  3. Makolong Mountain Bike Series No1 - Tshwanehttp://www.entrytime.com/media/images/spacer.gifDue to the withdrawal of the main sponsor of the Makolong MTB Series we sadly have to cancel the Makolong Mountain Bike races in Tshwane which was scheduled for 27 September, 4 October and 22 November 2008 Regards Race Organiser Christo van der Linde
  4. Joss is correct, the UCI rules say NO. THerefore if you ride as a fun rider you will be CHEATING. Now CHEATING is something that seems to be wrong (from the many postings on the hub), but considering the replies on this thread, the jury is still out on this infraction. Doping is also CHEATING and so is riding licenced when you have a lifetime ban, but these are a little mores serious than starting as a fun rider (although CSA may disagree). If you a licenced rider and want to ride for fun, rather go and train somewhere else, and save the entry fee. (PS you agreed to this when you applied for your licence, so don't mope about it)
  5. Aah, Gordon's Bay. Great place. Was there for a year............
  6. thanx PB. You are a superhero.
  7. now who is responsible for building such nasty ruts? Lets sue them.
  8. and this is why I ride my bicycle, and not race my bicycle. RIDE- RACE starts and finishes with the same letters, but are totally diferent activities.
  9. That's ridiculous! MTB rules can be 2 lines: 1. Have fun. 2. Don't get killed. What is interesting about the 45 pages of MTB rules is that it deals with all the disciplines of MTB, and most of it is about what the ORGANISER and OFFICIALS have to do and how the route should be marked (new concept in RSA) and how the start and finish shopuld be laid out ext ext. Maybe 3 pages in total about how the riders should behave, which normally comes down to hogs rule 2 and "don't hurt the other childern".
  10. What is there outside of the Western Cape? there be dragons' date=' dwarfs, and ogres.[/quote'] we also have goblins, faeries (not fairies like CT) and trolls
  11. What is there outside of the Western Cape? there be dragons, dwarfs, and ogres.
  12. a fool and his money are soon parted.
  13. bump
  14. All my suspicions confirmed PPA is only for the Weatern Cape.
  15. in CT shortly is anything up to 3 months.
  16. Read them all at: http://www.uci.ch/english/about/rules.htm After many accusations of cheating ext, I just wondered how many people actually have bothered to read the rules they so quickly say have been broken.
  17. Perhaps it shows there's a disconnect between the UCI rules designed for pro-cycling and the reality of amateur racing. more likely between fun riding and amateur racing.
  18. A more worrying thing is there are so few people that have actually read the UCI rules about the sport. Most South Africans cheat (break the rules) without even realising it. Most RSA event organisers would do well to read the rules. Most people in development of cycling in RSA should realise that the rules clearly state that cycling is a TEAM sport and not an individual effort. ext ext ext Blah Blah Blah.
  19. An interesting tendency has occured in SOuth African sport. It seems that everyone (officials and participants) knows the rules, without even reading the rule book. Had an interesting experience on a tour which was "conducted according to UCI rules". First rule that was ignored was "stage races will be driven in team format" Second rule ignored was about the lay out of start and finish line lay out, after that it seemed that teh riders were treated as an optional extra by the race organisers. Do yourself a favour, download the UCI rules from the UCI website and read them. Then create a checklist of must common infringements by officials and race organisers. It can become a exciting game of rating races by how many UCI rules they blatently ignore, like the 100/200 rider rules and the team size rule. Great fun really.
  20. I agree with you about Andrew McClean, not like Ertjes Bez, who now does not cycle anymore.
  21. cedings (seedings) is for egotistical, insecure, competitive, (add your own adjective here) Jozi dwellers. Don't lower yourself to quantify what should be a quality experience. Image a bunch of priests (or hubbers) comparing how many souls they had saved (but leave the religion out of it OKAY?)
  22. Considering Canadians consider themselves the Kings of freeride and MTB in general, this is rather aggressive talk from a USA bike manufacturer. Something like we have Demi-God Lance, so na,na,na,na,na.
