  1. If we weren't so concerned about the look of our bikes we'd just apply common sense and fit them with decent rear view mirrors. No need to ride against traffic (40kmh + app 100kmh equals 140kmh impact speed) There is a very small percentage of people amongst us that would feel the weight difference. Everyone could safely see the approaching truck.
  2. how about a mirror?
  3. yes, daytime driving lights reduce the number of bike / motorbikes not being seen by other drivers. However, it reduces it, i.e. there will always be the case where someone doesn't see another vehicle, despite lights. but anything helps, great idea.
  4. Would you really?? It's not about being caught by police but by cars doing 140 a few cms away from you. I'm sure you can answer your question....
  5. I'm still on leave, wanted to use the last couple of days for some training. And haven't felt like it at all.
  6. How much for a decent Dogma replica frame, out of interest?
  7. So we save 20 grams in weight by buying R2k cranks, which we then wrap. It's like my beautiful iPhone which I never get to see cause its put into a rubber case cause I am so scared it cracks. What have we become..? :-)
  8. they might have to change this paragraph now...: The fact is, Luke Armstrong has more athletic resources at his disposal then any ten year old athlete in the world. “Look, he’s got Nike, Trek, Oakley and Livestrong behind him,” said Jake Rodriguez at Nike. “And I can tell you, all those Honey Stinger waffles are already having a huge effect.”
  9. hahahah... am off to Germany for a holiday, can't wait to finally buy new jeans and shoes that fit... :-)
  10. sometimes when I drive my car into a situation like this, I feel quite bad afterwards for getting so upset. the other day I even hooted at a group of cyclists, with my (road) bike on my car, knowing exactly what was going to happen - the unavoidable "F*** you axxhole, we are 4 abreast and it stays like that". I feel bad because I should have just chilled and waited and been happy for them having the opportunity to enjoy the fresh air and the group activity. if they want to get killed in the process by riding stupidly, it shouldn't concern me, I only got to my destination 15 seconds later. what concerns me though is that they have no idea, how it feels as a driver, if you actually hit someone. Trust me, I have also been there and am still struggling with it. So - ride as stupid as you want, but consider the worst case and how it impacts others (maybe consider that before your show everyone the middle finger).
  11. Man, that's tough - I am 1.95, struggle to find (affordable) bikes that don't look like children's bikes. Clothes is another challenge - I am only 83kg, the average SA XL shirt has the right length, but fits two of me. Same with cycling shirts. It's either tight enough and showing half my stomach or long enough and and as wide as two of me. Buying jeans - finding a 36 length in SA, impossible.
  12. For proper singletrack riding with your kid: www.pro-biketrailer.net Expensive, but possibly the only option if you don't want to sacrifice on your own riding.
  13. when a flew to Joburg to the 94.7 now, I saw two guys wheeling in their fully assembled, not packaged at all bike to the check in counter - how does that work ?? Do the airlines carry bikes like that?
  14. What, a substantiated post on the hub... ?! Dude....
  15. hahahah :-) we just had to 3rd once-a-year car service. with 7000 K's on the clock... hahah
  16. the Pinion gear box (the box above the BB) is the bulky box. Have a look here: http://pinion.eu/en/...n/pinion-p1-18/ 18 gears, oil change only once every 10 000 kms, 636% overall ratio.
  17. sounds awesome, where do I find details..?
  18. 18 gears, carbon belt, full suspension bike! incredible - the car gear box made it onto a bike... http://www.mi-tech.de/bikes/epsylon.htm
  19. And once again my local LBS in Cape Town are not failing to disappoint. Sent a pic of the bearing and the fork to two of them. First one replies that they'll forward it to the guys on the floor cause they are just the online division (and now everyone knows who we talk about). That was Monday, last thing I heard. Second one I called the next day to see if they had received my email. And then they managed to send me a price, they now got the bike. Lets see if said first one is truly only online.

really? I thought it was much quieter along those Joburg roads than it is at the Argus. Except for Camps Bay, where people are too cool to clap. (eerie silence over there usually...)
  22. morals in exactly. the people who toss their rubbish / gel pouches along the route also think it's normal to just not care. I don't mind if BF push GF all the way, they'll know if they really deserved the time. as long as they don't get into my line...

    2012 94.7

My first 94.7. Flew up from Cape Town yesterday. That was about the only thing that worked out: bike got damaged on the flight - so I ran to the Expo trying to get help. Solomon's drove me to their workshop, spent 2 hours (at 3:00pm), no luck as right part not in stock - then they simply gave me a brand new bike of the show floor - no questions asked (couldn't believe it, in Cape Town we get charged 50 bucks to have a tyre inflated...). Didn't sleep enough as at the News Cafe next to the hotel there were too many half naked girls as part of some Soviet launch. Started with a hangover... Still thinking Joburg is flat. Faaaa*. The new bike wasn't set up to suit me properly. After 10 kms I couldn't feel my hands. Then I lost my water bottle on a fast down hill after hitting a pothole. Faaa*. Then my bag unzipped and my multi tool hit the road at 65km/h. Faaa*. Then I hit bottom somewhere on the windy highway - dragged myself to the finish in 3:20. Got to the Polo field. My car was a rental and it was white. That's all I could remember. Cruising up and down the polo field hitting the button until my car beeped took forever. Trying to find Solomon's to drop bike off.... Now sitting a the airport, sipping cappuccino and reminiscing how awesome it all was. Thanks Joburg!
  24. Hahaha. Finished race, in pain, cause I think new bike wasn't the right size - but hey, beats not riding at all. The headset bearings were cracked open when we took the bike out the bag. Solomon's has also never seen anything like it - and it's not a closed bearing so we couldn't replace the bracket holding the balls. I just hope frame and fork aren't damaged.
  25. Wow. Solomon's is lending me a brand new bike for the race. Am speechless.
