  1. Thanks Jaco.... We hope to spread the CycleOps love a little more with our new "smart" trainers. We are grateful for all the feedback we get from hubbers, good and bad. You guys motivate us to improve our service offerings. Keep an eye out more exciting things to come from us over the coming weeks.
  2. Great, just be careful with thinners that you do not remove the black colouring off the square black tape on the actual resistance unit roller (part where the bike tyre runs against the trainer).
  3. Hey guys what SkinnyOne said usually sorts the problem out..... We find that normal road tires are actually better than IDT tyres from a "grip" and sound perspective. Please give us a shout if you don't come right.
  4. Hi Carrera4s, Unfortunately the CycleOps PowerSync is not ANT-FEC so will not link up with the likes of Garmin. Our new Hammer direct drive trainer and Magnus (wheel on) trainer will be both ANT-FEC and BLE compatible so these will integrate with your Garmin. ETA on both the Hammer and Magnus is towards the end of the year.
  5. as the hammer is only expected to arrive in sept and given our exchange rate situation fluctuating a R2 500 variance is possible by the time stock arrives hence i have said between 20 - 25k if we look on the positive side you all would be smilling at 20k would you not ?? !!
  6. The Hammer is only expect to ship internationally around Aug / Sept. so won't be in Germany yet.
  7. We expecting the retail pricing of the Hammer to be between R20 - 25 000 however pricing will be confirmed closer to the time of arrival.
  8. The Pain Cave for many a cyclist including staff from BPT...... we prefer to be giving the pain though.......
  9. Hi, yes The Hammer will work on dual sus bikes......
  10. We hoping to get a few units in the coming weeks and testing will be available at our CycleOps VIP Training Hub in Rivonia to start with..... Having tested the trainer in Switzerland we feel we have something really special. some key features to the Hammer are the true 142mm / 148mm axle compatibility super quiet and it's slim and compact fold up design with integrated front wheel tray.....

  12. This is where the 5GHz transfer rate come in, i believe the P1's and C1's already have this built it, it just need to be turned on and this will happen in the coming updates. this is also where the active spin scan will be available. so the hardware is already built in its just a case of turning it on.
  13. So ALL powertap product will send data to head unit every 1sec however the smoothing fact you put on your head unit will not effect the battery life of the power meter. the new 5GHz caps that PowerTap is working on will mean that even more data is send in shorter durations of times however for the vast majority of users (99.9%) a 1sec transfer rate is good enough.
  14. The AAA battery is rated at 60h.
  15. The battery life on the PowerTap P1 pedals should last the average rider between 4 - 6 weeks depending on riding. The benefit of the AAA battery is that it is the second most common battery available in the world and fits in nicely behind the axle of the pedals eliminating the need for pods. Future firmware updates on the pedals should include extension on battery life along with active peddling dynamics.
  16. saying all this a lot depends of the race, most of the races in JHB are large bunches with hill that are sub 10min for the most an improved VO2 max power would serve better than power at threshold (30min +) however for races down in CPT with smaller bunch and some really nasty long hills that can take upwards of 1h FTP and the ability to ride sub threshold may be better off. hence i think its great to mix training up with the longer lower int intervals earlier in the week with the short VO2 / sub max efforts later in the week. a good balance with plenty of rest.
  17. one needs to make sure the lead up to FTP tests is the same each and every time. i.e. Monday rest day Tuesday 5min, 1min, 20sec test Wednesday 1h easy spin Thursday FTP test Friday rest or easy spin this is usually how its does and FTP test normally form part of a rest week as the hours are reduced and while the intensity is super high its for a relatively short duration. RE FTP not going up yet race results have improved, you need to look at how these results have been achieved. bunch sprints ?? if so FTP not really that important here. that said FTP is not a true reflection of what race results could be achieved. light riders <65kg can have massive FTP (power:weight ratios) especially indoors however get smoked by heavier rides as out on the road there is something to be said for absolute raw power......
  18. i fully get that and think its a wise choice, the PowerTap P1's were technically ready last year but chose not to bring them to market till testing over a longer period was done. thus far apart from one or two bugs with the Garmin head units the P1's seem pretty stable. the bugs are being corrected by Garmin.
  19. have a read of the DC rainmaker review, he had them for the better part of 6 weeks and no issues, in the units we have sold locally we have had no issues with the pedals.
  20. And a crash replacement policy of 40% off the MSRP when in a crash.... again this is the only pedals based PM to offer a crash replacement policy.
  21. Pricing includes an industry leading 2 year warranty on the PowerTap P1 pedals !!
  22. the pricing has been set at R16 995.00 incl VAT although we are watching the exchange rate hike again..... here is a review from DC Rainmaker . http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2015/08/powertap-p1-pedals-review.html
  23. Have you looked into getting a bike beam? http://www.saris.com/product/bike-beam
  24. have a look at trying to do this, i would base the workouts off % of FTP this way if your FTP changes throughout the session you dont need to recreate the workouts, you still riding at say 80% but just going faster at a higher FTP
