  1. Exactly why I started feeling cramps after I drank about 1 L of water at the M1 water point - it was so warm and the ice water tasted soooo good - but when the cramps came just before Kyalami, I realised that it was all the water that I took in . Luckily I had more than half a bottle of Cyto Power left in my one bottle and that really saved me from the cramps - the Cyto power really works well for that purpose.
  2. The cramps slowed me down at the end - will definitely have to get something to assist me and reduce the cramps. All my longer solo workout rides of approximately 100km's usually only include about 1000m of climbing, but the extra few hundred meters of the 947 pushed me above my usual more familiar levels
  3. Exactly - a complete change in vibe also
  4. It probably depends from which side you look at it? From a late start group in the 94,7 km ride (GG) it did present some mild chaos at certain points towards the end. I realised something was different and that I had to be more awake after going down Woodmead drive and approached Kyalami. There was a sudden increase in riders and a-lot of them going very slowly and without much consideration for fellow cyclists. At first I thought how it was possible for the majority of this new bunch to have been in earlier start groups because they were going so slow and all over the road, but then I realised that I got to the merge and saw the different coloured race numbers - Down Summit road I saw cyclists who would simply stop and get off their bikes in the middle of the road to have a rest and drink some water ( obviously not able to cycle and drink simultaneously?) Some even blocking the road while having a "kuiertjie" - while others like myself wanted to ride and get to the finish line. Personally I did not like the idea of the merge that much, but it will not be an event killer for me, I will just need to make a plan to get an earlier start time and therefore miss the 40km'ers
  5. I thought that's what the fork tops are for?
  6. I saw 'n cycling glove and a helmet on the road yesterday - was still wondering how one loses a glove and a helmet?
  7. I noted that according to Racetec my start group was wrong, it showed EE and not GG. Sent them a mail to query and when I logged back in just now I see it shows correct and my time also changed from 4:28 to 4:24 - a 2 minute improvement over my previous 947
  8. All good! Wasn't sure if I was going to ride because I picked up someone's bug on my Monday flight back from Tel Aviv, but my wife doctored me well during the week and this morning I only had a very mild cough with some sinus congestion (which is worse now) But decided that I felt good enough to go and ride, but still to take it easy and safe. Stopped at every 2nd water point for some refill and also stopped for a few photo's to send to my supporters via whatsapp Just before Kyalami I started to cramp very badly in both legs but I stayed on the bike and kept on riding ( I think it is from all the water I drank at the water points). Just over the finish line I saw my wife and 2 terrorist sons and waved for the video shot - all done in 4:28. It was a tough ride, and the wind also didn't play along well, and along with the GG start time heat I did suffer a bit - but the pleasure of suffering with thousands alongside me was awesome! and I will do it again!
  9. Nou Ja Toe! My wiele is gepomp en my ketting gegrease! Sien julle daar! Ek is die ou met die rooi hemp
  10. Rain the previous night with weather like we have today ...
  11. So I was in Israel for a few days until yesterday and my opinion of e-bikes have changed, especially with regard to personal transport and the use of e-bikes to commute. Tel Aviv is buzzing with e-bikes and it seems to have become the norm and best alternative for inner city transport as opposed to motor cars and scooters. The foldable versions seems to be even more popular because they can be taken on the trains for those who need to travel longer distances.
  12. It's not so much about them supporting me, but more about them to experience it from a different point and to also haver some fun?
  13. We are from behind the boerewors curtain and do not know the applicable areas that well. Wifi will have to park somewhere and get an easy acces spot. Any suggestions will be much welcomed.
  14. My Son is 7yrs old and his 16" bike which he got for Xmas last year became way to small towards the end of this year. I just ordered him a 24" for Xmas and decided to skip the 20" size. He's best friend from grade 1's dad (also my cycling buddy) did the same and bought a 24" to upgrade the 16" He is probably going to struggle a bit in the beginning (first month) but they grow so fast that I believe the 24" will be a perfect fit very soon. 15. I was wondering if anyone knows how spectators / supporters should approach the event - for example if my wife wants to find 1 or 2 places where she could easily get to and easily spot me and even perhaps pass me a nice ice cold bottle? Where would 2 ideal places be and will access be easy difficult?
  16. I am in Egypt and Israel for 2 weeks and want to order something from the Farr online shop to be delivered to SA for when I come back (a welcome back gift ) , but the site automatically loads an international version with USD prices and not all items.
  17. Solid and fast - point the bike and go type of rubber.
  18. Carbon Rigid Forks
  19. YEAH! Momsen bring it on! I really enjoy mine. PS. with the addition of the Farr Dot's my GP300 now feels complete
  20. I ride mine 4hrs + no problems
  21. YEAH!!!
  22. Is jy 'n Voortrekker?
  23. Ok, so what would you guys suggest be the best way to Hydrate prior and during the event? Any Sports-drink with sufficient Electrolytes and Sodium?
  24. I really hope for some mercy on the day and that we will get some cooler weather. If the kinda heat of the past few days are to be present, then us late starters are going to be in for some serious de-hydration and sweat. Remember to drink loads of fluids!
