it cost me about R550 for the complete setup (both bags) - drybags were R200 each, being the majority of the cost. Rather surprisingly (I'm not the most gifted DIYer) they held up really well. 4 days of corrugations did cause one small hole to be worn through the one bag, but that was caused by me not checking the straps were tight enough to prevent chafe on the one day.
  8. Make sure to get a clutch derailleur if possible. Actually I suppose all 11sp mtb rear derailleurs are now clutch... Even ensuring you're in the big chainring for rocky descents isn't enough to stop hectic chainslap on a rigid setup.
  9. The plan backfired as I physically had no spare space for red wine! However in mitigation I did an extra 30km "shopping trip" at the end of day 3 to resolve the issue. Sorry for the stupid question, but isn't your rear derailleur 10sp? Will those 11sp bar end shifters still work? I'm assuming they're indexed? Out of interest, I was running an 11sp crankset on a 10sp setup on my old road bike. Needed to replace the old chainrings and buying a new 11sp crankset was hardly more expensive & gave upgrade options if required.
  10. I was meaning to do a ride report but just haven't got around to it. Will try make the effort. In summary: cold, windy, heavily corrugated, spectacular, scenic, idyllic, fun, must do.
  11. Advantage of riding a L frame is I can still fit 2 water bottles in the triangle even with a frame bag.
  12. Campsites, hence the home-made fork bags carrying a tent & sleeping bag. I normally take shelter under my credit card, much easier! Got persuaded by the friends I rode with that you have to camp in the Cederberg..
  13. Steel frame Specialized Sequoia fully loaded doing the Cederberg circuit. (Edit: no idea why the image quality is so poor)
  14. Did she seem excited by the idea? ????
  15. Was thinking exactly the same thing, a little bit of thieving bastard squashed against the wall would've been a great outcome.Interesting to see that the driver looks like a woman.
  16. It's quite cool that you're repurposing what could've been part of someone else's house etc. Like bringing history back to life.
  17. Great thread, I've really enjoyed following your adventures. Out of interest, I'm assuming you're collecting rocks on private property, sort of 2nd hand rocks? Are you allowed to "harvest" rocks from public land? Here in CT trying to grab even the odd stray rock off Boyes drive mountainside is a big no-no.
  18. Looking at Johan's pics (thanks Johan!) there seem to be very few gravel bikes. Is the route a bit rough/sandy for them or are MTBs favoured due to suspension helping to reduce fatigue? I know after 100km on my gravel bike I'm pretty fatigued if the route is rough. Couldn't even imagine after 1000km!
  19. Sorted:
  20. Thanks for the prompt response. Urgh, I was really hoping Axis hubs were just rebranded/parallel brand DT Swiss hubs.
  21. Great initiative & perfectly timed! I've got a pair of R470db road disc wheels with Axis hubs currently running thru axles. Is it possible to convert them to QR? Just bought a 2016 Cannondale Synapse disc & would like to use the DT Swiss wheels but the frame is QR... Thanks!
  22. Not sure if this was on Sat or Sunday morning but another cyclist was mugged on Steenberg rd near Pollsmoor. I also heard a report of an attempted mugging on Wednesday in the same area, luckily the woman involved managed to avoid the guy who tried to grab her bike.
  23. I'm starting to realise that doing the CTCT on a BMX was actually just playing to your strengths ????
