  1. Anyone have ideas on running a double chain ring + bash guard + 9 speed casette. What ratios would you choose to get a similar range to a standard 3x9 setup?
  2. I've lusting for an All-Mountain longer travel frame for a while, and I've always had a thing for steel frames. It also looks like August will be a very good month, so I should reward myself. Enter the On-One Inbred 456. Would it be a worthwhile upgrade from the 'Goose? My thinking is to build it over as is, maybe with a new crankset. Then later on get a nice wheelset to complete the bike. So what can I expect from this frame? What is the difference between the Summer edition and the normal one? Also, what size should I got for? The 'Goose is a Medium, 17". The Inbred comes in 16" and 18". I'm tempted to go for for the smaller frame for chuckability. Thoughts? Ideas? Advice? Does anyone have one of these?
  3. It's like mountain biking, just without the training wheel! I wish I could claim ownership of that one, but it was actually Alan that nailed me with it. One Sunday on a Trials ride, when I was giving him crap about riding a circus bike, he told me to get rid of my training wheel.
  4. Stop drinking the cheap crap! I think a case of Erdinger will fit nicely. Once the beers are installed' date=' it'll be ready to do Breedtsnek! [/quote'] wonder if there's a spec category for beer bikes! Winner is the guy with the least beers left at the bottom?

  6. Just use the Spruit! I used to ride it every morning at around that time. When I did the pavement hopping thing I had a route that took me through blocked-off suburbs and roads with wide pavements, which made it easy to avoid the pedestrians.
  7. Interesting, thanks Treb. I don't really want to try other bars, since I just got these, but I'll see if I can find the time to go stem shopping tomorrow. I've already got about 3 unused stems in the garage, guess another won't hurt!
  8. Pffft. Just buy a new one every week, much easier than cleaning the thing.
  9. Just a few points: 1. It's a fuel tank for a sex machine, not a boep 2. It happens mostly when I pull up on the bars, which leads me to: 3. Maybe just I don't know my own strength.
  10. The what? Pic please! Was looking at them, also Thomson's 4X stem would work nicely, although even on CRC it's too expensive. Questions is: Will a 4-bolt stem reduce the flex?
  11. Thanks for the suggestion, although I forgot to add that we use ~100mm stems. Looks like Truvativ make some nice ones with a wide, 4-bolt clamp. Will need to see if I can get one.
  12. I've got 750mm wide riser bars on the Trials bike, which give awesome control, but there's an issue: the bars flex a little, and often when I pull up on them, there's a clicking sound. This scares me a bit, especially when I'm about to jump up or down something. I think the sound is coming from the stem/handlebar flex situation. The stem is a 2-bolt, with the bolts in the middle. Would a 4-bolt stem make a difference? Does one get stems that have a very wide clamp, maybe even 6-bolt?
  13. Hahahaha! That's funny! Fixie riders trying to be cool! Best was the wall ride and the shove-your-foot-in-the-fork endo.
  14. Ouch, that's a costly one, at least it seems you're taking it in good spirits. When stuff breaks, I see it as a great excuse to upgrade, so check out CWC, they have good prices on XT at the moment.

Pfffft! Go sniff your lycra, roadies! Lock, someone was selling KHS entry level bikes at a very good price. Other than that, go visit a few bike shops, get the make and models of the bikes you like and post them here. We'll give feedback etc. Another good starting point is the bicycling website's bike buyers guide. I bought a Mongoose Meteore Comp as my first bike. I still have it, upgraded the fork though, but after over 2 years the bike is still solid.

    Suntour

My first Suntour lasted about a year. The second one lasted about 3 months. Can't recommend them, and I doubt I'll ever use one again.

I was actually just kidding. Who am I to tell someone not to get into road cycling? I've never tried it (because it's gay) so I can't really. If you want to see if she'll like MTB, why not take a trip to the Bryanston Bike Park, hire some bikes, and ride for a day. Maybe she'll like it. Hell, I'll even show you guys around if I'm available. Groenkloof would be even better, although the rocky sections may scare her. I think buying a used road bike will be less risky than a MTB, just be sure to inspect the drive train closely because that will cost you if it needs replacing. Also make sure you get the right sized bikes. Go visit a few bike shops to see what there is, maybe you'll even stumble upon a good special or 2.

    Mountain bikes!
  19. But what's wrong with your current cables? 1. How much lighter can a cable really get? 2. How much stronger can it really be?
  20. Great work! The gap jump looks huge!
  21. For the weight weenies: The Zoo bike as in the picture weighs less than 10kg, even though the back tyre alone is almost 1kg, and the frame is reenforced to handle BIG drops. I still find them ugly, so I won't be rushing off to buy one any time soon.
  22. Nope! Looks like a Zoo or Echo. So ugly it's beautiful!
  23. I don't think it's Danny - he rides a 24" stock bike, the one in the pic is a 26" mod.
