  1. My date is a Blue Bulls supporter so he probably won't be receiving many updates telling him that his team has scored (if any)
  2. I don't live there but my family does. Can't wait for the December holiday as I will be there for 10 days and I've yet to ride all the singletrack and jeeptrack. Karkloof is just up the road from here too. I'm not sure how safe it is to ride around Karkloof on my own though. I felt totally safe in the game reserve. There are cottages in the nature reserve if you plan on spending the night in the area.
  3. Yip, it is too small. He's getting a new bike for Christmas and I've been tasked with finding him one that is suitable. I'll make a separate post asking for suggestions as I have no idea what size to get him.
  4. I went riding in Umgeni Valley Nature Reserve recently. It is situated on the outskirts of Howick. Howick is fairly close to Pietermaritzburg for those who don't know where it is. It is worth a visit and they are very keen on having cyclists ride in the reserve. I bought an annual ticket as my mom lives right next door and it cost me R220. I can also take up to 4 family members in with me each time. What a bargain hey! There is a mixture of farm roads, jeep track and singletrack. The reserve is open from 6 am till 7pm in summer. Here's some pics of a ride I did with my nephew. View from Umgeni Valley towards my mom's complex. There's a nice braai area right near this waterfall. Howick Falls is towards the left. I never took a pic of it as it was quite misty. This is the top road. It consists of quite a few little ups and downs and is nice and fast. The rolling hills. Some of the wildlife... The road you can see down below in the valley is jeep track. A couple of the very steep climbs have concrete paths.
  5. Thanks Shebeen. I've bookmarked the site.
  6. I also have to go to a wedding on Saturday. I'll have to bribe someone to sms me regular updates as I fear for my life if I dare not pitch.
  7. That was the good old days, hey, DR. I think I still have a pic of you on your road bike. Riding around there was loads of fun and a good workout.
  8. Looks like yours are genuine Mavics then DR.
  9. Miltons.

The unfortunate reality is that adventure races are bad for bikes. If you only plan on doing short adventure races then don't spend 8K on a bike.
  13. Glad to hear he has got his new prosthesis. Mandibles2008-10-14 00:27:24
  14. Mine was also Sani2C. There was a small piece of paper attached to the account which said that they had changed their system (or something along those lines) and were busy collecting all outstanding amounts.
  15. I got a letter this week telling me that I still owe them R0.00 and must settle my account asap.
  16. Awesome gesture Intern
  17. Have you tried contacting the ticket office (082 533 4545). Perhaps someone handed it in.
  18. The goodies are meant to be in the Camelbak' date=' not your pockets [/quote'] Please give us a demo of how you take goodies out of that water carrier while cruisng along some district road, trying to stay in a bunch. Please confirm time and place. I will contact Net Care 911. For goodies such as gels and energy bars I tuck them under my shorts around the knee-line
  19. The goodies are meant to be in the Camelbak, not your pockets Seriously though, some dual suspension mtb frames only have one water bottle cage. My bike's cage is in a position where it is dangerous to get to and if there is mud around it always gets filthy and I don't dare drink from the water bottle. People like me also spend way longer than the pros out there and need all the water we can carry.
  20. Nelmapius. Here's the GPS coordinates S25 51.946 E28 15.867.
  21. I rode here on Sunday. The route is very, very flat and consists of jeep track and singletrack. It is generally well marked with signs which are identical to those seen at Groenkloof. I was on my own and felt safe at all times even though I was the only cyclist around. Don't expect to see any animals on that side though. It looks like they are going to develop the trail even more and add a couple of bumps, ditches and other fun stuff.
  22. I could use a commuter bike to ride to work each day or to pop down to the shops. It all depends on where you live. I'm sure many people could use that portable change room at races too
