  1. As for the comments on the subscription fees guys you are by no means forced to buy the CycleOps Virtual Training application when buying the trainer !! other software packages include Zwift (free to use for now), TrainerRoad (+/- $10/mth), PeriPedal (costs unknown) and many others i am sure. the CVT app is one of the cheaper apps out there !! CVT also allows free ride for 1h where you can control the trainer via a tablet/phone, this is FREE (limited to 1h) if you want to exit then reenter the app to do a longer workout you welcome to do so.
  2. Hi all, just to be clear, the PowerSync (which makes use of the classic series trainer frame shared by the CycleOps Fluid 2) will accommodate 29" wheels, the concern is the size / volume of the wheel, wheels below a 2.1" will have clearance above that the tire will make contact with the ground, all that is needed is to raise the trainer, maybe some tiles inserted under the trainer feet will help.... here are images as to what i am referring to.
  3. Just to clarify the comments re the Joule to control the PowerSync trainer, there are two options, the Joule GPS and the Joule 2.0 (same features just no GPS) these units will control the trainer. Garmins cannot control the trainer as they do not have the capability to "talk" to the trainer, they can only "listen" so your Garmin will display the same data as a Joule but will not be able to adjust the resistance. In terms of apps, without a paid up subscription to the CycleOps Virtual Training app you can still do the freeride option, and that is limited to 1h, once the 1h is done, you can restart and do another hour should you wish. You are not tied into the monthly subscription either, you can buy 1 month and not use it again for 6 months then renew again when you want to. This is a setting in the app when you sign up - auto renew is a default setting so be aware to change this to "off" when you sign up.
  4. myself as an example. 8min PPO = 350w 90% of 350 = 315w (power:weight (72kg) = 4.38w/kg) 20min PPO = 330w 95% of 330 = 313.5w (power:weight (72kg) = 4.35w/kg) both much of a muchness.
  5. So what was discussed here is correct, 95% of the average peak power output (PPO) for 20min = FTP. then take this FTP number and / by weight to get FTP Power: Weight ratio. at CycleOps VIP Training we however do 2 x 8min efforts at max then take 90% of the PPO 8min and then divide that by weight to get Power: weight ratio
  6. Here is a great testing procedure i found off the net, 20 minutes easy warm up 3 x 1-minute wind ups with a minute rest between (100 RPM pedal cadence) 5 minutes easy 5 minutes all out (hard at first, but not so hard that you can't complete the effort) 10 minutes easy 20-minute time trial effort (like the previous 5-minute all out effort, keep in control, hard but steady, you don't want to over cook it and die at the end) 10 to 15 minute cool downif using a PowerBeam / PowerSync best would be to do this on FREE RIDE with the control type being GRADE not target power !! why we suggest this is you don't want to be limited or governed during the test and target power will do this.
  7. the washing machine is on spin cycle then.....
  8. 4.32w/kg for 1h - Dave
  9. Thank you NixM we appreciate the kind words !!
  10. Hi please try the below link: http://www.bicyclepower.co.za/Products/SarisCycleRacks.aspx
  11. Sorry for the late response, the Thelma 3 will work on any ISO 50mm towball, this is the standard towball in SA. So as long as the ball is the ISO 50mm ball the Saris rack will work perfectly well. Usually ISO 50mm is printed on the top of the towball.
  12. We would be happy to provide a Saris locking cable to solve this problem. http://www.saris.com/product/locking-cable They around R450 in SA.
  13. Great question, yes the front wheel holders will fold down flat and within the frame ensuring the bike rack can be kept out of the way when not in use. As each of the front wheel holders moves independently should you only have two bikes loaded you can raise the needed front wheel holders.
  14. At this point in time the Saris Thelma will only be available in a 3 bike.
  15. Please feel free to contact us on, http://www.bicyclepower.co.za/ContactUs.aspx
  16. And now for the ETA, please understand this is not a confirmed ETA due to unforeseen delays that may happen but we are targeting the following: PowerTap G3 disc hub with PowerTap Joule GPS + : ETA - end April PowerTap P1 Pedals : ETA - end June PowerTap C1 Chainring : ETA - end July
  17. sorry for the long delay guys, pricing on the new PowerTap systems as follows: PowerTap C1 chainring system that will be available in 50/36, 52/36 and 53/39 all 5 bolt 110 BCD 10/11 speed R9995.00 incl FREE delivery!! PowerTap P1 pedal system incl Look Keo Cleats R16 995.00 incl FREE delivery!! PowerTap G3 disc 24 & 28 spoke hubs R11 995.00 incl FREE delivery!!
  18. good news we have just received our international distributor pricing and are furiously working out costs for the local market, we should have something towards the end of tomorrow for you.
  19. The road G3 hubs have had no changes done, they are not changing the 32 hole G3 MTB hub as of yet, but they have released a new "road disc" hub which uses straight pull spokes and comes in 28 and 24 spoke configurations that will suit the newer MTB carbon rims like Roval, Syncros etc. They have managed to shave off about 120-150 grams with this new disc hub.
  20. Pricing on the P1 Pedals will be around R15-16000 and the C1 Chainring will be around R10000, hopefully (depending on the R/$ rates). The pedals will be available in S.A early June and the rings early July all going well.
  21. here is a new video from the PowerTap guys, more details RE local pricing will be available next week. Here is just a few of the articles that have been published about the new products DCrainmaker write up: http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2015/03/powertap-announces-pedals-and-chainring.html BikeRadar write up: http://www.bikeradar.com/road/news/article/powertap-p1-pedal-and-c1-chainring-power-meters-launched-43810/ Bicycling Magazine: http://www.bicycling.com/bikes-gear/new-bike-gear-previews/powertap-brings-triple-threat Velonews: http://velonews.competitor.com/2015/03/bikes-and-tech/powertap-launches-pedal-chainring-based-power-measurement_363677
  22. The cranks and pedals will give left right balance. although the cranks will be a calculated amount - similar to Quark.
  23. from what i can see is yes it should be compatible as the look web page makes mention that the crank is both 110 and 130 BCD the PowerTap rings will be 110 BCD.
  24. Stages do have patents on their system, just as their is a patent on this system, perhaps the biggest downfall of Stages (and a few other crank based systems) is that you HAVE to run Alu crank/s and we have found that some of our clients do not want to do so. The design intention was to add a power meter that can be fitted to a large majority of bikes sold worldwide without too much disturbance to the rest of the components and still be accurate - i.e. if you have carbon cranks then you don't need to sacrifice them to have a power meter.
  25. In theory it should be compatible yes. The main goal/ idea behind it was to keep the rings in the same plane as they were - keeping the chain line correct, as well as not having protrusions behind the rings to foul the frame in some applications.
