  1. Thanks mate will try that immediately, i'm sure that with the shortened chain will do fine.
  2. I could get a new FD and two blade shifter, but I'm trying to get away with not getting them if possible. I am hoping its not entirely necessary otherwise its just cheaper for me to sling the outer blade back on and ignore it. The two blade system gives me much better clearance for those technical bits.
  3. Just removed the outside large blade on my MTB crank and am hoping I don't also need to change my FD. I'm mostly in the middle ring but occasionally down on the inner. On a couple of changes the chain popped off over the middle ring when changing from the inner. Is there any adjustment that I can make to the FD settings to ensure this doesn't happen? Otherwise, If the three blade FD doesn't work so well, will a 10 X 2 FD work with a 9speed cassette and chain?
  4. Luckily they have a special earthquake insurance fund with quite a lot of cash in it thats being dolled out. Everyone pays earthquake tax.
  5. http://www.nzcycletrail.com/ cool idea and looks like its really well implemented...can you imagine the same project here
  6. When I got my new AmClassic wheelset i toyed with the idea of ceramic wheel bearings, AMClassic said they had stopped selling them because they die too quickly. Got a set of KCNC ceramic jockey wheels for a present, could tel the difference until they got really muddy, then the steel bearings ran smoother.
  7. Holy crap, very cool but can you imagine trying to clean this thing!
  8. Trying to replace my inner and middle chainrings and would like to use the Middleburn stuff from the UK via chainreaction. i have been warned about chainbolt diameter between shimano and other chainrings. i have contacted Middleburn but haven't heard anything. Does anyone know if the Middleburn chainrings are compatible with Shimano? ...i'd be usrprised if they weren't seeing as they are replacement MTB chainrings for 8 and 9 speed systems.
  9. I'm not sure yet we'll see where all the contributors are from first.
  10. We've got R1900 so far. Not sure how much FC P2C is in for but thats not inlcuding his order yet.
  11. Ok so we're making progress, we just need a biggy to push us over the free delivery mark. Anyone else?
  12. looking to get a couple of bits and pieces which come to R600 from CRC, to avoid the shipping is there anyone else in JHB putting together an order in the near future?
  13. If I'm not heading uphill then i'm heading downhill on fairly tight single track so i've never needed the big blade, every now and then on the road but i'm trying hard to avoid tar. Agreed, the addition of the bashring seems to defeat the point of weight saving and trying to add clearance to the bike. I like the RD short chain bolt info - nice one schmoose
  14. Thanks MoreTrails, another question, can any chainrings (for 9speed chains) be used with the shimano BB? Both the chainrings i want and the crank arm is 4 bolt, its the crank arm that attaches to the BB so if that stays the same then I can use any chainring is that correct?
  15. Morning all, I am currently running an SLX 9speed triple crankset but never actually use the outer ring. the only marks on it are from being bashed during riding over obstacles. Is it possible to remove the outer chain ring and just run the middle and smaller ones. Would I need new crank arms? Ultimately I'd like to get a 24, 34 inner and middle ring and just run those as it would give more clearance and drop a little weight. Would this require new crank arms?
  16. Any ideas what these things are going to weigh?
  17. Hi all, I'm looking to buy a trail bike. My understanding is that a trail bike is more robust and designed to get some more abuse than an XC ride is for. Got an XC and would like a machine to throw around a bit whilst still being able to climb and agile enough for quick tight single track. any ideas?
  18. Just bought my first Fizik saddle and it has a small clip in the bottom for Fizik lights, bags etc. Does anyone know where in SA i can find these things.
  19. Everyone seems to have the opinion that alu doesn't fail it just cracks slowly, not so sure but i'm sure i'll find out the hard way... I'm hoping its not too catastrophic impaling me on something. I'm not sure what else I can do, i don't have another bike and they won't give me a new one until its broken properly. Until then i'll keep hitting it hard and hoping that it fails gently!
  20. So after spending 3 hours in two different bike shops today (the last one being where i brought the frame) stripping and rebuilding the bb and headset and checking every mm...all seem to agree that the frame has some defect in the headtube weld but as yet it has not shown in a visible crack. The guy who sold me the bike is happy that it will be replaced under warranty but only once the crack is actually visible...until then he said ride it and keep checking and hopefully it'll show sooner rather than later... guess i'll just have to live with the very irritating noise until then. Thanks all for your advise.
  21. I will be doing that tomorrow. Sent Omnico a quick email but not heard anything back yet. it'll be a phone call tomorrow and taking it to the shop. I hate breaking frames, its such a pain in the arse and takes forever to get back on the bike.
  22. Since the noise was coming mostly from the BB crank area, they stripped and serviced the BB, plus the 'faced' it which means they re-aligned the BB tube. Then they checked the pedals and cleats, then the headset. the noise is definately coming from the down tube its hard to tell exaclty where as it obviously resonates up or down the tube and it is a very abrupt cracking/creaking noise. I'm going to check the watercage bolts this evening and then who knows, taking it back to the original purchase shop.
  23. he's actually very accomodating considering I spend hours on his back throwing down hills and him into trees. pretty sporting i'd say. i wish he'd be quieter though.
  24. I brought the frame seperately so its bound to be something else. I'm going to take it back to the shop where i brought the frame tomorrow and then we'll see...you're right if it is the frame then they need to fix it it sounds like i'm riding an old man.
