  1. This incident just confirms again that I should always be very careful and aware when cycling on the road and never assume that all drivers of motor vehicles consider or care about me on my bicycle. Always expect the worst and be prepared for what would happen if an approaching vehicle looses slight control or even ride close to me deliberately to make a stupid point. It doesn't matter what is right or wrong, because mistakes will happen en laws will be broken, what firstly matters is my safety and the safety of others. Experience in driving a car or in cycling always includes awareness of what could go wrong and what mistakes the other person could potentially make and being prepared for such. For example, when riding over a green light, one should not assume that it is always completely safe to do so, I always slow down and look out just in case there is some reckless driver coming from the other direction. You have to always think for the other driver and be prepare for his potential mistakes! I hope we all learn from this and ride more aware and always think about the worst scenario, because accidents will happen and people will make mistakes and loose control.
  2. My poor neck much better....
  3. Maybe you are not very aerodynamic?
  4. Yes this is becoming a common occurrence around here? My Sigma Rox also came loose and fell off at one of the water points at 947. I think someone bumped it (crowded) but luckily I noticed it was gone after filling up with cold water and when I searched for it I saw it underneath a table. LUCKY!
  5. When are the start group allocations made known?
  6. Tubeless is a learning process indeed. Previously running tubeless on my MTB was something I had to learn how to prep and fit and seal the wheels. Now I can do it quickly. I thought the same processes would apply when I went tubeless on my gravel bike, but it was a new learning process especially because of the higher pressures as opposed to MTB wheels. It is easy to run tubeless om 2 bar wheels, but when you run it on 4 bar or higher pressure wheels then different challenges present themselves. Unfortunately I cannot comment on the road bike wheels and running tubeless, but I guess the higher pressures also present some different getting used to methods. Luckily once you understand your wheels and how to make them work and keep working tubeless, then the tubeless route becomes a no brainer and it is hard to go back to tubes. On the 947 I noticed many people next to the road fixing wheels and fitting new tubes, lucky I wasn't one of them - But when I got home I noticed sealant that sprayed against my seatpost - After inspection of the rear wheel I was able to find 2 places where sealant was excreted and found the small holes - luckily sealed fine and the wheel still had good pressure ...
  7. So I just need to bring it to everyone's attention that these Farr-out guys really care about their clients and gives amazing client service and after sales support! Thank you Farrnus for the extremely quick responses and action during this week, and for making me a very very happy and satisfied FARR customer! I don't think I have ever experienced such quick response and support anywhere with any online supplier that I use - THANKS !!!
  8. I just pulled the trigger and entered for the 2020 Cape Town Cycle Tour My parents live in Somerset West and father in Law in Darling, so accommodation is sorted. Wife and kids are coming along to see ouma & oupa's - so we are excited about our CPT trip. We plan to drive down on Thursday 5 March and arrive in Somerset West on the Friday, stay over there and then spend the Sunday and Monday nights in Darling before driving back to Gauteng.
  9. Exactly why I started feeling cramps after I drank about 1 L of water at the M1 water point - it was so warm and the ice water tasted soooo good - but when the cramps came just before Kyalami, I realised that it was all the water that I took in . Luckily I had more than half a bottle of Cyto Power left in my one bottle and that really saved me from the cramps - the Cyto power really works well for that purpose.
  10. The cramps slowed me down at the end - will definitely have to get something to assist me and reduce the cramps. All my longer solo workout rides of approximately 100km's usually only include about 1000m of climbing, but the extra few hundred meters of the 947 pushed me above my usual more familiar levels
  11. Exactly - a complete change in vibe also
  12. It probably depends from which side you look at it? From a late start group in the 94,7 km ride (GG) it did present some mild chaos at certain points towards the end. I realised something was different and that I had to be more awake after going down Woodmead drive and approached Kyalami. There was a sudden increase in riders and a-lot of them going very slowly and without much consideration for fellow cyclists. At first I thought how it was possible for the majority of this new bunch to have been in earlier start groups because they were going so slow and all over the road, but then I realised that I got to the merge and saw the different coloured race numbers - Down Summit road I saw cyclists who would simply stop and get off their bikes in the middle of the road to have a rest and drink some water ( obviously not able to cycle and drink simultaneously?) Some even blocking the road while having a "kuiertjie" - while others like myself wanted to ride and get to the finish line. Personally I did not like the idea of the merge that much, but it will not be an event killer for me, I will just need to make a plan to get an earlier start time and therefore miss the 40km'ers
  13. I thought that's what the fork tops are for?
  14. I saw 'n cycling glove and a helmet on the road yesterday - was still wondering how one loses a glove and a helmet?
  15. I noted that according to Racetec my start group was wrong, it showed EE and not GG. Sent them a mail to query and when I logged back in just now I see it shows correct and my time also changed from 4:28 to 4:24 - a 2 minute improvement over my previous 947
  16. All good! Wasn't sure if I was going to ride because I picked up someone's bug on my Monday flight back from Tel Aviv, but my wife doctored me well during the week and this morning I only had a very mild cough with some sinus congestion (which is worse now) But decided that I felt good enough to go and ride, but still to take it easy and safe. Stopped at every 2nd water point for some refill and also stopped for a few photo's to send to my supporters via whatsapp Just before Kyalami I started to cramp very badly in both legs but I stayed on the bike and kept on riding ( I think it is from all the water I drank at the water points). Just over the finish line I saw my wife and 2 terrorist sons and waved for the video shot - all done in 4:28. It was a tough ride, and the wind also didn't play along well, and along with the GG start time heat I did suffer a bit - but the pleasure of suffering with thousands alongside me was awesome! and I will do it again!
  17. Nou Ja Toe! My wiele is gepomp en my ketting gegrease! Sien julle daar! Ek is die ou met die rooi hemp
  18. Rain the previous night with weather like we have today ...
  19. So I was in Israel for a few days until yesterday and my opinion of e-bikes have changed, especially with regard to personal transport and the use of e-bikes to commute. Tel Aviv is buzzing with e-bikes and it seems to have become the norm and best alternative for inner city transport as opposed to motor cars and scooters. The foldable versions seems to be even more popular because they can be taken on the trains for those who need to travel longer distances.
  20. Because it is a 2018 Model it seems to be going for a very good price! If 20" is your size and if it ticks the boxes then you know you want it! That SLX 2 x 11 will give you good service - I say do it! I recently bought a nicely discounted new 2018 bike from Bike-Addict and it was such a good decision and I am not looking back.
  21. Next Sunday our turn. Glad you guys enjoyed it!
  22. It's not so much about them supporting me, but more about them to experience it from a different point and to also haver some fun?
