  1. Cool thanks. I thought this might be the consensus. I can actually afford to drop 5kg around the belly. I'll report back in 2 months :-)
  2. Question to the other guys out there on 29ers: Do you struggle with your gearing when the climbs get really steep? I.e., is your granny some times not enough? I'm running a 24T at the front and a 36T at the back, which I'm quessing is the standard 29er gearing for granny. Will it help if I change my 24T at the front to a 22T? I'm running Shimano SLX 10spd, so can I just replace my small front chainring with a new one, or are there specific 9 and 10spd rings? Will this 22T chainring from CWC (My link) work with my 10spd SLX crank? Thanks
  3. I think you need three more question marks in the topic. That will get you up to an even ten, and properly convey that the sentence is a question even though the structure does not.
  4. Thanks, will call around to see who can help me.
  5. Okay so where do you go to measure your sit-bones? Can you buy that Specialized traceing-paper thing anywhere? I can't go on with my current saddle, I need something new. Does anybody know who stocks WTB saddles in the Capetown area?
  6. I wanna see pictures of "The biggest cyclist in the world"

    Stellies!
  9. I always punctured the rear, so your nervousness was justified.
  10. I had then on my Giant XTC 29er. Can you say "puncture-fest"? They are very light though...
  11. While filming the scene for Transformers 3, one of the cables pulling the car snapped and hit a woman against the head, causing permanent brain damage and paralyzing her. The effects guys did quite a good job of reusing the original footage from The Island.
  12. There's a good reason for it
  13. Well, financially it makes sense. So I will renew again.
  14. I recently helped a friend to buy a new bike, and we settled on a Ventura. Great bike, and great spec. It was R7500 at Gecko cycles, and included a tubeless conversion. That's pretty good value if you ask me. Cheaper than all the Merida and Scott options, and with better specs!
  15. If you're willing to fly me up I won't charge that much
  16. Bike speed in meters per second = 8.3 m/s (30km/h) Car speed in meters per second = 33.3m/s (120km/h) v = final velocity (m/s) u = initial velocity (m/s) a = acceleration (m.s^(-2)) x = distance (meters) Calculate (de-)acceleration of car, assuming it can come to a dead stop in 80 meters (assume constant (de-)acceleration): v^2 = u^2 + 2ax 0^2 = 33.3^2 + 2*a*80 a = -6.935m.s^(-2) Now calculate the distance the car covers when braking from 120km/h until it reaches 30km/h: v^2 = u^2 + 2*a*x 8.3^2 = 33.3^2 + 2*(-6.935)*x x = 74.98m This means that the car is driving at the same speed as the bike after 74.98 meters. Now calculate how long it took the car to cover the 74.98m: x = ((u+v)/2) t 74.98 = ((33.3+8.3)/2) t t = 3.6s Now calculate the distance the bike covers in 3.6 seconds: x = 8.3*3.6 x = 29.88m This means by the time the bike and car are travelling at the same speed, the bike is still 4.9m ahead of the car.
  17. Can this be true? My link
  18. This sucks... do you think entries (60k) will sell out before 1 July?
  19. You could win a pair of fancy shoes from some cycling magazine with that tip

  22. Silverback Segma - R15k (or so other people have said) http://silverbacklab.com/2011/segma.jpg I have the Giant XTC 29er. Can't go wrong.
  23. I think go for the latter
