Where do people park for this? And is it obvious where to go? 'Cape Town Stadium' is a pretty broad location description for someone not from the area 😂

I got an email saying that the vets will be grouped together to make the bunches a bit bigger:
QuoteIn some good news for Veteran Men in the 2022 Tour du Cap 4-Day Stage Race, the president commissaire has approved the grouping of the Vets 30+ and 40+ age groups in a single racing bunch as well as and 50+ and 60+ Vets.
I'm doing this. My first long distance race since 2019 (been doing crits since then) and I'm kakking 😂 Covid knocked my training plan for 6 weeks at the end of last year so I'm feeling woefully underprepared. My goal is to not come last!

Well done and good luck.
Wow, that is dedication 😂 I'll have a look for the old thread, thanks!
This is my first CTCC and I got 2C. What are the chances for a sub-3 in that group?
Has anyone received their seeding yet? Nothing for me yet 😢
i just checked Strava now if the Op only has a road bike then Tokai is not going to be an option as the tar section will give mere mortals 20-25mins only. If you have a mtb & take it from the gate then you'll get roughly 50-60mins. Then you might as well do Ou Kaapse Weg from Steenberg side at enter into Silvermine to complete about +-20mins
Road bike only, I'm afraid. Thanks for the help!
60min FTP test includes
10min warm up
5min recovery
2miin at VO2max
3min recovery
3min Tempo
2min recovery
3min tempo
2 min recovery
20min hang it all out there
10 min recovery
=60min.
If you want to do a 90min TT with a full 60min flat out then I suggest you head over to the Paarl velodrome and ride incircles till your head spins. Thats the best place for a 90min FTP test (Full 60min TT)
Amazing, thanks. Does one just turn up at the velodrome or do you need to book time?
R27 when the South Easter is pumping from Port Owen to Cape Town, you can do a 120min FTP test with a 40km/h SE
I caught a pumping North Wester from Rooi Els to Gordon's Bay a few weeks ago which was NOT pleasant
60mins ??
Arent they usually between 20-30 ?
From what I've heard the full version is 60 minutes but the 20 minute effort can be multiplied by 0.95 to get a passably accurate 60 minute FTP.
I'm not convinced there is anywhere around here to do the full 60 but just interested to hear if anyone has any tips
Can anyone recommend a route to take around Cape Town (I'm from overseas but based in Somerset West for the summer) that would be suitable for a 60 minute FTP test?
I've just ordered my first power meter, but can't think of anywhere near me that doesn't either have too much decent or intersections.
We were in Cape Town last weekend and took a drive along the R44 from Gordons Bay to Bettys Bay.
It looks like a very scenic road to do a 100km return ride.
But the shoulder looks very narrow and there are many blind corners.
Is it a recommended route?
I did this last week and it was brilliant. If you leave early enough, the road is very quiet.
I left at 05:30 and saw almost no cars. The cars that I did see all gave me a safe passing distance.
I think that route is so well known amongst drivers as being full of cyclists that they tend to be aware and expect it.
Try throw in a Steenbras climb on the way back if you can!
LCE Challenge done and I can confirm two things:
Thanks all the advice everyone!
The Avanza is really versatile. lots of folding seats and room. Use them for field work in the Drakensberg. Pretty amazing where they can actually get to. Light and rear wheel drive.
Thanks! I've gone for the Avanza - I'll let you guys know how it goes.
How many people are going to be driving with you in the car? A road and MTB fit in any of the A segment rental cars. Well all the ones I have used so getting one bike in with all you luggage should be a synch. not to mention it is safer that way.
It'll be 2 adults and 2 kids. I'm only going up for the race, so luggage will be minimal.
Quote a few car hire companies have cars with tow-hitches and bike racks too. Or they have clip-on racks. That way you can hire a normal hatchback or similar. Much cheaper option.
This is a great idea, thanks!
I'm doing the LCE in Langebaan this weekend and will be hiring a car to get up there (from Cape Town).
I don't own a bike rack—what would be the best car that I could hire that would be able to hold a road bike (with front and/or back wheel off) in the boot?
I'll be taking the family, so putting seats down won't be an option as the kids will be in the back.
Been looking at the Fortuner and the Hilux.
Thanks!

As a cyclist here from the UK, reading frantic discussions about the perils of riding in the rain and emergency last-minute gear changes are classic 😂
