  1. assume the car coming at 110 km/h, while you do 40km/h - how much time do you actually have to do anything?? 150km/h, 41 metres per second.
  2. I prefer riding on my own these days. I don't get embarrassed and use my energy for pedaling, not arguing with chops.
  3. yes and from " he did 500 tests and not a single one was positive" to "it was the pressure of sponsors, and us, his fans to perform"... whatever. I think I go to a training session on Friday night, that might be more helpful for my personal riding ability than watching LA.
  4. Hi, bought the race lite 903 last year - love it, beautiful frame, OK tiagra. Looks fancier than it is. Ride the Axis -30 as a loan bike on the 94.7. Better 105, but heavier frame. Didn't enjoy it - would stick with 903, as I don't benefit from the difference in gears as much as I do from the difference in frame comfort.
  5. and they probably brag after "doing some serious climbing work this morning"... morons.
  6. I thought you have just had a fart of epic proportions. my bad.
  7. Seriously - we just keep on saying "let's not change anything as taxis are the worst anyways"? Following your logic, we might as well do away with speed limits, alcohol limits and road worthiness rules, because faak it, all taxis break the rules anyways. Lately I am embarrassed by the logic some of our fellow riders come up with. I have started enjoying rides on my own as I am fed up arguing with other about setting an example, attitude, making the first step, thinking for all of us etc - you seem to be a prime example why many drivers have issues with cyclists. What I never understand - I am a cyclist, I am a pedestrian, I am driving a vehicle. I drive to races, cycle and drive home. I don't think "cyclist vs car vs taxi, as I am all. I think I participate in traffic, no matter what changing method I am currently using. So yes, I try to set an example by following rules to increase safety. As long as we keep on blaming other before actually obeying rules ourselves, nothing will change.
  8. Strange, the more I read about this perceived cyclists vs cars bs, the more I realize that there are a lot of self centered arseholes in both sides. It's in our hands to change perceptions. Pride, blaming, arrogance is just going to make it worse for everyone else. Try be friendly and respectful for a change. Even to a taxi.
  9. If you were in CPT and not on Mars, I would buy them of you.
  10. shite, reading this it looks like I need to work on my fighting skills rather than my cycling skills. anyone able to teach me some Chuck Norris moves?
  11. uuhm, the conservative in me says it would be silly to finance the fastest depreciating item. the rider in me says - do it, else you'll never ride hahaha!. But seriously, I don't think financing a bike is a great decision.
  12. Geez niner, how old are you? How about we attempt to make the first step? This silly an eye for an eye thinking will just leave everyone blind.
  13. I hope the real story comes out. (or actually: I hope there is a real story and not what it seems to be).

  15. 56 grams including the glass lens (of which they seem to be very proud).
  16. yes, that is where mine was ordered... are they available locally?
  17. hahahaha true. don't we all ride for fun ?
  18. Agreed, I guess one can just get an idea if something approaches from the back - and not get a super detailed view. Which is still better than not having any idea at all about what's going on behind yourself.
  19. yes, will post a pic once I got mine - and yes, THAT handlebar tape is much worse than the mirror... :-) Maybe I should order a box of mirrors and sell them to hubbers?
  20. Have been playing with the thought, but have (stupidly, if we're honest...) thought they all look terrible, incl. Blackburn etc. Found this one, available in the US of A - anyone tried / seen it? Would you fit it to your bike? Have ordered one through a friend who is bringing it, as postage was more than the mirror, but maybe something we should bring into the country?
  21. So the same counts for motorbikes surely. that explains why guys on 1500cc motorbikes only wear flip flops and shorts, as it makes them ride safer! It also explains why wearing a seat belt in a car is actually stupid, because it just makes you feel too "untouchable". I will deactivate my airbag in my car tonight, because who are these engineers kidding here?
  22. Let's all club together, buy a couple of thousand of hectares in the Karoo and built a bike paradise!
  23. I drop off my toddler at creche every day. The amount of "loving parents" whose kids don't even get to wear a seatbelt is mind blowing. ("because he doesn't like it", "it doesn't save lifes" etc....). I am not very popular at creche anymore for telling them what I think.
  24. There is also a slight difference between choosing to cycle for leisure and having to cycle as your only means because your R70 a day doesn't allow for anything else.. anyhow.
  25. Any news on this story - hope you had any luck!?
