  1. The future of e-bikes ? https://www.facebook.com/TheTechViral/videos/439384386872023/ Not too long then you could get a robot to ride your bike for you and become The King of the Mountain!
  2. I also want a special, but with wheels and a groupset on the frame
  3. Couldn't Farr arrange to send it as 'n prize you won?
  4. I told my wife that she can get a new tennis rig - a good racket is only R3K + New bag , shoes and outfit. Not my problem the sport I like cost more than hers. At least I am not spending R150 K on a bike - I did show her the more expensive stuff ranging from R75 - R175 K the other day , but I sulked and said it will be ok and I will settle for a low end bike costing only R25K
  5. Thanks for all the input. I did ride a Cromo 30 years ago, but that is way to farr behind me to remember and since then it has been alu double and tripple butted. I need to get a new machine and I am no race snake as much as I would like to be, but only compete riding against myself. 250km / week and 2 to 3 hour rides and perhaps 2 or 3 x 100 to 150 km events per year is what I am after and am just looking for something that will do the job comfortably and most important reliably. Believe me, with the family and 2 small boys I am actually not in the position to spend money on a new bike and should just stick with my MTB and ride it for another 10 years - but the trails are not doing it that much for me anymore and nowadays I find myself looking for longer road and gravel routes to escape to. So if it depends on my wife , a R 8000 bike should be sufficient, but based on specs and knowing myself, I find the R20K region to offer the right stuff that will pull me through, and the FARR Cromo is definately one of the options, although it is currently going for a 3 - 4 K above the likes of Silex 400, GP 500 and the Switch - So I am currently doing alot of research and thinking and try to see and feel as many of the potential bikes as possible to help me with the decision.
  6. I am not convinced ....? If the Cromo suspension is so great then why does the next model up offer a Carbon fork? Wouldn't a full carbon frame such as the Titan switch then be a FARR better option at a similiar (lower) price? I am looking at the best investment for something I can ride and enjoy for the next 10 years and hence all the queries.
  7. So why go for one of these Cromo builds rather than for something like a Momsen GP500? Is the cromo frame realy that much nicer than a Alu frame? Just asking because I have been looking at the different bikes available in the 20 - 25 K bracket and by looking at the components it seems as if the other options might be better than the FARR's? (and cost less also)
  8. Hahaha! I had my suspension stand for 4 years - upright - and I did not even need to pump it as it was good to go! Anyway, I service my FOX front and rear myself and use Motorbike suspension oils with similar spec as the fox oils and they are sharp!! I always oil my stanchions after a bike-wash and believe the practice is key to good maintenance?
  9. Eish ... time flies
  10. I still battle to understand hills
  11. Soon to come - handlebar mountable EMP trail guns
  12. That sums it up nicely?
  13. Probably the best way to be noticed / visible while cycling?
  14. I now decided to use my lights even if it is not dark. My Ay-Ups are permanently mounted on the front and I turn them on as daytime lights in flicker mode to make sure I am noticed from the front and also with a bright 3 LED red flicker on the back. Last week a woman nearly drove into me from the front while looking directly at me . I have the lights and decided not to ever ride without them and to put my visibility / safety first!
  15. Would an e-bike be the same as (or modern day version of) a "help-my-trap"? Anyone remember those? Can I take one of them on the trails?
  16. My thinking is that perhaps in the future a new Niche will develop for pedal power only trails or sections - based on cyclist who do not want to share trails with E-bikes for valid reasons. Obviously there will also be trails for both. Normal bikes and E-bikes automatically generate 2 categories because they are 2 different things, no question about that. I think naturally over time more differentiation will takes place and the riders / cyclists will set the playing fields. Anyway, I think it is time for me to go out for a pedal ....
  17. Hi Cois. I just read this entire thread since it was started nearly 6 months ago and in my heart I am reaching out to you this evening with much thought and prayer. I will follow this thread every step and must say that I take my hat off to a warrior like you. Dude, let me know if you need someone to talk to or have place in your life for another person to be a friend - I am from Centurion (not far) and will gladly come through to meet you and have a chat or drive you somewhere if needed. Anton
  18. Cederberg, starting at Algeria! was there last month. Just remember, no MTB on the hiking routes, MTB's only allowed on the Jeep Track.
  19. Fork rebound not matched with rear suspension, front goes down and back pushes up! I know, had a few over the handlebar experiences myself. Adjusted the fork rebound and tried to match front and rear and now all much better. Also had to change the way I hold on to the bike on technical stuff, lighter grip on the front and don't be afraid to pull on the handlebars when going over stuff.
  20. H14, I have one and it's a super light. Can be head or handlebar mounted + the battery pack is separate, so you can mount the light on your helmet and battery in back pocket.
  21. On my last trip to Latin America I was lucky to experience a Sunday morning city bicycle ride. The city initiative blocks off 22km of city center every Sunday Morning from about 6 am to 4pm. Along with the initiative, bicycles are also made available free of charge for anyone to join the fun. I was lucky enough to get a yellow Mexico City bicycle, single speed with almost no breaks at all. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v509/ANTHROPOID/IMG_0770.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v509/ANTHROPOID/IMG_0764.jpg
  22. Eish... I been so busy traveling, Miami, then over to Mexico next week. Hope to be back riding the Moo trail again by first week May.
