  1. Let me maybe also add this: I haven't ridden a 29er that runs a 27.5" this close in terms of handling in the twisties and overall handling. There also hasn't been a bike that I've wanted to hang on to for the rest of my life* than this one. * in Crow years!
  2. Hi Nico, Yeah Bibi answered part of your question. Cool thing is you can run a 140mm fork and sort some of the HA with the adjustable geo. Maybe it reads worse than intended: The Evil can climb - no problem with that. When I said long open sections I meant for people who ride gravel road vibes. Tokai to the mast this bike won't be the fastest as most pure XC bikes will chow it, but compared to it's peers it will most likely out-climb them. Even now I'm battling to put to words so EVERYONE will understand. Bikes are best discussed over a beer!
  3. Evil Bikes entered the short and slack 29er category with their new bike, The Following. A full carbon affair, that uses a refined version of the DELTA link suspension found on Evil's 26” Uprising, The Following has 120mm of rear travel with adjustable geometry. Click here to view the article
  4. This bike has been knocked down from R74k so there's already "value" at that price. This is a completely different beast compared to an Anthem, though. It can and will be the perfect one bike for many riders. It is a super capable trail bike that will shred with bikes twice it's size only to race XC the next day! It is not only trail "capable" - it is a proper trail bike. The Ride9 makes it an all round option.

Reports surfacing that the Lorenzo to Duc deal is done.
  12. First announced in late 2013, the Thunderbolt was billed as being equally at home on long, technical climbs as it is on flowy singletrack descents, having you powering through the rough stuff and popping off every trail feature you lay your eyes on. This was quite a bold claim for a bike with 120mm travel and labelled as a XC/ Trail bike. Click here to view the article

Ducati is using it to help keep the front wheel down under acceleration. It needs to add to the aero, but with their top speed they can sacrifice some drag to aid acceleration. That's what they say, you never know what they real reason is and what the knock on benefits are. VR and MM said post race that the race more of "just following each other" rather than racing and hinted that the winglets are to blame as the turbulence is apparently something stupid and doesn't inspire confidence to attack under braking. But hey, all of this I've read what do I know really? I ride a G650X that top out at around 160km/h and shake a sheet load when riding behind a SUV - makes me no expert! **** On that. The winglets, not me and my X Challenge! There's this funny story from F1 (seeing as most of you watch that as well) featuring Alonso, Benetton and Briatore. In their dominant years it was speculated that they have developed a device that reads the change of lights faster than the human can react and once it picked up the green lights (or the going out of the red lights!) it would launch the car off the grid. Lasers were mentioned along with some ultra sophisticated traction control. What else could be the reason behind Alonso's rapid get aways. Turns out questions were asked and theory mentioned in the paddock, only for Briatore himself to fuel the rumors in order to distract his competitors! So while they were wasting time trying to crack the tech and code behind the freaking laser beams, they could get on with winning races! So, one never knows who's doing what with these wings and if someone discovered a knock on benefit they are sure as hell not going to walk around the grid and tell everyone. Much like Williams did. Clever people these okes.

Here we go Aero winglets banned in MotoGP junior classes Moto2 and Moto3 http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/123405/winglets-banned-in-motogp-junior-classes "Aerodynamic winglets have been banned from Moto2 immediately, and will not be permitted in Moto3 beyond the end of this year." ... "Winglets first appeared in Moto2 during the final pre-season test at Qatar earlier this month, but as downward-facing devices on the back of CarXpert Interwetten's Kalex machines. These were designed to increase the turbulence felt by following riders, and following a decision by the governing body FIM, all winglets have been banned, effective immediately. Front-fairing winglets have also emerged in Moto3 on the Aspar Mahindras to add downforce, and these will be allowed for the balance of the year, but not from 2017. In both classes, "fairing designs used to deflect water displaced by the front wheel" without offering an aerodynamic gain are still allowed, the FIM confirmed."

I like aero and tech that comes with it, but not if at the expense of racing. Several riders complained about how difficult it is to follow a bike that has them on. For boring follow each other racing we already have F1! Can't find the story now, but in one of the lower classes they started running winglets on the rear of the bike to cause turbulence and make it difficult for the rider to slipstream. Ala Williams in the 90's!

Also, this was race number 1 of a long season. If we look back now we would not have guessed MM would have been so close or even on the podium judging by testing. DP is more like it. So a lot can still happen and I reckon once the Ducati settle down and ride with the eye on the big prize they will be in the mix. Biggest mistake they made was trying win to the race in the first couple of laps. JL and VR have mastered the art of waiting it out and pounce when the moment is there, then chip away at a gap. With some bikes stronger than others on some circuits and even parts of the circuit it will be important for anyone who is serious about the 2016 championship to play the long game. ****** Heck, watching the opening F1 round the morning and the opening MotoGP race in the evening I was just excited to see 5 guys on 3 different bikes battle it out the first couple of laps. Also, #wingletsmustfall. I see they have been banned from Moto3 and Moto2 (front and rear) and hopefully sense will prevail and they get banned from the top class as well.
