  1. At your pricepoint rate the bike on 2 things. Fork and Wheelset. The rest is irrelevant.........mostly......
  2. actually they do come with pedals.....cheap plastic toe clip pedals and reflecters on the wheels too .......its a US law thing......hahahaha.....my lbs has boxes of the stuff left over......
  3. 100%, best value and only a few grams off XT. Bulletproof and serviceable.
  4. Don't we all walk that fine line......?
  5. Yoh, that Venge is a beauty.........love the image in front of the Graffiti wall
  6. Have been to the new West Rand Cycles since they converted to a Spez Concept Store? very very nice.....
  7. Nice, time to change this into a Spez lovers thread..... It's Rouxtjies fault, he started this.....
  8. I would dude, you know I would. If only you were homeless........
  9. I have a big dilemma .........I ride a spez MTB and a Cannondale road bike....... I love the Spez and respect to Sinyard for the apology, now I need to decide if I need to give the Cannondale Super Six to some homeless guy as my symbol of objection to GoLefty's lack of forgiveness towards spez........
  10. ummmm no, not even close. So lets sit back and watch every business decision get made via a crowd sourced social media frenzy? I think not. Consumer opinion does have an impact on corporate operations but does not dictate them. Anyway, I am done with this thread and will enjoy a ride on my "Big Bully Corporate" Spez this afternoon and no its not for sale.
  11. What the hell do you know about 20 or 30 speed?? you're about 19 gears in over your head.....
  12. Who won the case? I would assume the original Hungry Jacks? This would make sense as using a "TM" for a significant period of time does afford some protection, however not always total protection that registering a TM does. I guess the moral of the story, If you want to use a TM check if its available and register it. It will save you pain in the future when the legal owner comes knocking on your door.
  13. Well it all depends if Specialized have registered the TM "EPIC" in South Africa in the same category as "The Cape Epic" which I doubt, so no problem. Vica Versa also stands, if Cape Epic had tried to register the TM in the US (In the same category as Specialized), it would of been rejected by the TM office there.
  14. This story isnt over yet. It will be very interesting to see how it all pans out. I must say, the Jack Daniels approach to a TM infringment was awesome. I dont like bulldozer tactics portrayed in the story (very short story) but I am sure we dont have all the facts yet. Maybe Spez are being a bully, maybe they approached the owner to find a solution and he gave them the middle finger, we dont know. I am sure they also looked at what the value is of the "bad PR" (is there really such a thing?) vs the value of the brand if they potentially lost it. Lets watch this space.
  15. Lets wait until someone infringes on a Cannondale TM and they try to defend it. I guess there will be a cheap Cannondale in the classifieds?
  16. I am not a lawyer but have have had some dealings with trademarks. 1. Trademarks get registered under very specific categories. I would assume that Spez registered the trademark in a cycling and related category. This would not effect "Roubaix" pizza joint in Canada or US for example. Trademarks are also registered by country, so if Roubaix is not registered by Spez in SA under the cycyling related category, they would have no recourse. 2. If a registered trademark is not defended when infringed upon there is a high likelyhood that the trademark could be lost. 3. If the registration office approved the "Roubaix" TM for Spez then they own it. Its the law. 4. Should they defend their brand and TM? for sure they should. 5. Have they done it the right way? Not so sure, but we dont know if they tried to make a behinds the scene deal with the store. 6. Would Cannondale, Scott, Ritchey, Pinarello etc defend their brands and TM's? I am pretty sure they would. My last point is would all you Spez haters feel the same way if we were dealing with some chinese fake manufacturer and not some emotional story about a war veterean trying to make a living? Don't be hypocrites. And yes I work in a branded corporate and ride a Spez.
  17. Its easy for distributors to hide behind the small print. In my opinion if BBT had offered a black swing arm and the customer accepted it, great, win/win both ways, BUT into days world of super competitive markets what differentiates winners from losers is going the extra mile. If the customer really wanted a green swing arm have the thing sprayed for a few rand customer walks away raving about the brand and everyone loves BBT. Sorry BBT your failure to assist is a brand fail. All this negativity for a few ml of paint? I can comment on this because I had an issue with a similar level brand in the past, their service was outstanding, not in line with corporate BS but they did everything to rectify the problem in so far as the CEO personally brought me a frame back from the factory to match my original frame. I no longer ride that brand as I have moved up the bike food chain a bit, but my wife and son still do.
  18. you want the original green swingarm and they really dont give a **** what you what...........
  19. Yeah, both good bikes buts I think the Silverback shades the Momsen, I really like the XT shadow + clutch rear mech and the SLX brakes are top notch, SLX 2x10 and not the mention the nice through axle as a bonus.Lots of bike for the cash.
  20. I suppose knee pain can from many things. I used to suffer from knee pain similar to what you describe. I had a BG bike fit done and shims were placed in my shoes to straighten the dip to the inside I have when my left knee was in the extended position. Knee pain 98% gone and I am a happy camper again.
  21. There is no space to watch. Does anyone really think Cherise would ride anything other than a Specialized?
  22. http://www.bikeradar.com/road/gear/category/bikes/road/product/review-scott-foil-40-13-47431/ Read this article. Put those eastons on and you have a great racer.
  23. Just check out how much Ultegra is even on that merida. It has a FSA crank so its looks a mix n match, not full ultegra......
  24. Dont get hung up about the groupset. Your performance is effected way more when it comes to frameset and wheels (rims and tyres to be exact due to rotational forces). 105 works just as well as ultegra with a tiny weight penalty. Groupset should be further down your list of priorities.
