The unfortunate reality is that adventure races are bad for bikes. If you only plan on doing short adventure races then don't spend 8K on a bike.

Mine was also Sani2C. There was a small piece of paper attached to the account which said that they had changed their system (or something along those lines) and were busy collecting all outstanding amounts.

I got a letter this week telling me that I still owe them R0.00 and must settle my account asap.

My bike's cage is in a position where it is dangerous to get to and if there is mud around it always gets filthy and I don't dare drink from the water bottle. People like me also spend way longer than the pros out there and need all the water we can carry.

I rode here on Sunday. The route is very, very flat and consists of jeep track and singletrack. It is generally well marked with signs which are identical to those seen at Groenkloof. I was on my own and felt safe at all times even though I was the only cyclist around. Don't expect to see any animals on that side though. It looks like they are going to develop the trail even more and add a couple of bumps, ditches and other fun stuff.

I could use a commuter bike to ride to work each day or to pop down to the shops. It all depends on where you live. I'm sure many people could use that portable change room at races too

If you want an opinion then you might need to "bump" your post during the week as it is sometimes quiet here over weekends (or the guys are too busy in the "price fixing" topic ).

The derailleurs are fairly similarly specced. The front one is better on your current bike and the rear is better on the one you want to get. The shifters are better than your current one. Does your current bike have disc brakes or V-brakes and what make and model are they? Depending on why you want to buy a new bike, it might be worth rather just getting a new fork. You will have to weigh up how much you can get for your current bike as opposed to what you will pay for the new one etc. There are plenty of 2nd hand forks for sale every now and again on the Hub.
