  1. I dont think a list of names should be published. Not everyone is willing or able to make a contribution and by providing a list you will be able to figure out who has not yet made contributions. On a similar note, I personally don't like making my donations to any charities/worthy causes known to others as I feel it is a private matter between me and the recipients but I guess not everyone feels the way I do. Shaun has been acknowledging the receipt of proof of payments so you will know whether your contribution has been received or not. Thanks Shaun, bet you've been kept very busy by this worthy cause!
  2. Fire is selling Rocket Compression Garments according to this post of hers: https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum_posts.asp?TID=28384&PN=1
  3. I asked at the entrance gate this afternoon and the fees will apparently be R18-50 from next month onwards. Not too big an increase (up R1-40)and at least the silly 10c has now been rounded up to 50c. Yay!
  4. Deal, next Groenies ride it is then.
  5. My response was still related to Groenkloof as well. Hr's subsequent posting wasn't. How about I buy you a beer and we forget about the hijacking?
  6. No, I didn't. HR started the hijacking Now he owes me even more beer!
  7. Crossroads Hotel in Hilton stocks Notties beer. "The Beer Route": http://beer.kzn.org.za/beer/index.html PS: I think we should start a separate thread under Chit Chat for our Midlands Pub Crawl Tour before Admin reprimands us for hijacking.Mandibles2008-06-24 04:08:12
  8. [quote name=holy roller i sense a midlands pub crawl coming on? mandibles' date=' your dad is truly my hero![/quote] A Midlands pub crawl is an excellent idea! It is awesome riding around that area. We could easily manage Rawdons, the Bierfassel and Notties in a day and there are excellent B'n Bs in the area. The smaller beer bottles fit into the water bottle cages perfectly too so we don't have to worry about staying hydrated between venues.
  9. Wish I was as good at testing beer as my dad was. You could give him a beer from anywhere in the country and he would be able to tell you at which brewery it was brewed purely by tasting it! This thread is bringing back lots of memories for me. My first ever cycle race was at Groenkloof only a week after I bought my first bike. The race also marked the official opening of Groenkloof. It looked very different in those days. The entire area was one big forest and there weren't any animals. They have done a tremendous amount of work to return the area to its former habitat and it will always be one of my favourite places to ride. Anyway...think I've done enough reminiscing and hijacking of this thread
  10. Any of those will do, thanks What you probably don't know Wolfie is that it was my late father who started up the Nottingham Road Brewing Company. He worked at SAB for about 30 years and then started up the brewery at Rawdons. At one stage he was rated as one of the world's best beer testers (tough job ). I think I was born to drink beer
  11. can we sort this out over a pint of pickled pig perhaps? We most definitely can. Excellent idea!
  12. A monthly ticket costs R136.80. It is the equivalent of 8 single-entry tickets. HR! Watch out! I WILL take revenge when you least expect it Mandibles2008-06-24 01:33:59
  13. I bought a monthly entry ticket to Groenkloof yesterday and was told that the fees are going to be increased next month. Make sure that you arrive there with some extra cash to cover the increase.Mandibles2008-06-24 09:28:27

  15. All I can see on SAPA is "DEBATE ON THE PRESIDENCY BUDGET VOTE" Where's Holy Roller? He's probably got access to read what it's all about.
  16. Happy Birthday Ronelle. Sounds like you've had an excellent birthday so far. Enjoy the rest of it.
  17. Mine is gun metal colour and components are X-O and XTR.
  18. I have been cycling for many years and changed to a WSD two years ago as I couldn't find a bike size that fitted me correctly. A men's small was at least 10 cm too long for me. Best change I ever made. There is definitely a market for WSD and it is not merely hype.
  19. one way is to google one (make sure it isn't copyright protected). copy the link' date=' paste that into the avatar jobbie on your profile, and, god-willing, it'll appear?[/quote'] Is there any size limit on avatars loaded via links? Just curious as two of the avatars in question are above 130KB.
  20. ja but according to a lot of people tney dont pay out..so what the hell does it help having a higher premium? I was referring to cycle insurance in general and not just Pedal Care and Cyclesure. I was contacted recently by a company offering me cycle specific insurance but I can't remember the name and it wasn't Pedal Care or Cyclesure.
  21. It doesn't help specifying only the insured value and premium. How much is the excess? My bike is insured for 51K with Pedal Care and I pay R255 with an excess of 10% plus claim minimum of R500. I recall the Cyclesure excess being less than this but the premium is higher.
  22. I am a Cyclelab club member and don't mind admitting it. If I recall correctly from club newsletters received in the past, they had bike boxes made up for the Argus transportation and it is probably one of these that they offered you. The basic bike box that all bikes come in cannot be compared to those used by special transportation companies and I suspect the one they offered you was more reinforced than normal. The box used when my bike was transported to the Argus was wide enough to wrap a thick blanket around the bike, was much sturdier, and could withstand some rough treatment. It was also big enough to fit my bike in without having to disassemble it.
  23. I also rode at Groenkloof this weekend. I asked the staff at the entrance gate and the hut about the new route. A guy at the hut said that he had asked his boss about it and his boss told him that it was not yet open and had only been used for races so far. I got a map from them but it did not show where the new route is. I can't understand why there was an article in the newspaper if it isn't yet open!
