  1. Shot for the feedback. He’ll be practising on the track on Friday - hopefully enough time to familiarise himself. He is riding the short course fortunately. He raced enduro(dirtbike) so hopefully will be ok on the tech but taking nothing for granted.
  2. Thanks - good to hear that no rain is forecast 👍🏻.
  3. Hi all, Somewhat related to the topic but a question regarding best tyre selection for Thaba Trails. My son is racing nationals there over the weekend we have never been there before so any advice is good. I believe there has been some rain which probably complicates things. But assuming its dried out by Sunday what works best there generally. I have no idea what type of terrain to expect. He rides a Trek Procaliber with Kovee Pro wheels. He weighs 48kgs soaking wet. Shot for the help!!
  4. I'm from PE so I got mine from Wayne Pheiffer Cycles.
  5. Howzit, For the full IM last year I did my training using the supplements that would be available on race day - Maurten gels and drink mix in my bottles. It wasn't cheap but I wasn't taking chances. Best advice is to use what you have used during training and not to try something new on race day.
  6. I'd argue that Oudtshoorn is fair to all. It's out of everybody's way.
  7. One and done for me. Each to their own but I don't see the benefit in entering year after year.
  8. Best of luck tomorrow, regardless of the conditions have a cracker day!
  9. Overcast and slight drizzle. No wind that I can feel at home at the moment. We’ll see what it’s like this afternoon for bike check-in. Fingers crossed the weather stays like this but you have got to play the cards you’re dealt at the end of the day.
  10. Yup!! Can't come soon enough. Tired of the training monotony. Like you, I'll be popping my cherry too.
  11. Cool, thought so - thanks. Was just hoping that there was an SA running forum with a classifieds section. Yup, not expecting much - better than nothing though as they’re just sitting in their box.
  12. Hi all, perhaps a dumb question but is there a market for 2nd hand running shoes? I'm not talking about shoes with 100kms on them but fairly new shoes. I'm stuck with a pair of Brooks Ghost 14's with 30kms on them and I'd like to shift them. Cheers and thanks
  13. Perhaps they do, but in my view the perception they have created is very different. They have yet to respond to a single email enquiry that I have sent, despite them requesting that we email them directly with our concerns. Be that as it may, it is what it is. I'll stop my ranting as no amount of moaning from me will change a thing.
  14. I had sympathy for the organisers until they opened August 2021 entries without having a contingency plan for Jan 2021 entrants. My team entered for Aug 2020 in December of 2019 - not too sure that was very balsy? There has been radio silence from the organisers - no responses to emails, limited responses to requests on social media. I can assure you that I would have felt a little better had they said " we are working on things and will release a statement later", more often than they did. Their standard reply to any question is "it will go ahead". This is evasive and it does nothing to assist in allaying the concerns of the Jan 2021 entrants.
  15. Absolutely driven by finances. Team Ecobound is determined, by shear force of will, to have the Jan 2021 event go ahead regardless of whatever shape or form it is in and irrespective of what value it offers the riders. If the majority of teams are called at CP5 what does Team Ecobound care? Its no loss to them financially. If the heat causes issues for riders what does Team Ecobound care? They've still got their cash. If 80% of the Jan 2021 entrants forfeit their entries what does Team Ecobound care? You get my point..
  16. Our team is entered for the Jan 2021 event. I have received ZERO responses to my requests for clarity on the status of Jan 2021 entrants, from the organisers. Whilst Ecobound may have done decent work in the past, in my opinion, they have dropped the ball on this occasion. There is very little pro-active communication from them. They do not respond to emails. Surely, in a time of "crisis" more communication is required? You manage a "crisis", in part, by controlling the narrative( I sound like the ANC) and at this point Team Ecobound is conspicuous by their absence. The biggest issue for me is their decision to open August 2021 entries without making any contingency plans for Jan 2021 entrants. It is mercenary and without doubt self-serving - the interests of those us who are entered for Jan 2021 have simply being dismissed/ignored. Granted, these are extraordinary times but how they have handled matters to this point leaves me in no doubt as to where their allegiances lie. Jan 2021 entrants are simply collateral damage - whether we enter ever again is irrelevant to them as their Aug 2021 entries are already sorted. Rant over.
  17. Loving my 2020 Cypher Elite - apart from a shock issue (sorted under warranty) and the ubiquitous XT clutch issue (sorted now) - the bike has performed faultlessly for my needs. The value for money with Titan is hard to beat. I also love the reactions I get on the trails when people see how well specced(?) the bike is.
  18. I have the Cypher Elite. I can't compare it to the Spark 930 unfortunately. What I can say is that I am very happy with the bike. Great specs, great warranty and great service from Titan. The build quality is great too. Sorry, not a very technical review at all. I'm sure you'll get a far better idea once you manage a test ride. Suffice it to say, I have no regrets with my purchase.
  19. Awesome, thanks for advice. I’m partial to the drop bars myself.
  20. Good point.
  21. I’m clearly in for a couple of painful lessons .
  22. Thanks for info! Cool video .
