  11. if you have the PowerTap G3 you will need to follow how to replace the battery by watching this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFbhbd-KLA0 the battery is a normal CR2032 if you have a PowerTap SL+. Pro+ or Elite+ you will need to watch this video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JA1i_3bJGqc here you will need a SLIVER OXIDE 357, please note ONLY Silver Oxide works.
  12. no not yet, the Bluetooth version of PowerCal ONLY works with I phone together with the PowerTap application, however that said if Stava can support an ANT+ Power Meter then yes it will work you will need to buy a Wahoo ANT+ receiver that plugs into an I phone and then sync the PowerCal accordingly.
  13. CycleOps is very open about the PowerCal’s shortcomings and makes no attempt to pull the wool over riders’ eyes. The PowerCal does exactly what it says it will do. For training purposes, it gives you a tangible number to work with and motivates you on rides. It is not accurate enough to use as a tool to measure quick bursts, but on steady climbs that riders may use for training, it gives you real-time numbers very close to those of power meters costing over eight times more.
  14. no not stupid, 1 service centre/international distributor allows for a quick and efficient service as a client would deal with 1 representative from Bicycle Power from start to finish this also allows BPT to have a complete history of all the units it sells through its serial number database. not to mention that is it strongly advised that only a service station serviced a PowerTap hub as after replacing bearings a hub should be re-calibrated and only service stations have to tooling to do this. it is not suggested that a LBS service PT hubs as this may affect warranty. the 1 service station/international distributor set up would be exactly the same as any other PM available in SA and I would think would be the same as most bicycle part distributors in SA where if there is a service required on an advise piece of kit it should be sent to the service centre, MTB shocks are a perfect example of this. training and a detailed product knowledge is required when it comes to supporting some of the more advanced cycling accessories out on the market. I hope this helps??
  15. a few things to keep in mind with PM's. 1. as PM's are pretty advanced pieces of kit they can and do go wrong from time to time, who offers the best after sales support and the quickest turn around time??? Bicycle Power are a fully qualified service centre and generally get units fixed within 24h with no need to return to the supplier. 2. road or MTB systems, to date there only 2 or 3 systems that can really claim they work on the MTB. 3. demo programs, only 1 PM has a demo where you can load before you buy as far as we are aware. the PowerTap hubs have dropped to below R10 000 (R9 995) for most of their hubs, the road wheelsets sell for R13 000 front and rear into 32H rims the G3 hub is considered the lightest, most durable and most cost effective system out on the market to date. thus far only PowerTap and SRM are third part verified to be within 1,5% and 2% accuracy respectively.
  16. there were some more specials put up on twitter not that long ago: https://twitter.com/BicyclePowerSA
  17. Madison, WI—August 1, 2013— Just seven weeks ago, Saris Cycling Group – which owns the Saris, CycleOps and PowerTap brands – made a commitment to ramp up its efforts and dedicate additional resources to the PowerTap brand. PowerTap is already seeing gains from these efforts, and is passing them along to the customer. “More and more cyclists are in the market for a power meter, but all too frequently price is a barrier to purchase. We’re happy to say that with our new pricing structure – owing to our dedicated focus on PowerTap – we’re able to lower this barrier,’ says Jesse Bartholomew, PowerTap and CycleOps Category Manager. “Owning a power meter has never been easier or more affordable.” Effective August 1st, PowerTap is lowering the MSRP of its best-selling PowerTap G3 Power Meter hub and wheelsets, which will aggressively position PowerTap to continue its leadership role in the category. PowerTap G3 hubs will carry significantly reduced MSRP of R9995 (from R12 995), with G3 alloy wheelsets at R13 000. PowerTap will also offer its Reynolds Carbon wheelset for R21 995. These reductions in pricing will allow PowerTap to legitimately lay claim to offering the most durable, accurate and affordable power meter on the market. “Over the course of our 15 years working with power we’ve seen the benefits of training with power on countless occasions,” says Bartholomew. “Our goal is simple: we want everyone to be able to experience the benefits of cycling with a power meter. Affordability to the end users and allowing our Preferred Dealers to maintain their margin has been critical for us through this process.”
