  1. 1) Fair enough, it is, but that does not mean you have to partake. 2) I never assumed anything, read my post, I said "had you stopped" which implies exactly that, an unknown. 3)Thats fine, but I never saw it, and as far as I can see no one else here did either, I also see no evidence here to substantiate your accusation, so from my point of view you are acting as judge, jury and executioner on a public platform without giving the other the right of recourse, thats not in the spirit of fair play. Dont misunderstand my post though, I am not justifying littering, I simply cannot justify denigrating another person on a public platform without showing any significant proof of the accusation.
  2. Yah, form wise I think its very attractive, I would far rather have that standing in my living room than a chunky stationary bike anyway. As to effectiveness, well I dont see any reason why it should not be, although I doubt its designed for competitive cyclists to train on, its more designed to be a light workout for the family, and I think it probably serves that purpose very well.
  3. I think this thread is wrong. All I see is someone pointing an accusing finger at two cyclists without a shred of evidence to prove his point, and without giving them any opportunity of recourse or reply. You cannot act as Policeman, Judge and Jury, and denigrating someone on a public platform without showing equal and conclusive proof is poor form. Right now its only your word, and although I have no reason to disbelieve you, I have no reason to believe you either. I am not sure that this is in the spirit of the forum, and I see it opening up all forms of abuse. Perhaps, had you said you stopped and picked up the paper before riding on, that would have lent credence and weight to your argument as a positive act against littering, but right now, to me it just comes across as someone with an axe to grind against two (as far as I can ascertain) innocent cyclists.
  4. I agree, people will continue to text and drive, thats just the way it is, at least be proactive and make a space available to stop. I like it and I think it will work. Wonder if its in other states as well.?
  5. Thats a darn nice photo, you are very talented Wyatt, you should make up a collage of prints and ask if you can display it in one of the malls around JHB, or even at Oliver Tambo somewhere, I think it would be a lovely attraction.
  6. Yah, some great refurbishments going on too, I saw a penthouse advertised recently in an old refurbished building near the Nelson Mandela bridge was up for sale for 5 bar, they had a sort of bridge above the streets which you had exclusive access to which took you to your own private sun deck.
  7. Not to derail the thread, but who could forget swimming at the old indoor heated swimming pool in hillbrow, you had to walk down about 200 stairs it was so far underground and was heated by running the water through pipes heated by huge coal powered furnaces, it was an Olympic size and was heated to around 30 degrees years round, cost a princely R2.00 to get in. Later it went up to R5.00. After a swim we would go have coffee and the best cake at one of the coffee lounges around (think thick heavy chairs and lots of newspapers, magazines and waiters in formal black and white outfits) and then go for a lamb Schwarma with all the best trimmings at Mi Va Mi in the main street, they were open 24 hours a day and were packed solid for all 24 hours, then a few hours at Estoril books and home. JHB is a great SA city, always has been and always will be, and for me anyway, arguably the best African city ever.
  8. I drive around JHB a lot, theres lots of really excellent Graffiti, bottom of End street, there is also some and I saw the other day some really good stuff on the walls outside Wits, although that may have been professional. Jhb city has almost become like NY of old, street artists everywhere, some of them D**n good.
  9. Thats a really nice picture, that area is normally very busy, where is everyone.? .........or did you shoo them all away.?
  10. Yeah, I agree, pretty sure Cav would have appealed if the shoe were on the other foot.
  11. I thought it was borderline "back of the pack disqualification" interference, he definitely and intentionally closed Viviani's line. ..........but Tour of Britain..........aint never gonna disqualify Cav.!
  12. DHL contrary to popular belief is an excellent forwarder, they deal with literally millions and millions of parcels daily, they are one of the worlds giants, but, like anything they can only work with what they have. Its vital to make sure your paperwork is correct and you have contactable addresses and telephone number clearly visible on the waybills.
  13. Yah, I hear you, big companies, thousands of workers, very strict policies, no one will risk their butt getting kicked, its unfortunately normal, I reckon you need to go make a personal visit, sometimes just seeing the person face to face sorts out many issues, impersonal methods over e-mail etc leaves too much room for "dumbing down."
  14. Yah, bureaucracy at its best. ...but one also needs to realize not everyone is honest, so they need to have systems in place to limit crime, I know its a ball ache but lets just say someone decided to call them, said they were XYZ and please send my parcel here not there, .... and they accepted the change of address without question, .....you would no doubt be a little peeved. Unfortunately, the small criminal element make it difficult for everybody, so its a process, I think you will get it, you may just have to go fetch it yourself and work it through with them face to face.
  15. Yes, I would say its the screening and security surcharges. 9/11 changed the world in more ways than we realize.!
  16. You mean from the USA to SA.? or the UK.? ..........but in general, unless you are registered as a "Known shipper" with USA customs, the USA has very high security and screening surcharges which are applied to all parcels entering and leaving the country, and the courier has to pay these costs up front, so naturally they pass those costs (with a profit margin) along to you in their tariff. Probably this is what is increasing the cost exponentially, the only way to get around it is to register as a known shipper with your forwarder and USA customs, you still pay the fee, but its much less.
  17. Thats the issue with any courier, they cant deliver to a box, so the parcel goes into recovery. This means they will (maybe) try and find you by other particulars on the waybill, but if not the goods will lie around for a few weeks and then go to the state warehouse for unclaimed parcels. When using any courier, never use a P.O.Box address anywhere in your waybill, billing or physical, understandably it creates massive issues, especially with an international courier.
  18. Yah, couriers cant deliver to a P.O.Box, only the post office can do that. Seems only the delivery side is an issue, tell them you will collect at their JHB depot. Just take proof of your P.O.Box and a cross reference like your ID.
  19. Probably not, he will have to wing it on his own if he goes for it I guess.
  20. Yah, I guess Quintana will try something but I dont know if its long enough, Danny Martin for the win is my pick.
  21. Danny Martin is the only one animating the racing in my opinion, Quintana tried a little attack, but it was so far out I dont know what he was thinking. SKY, as usual just maintain a tempo and bulldoze the racing, it may be effective, but it ruins the TV viewing.
  22. Yes, its excellent, on History channel. I have sort of seen it, but I didnt really watch, thanks I'll keep an eye out.
  23. My new interest is the "World War 11" and "Vietnam" - Lost Files. Its where they have taken old lost movies made in the wars, digitally enhanced them with colour etc and are now showing them as a series. All of it absolutely real and true, never been shown before and they change nothing, the images are 100% real. Then they try and find some of the soldiers in the movie and show it to them for their comments. They had the taking of Hamburger Hill in Vietnam on last night, it was riveting stuff, anyone who thought that was an easy war would do well to watch this show. The mortars exploding, the machine guns rattling, the bodies in the mud, soldiers running up the hill to a certain death, the Huey's hovering in tight formation to pick up the dead and injured......I could almost smell the cordite. They then interviewed one of the commanders - he just broke down and cried. - Heartbreaking. One never really recovers from that.
  24. At 7am those roads are exceptionally busy, I mean two lane bumper to bumper busy, I think it will require some hair on your teeth as well as a few lights to negotiate that lot at 7 am, and much the same on the way back if you anticipate leaving between 4.30 pm and 5.30 pm. I am really not trying to put you off, but I would try and leave earlier or later, commuting on those roads during peak hour is going to be daunting.
  25. Yeah, I like Wiggins, I think he gets an unnecessarily bad rap in the world media unfortunately, but he is still one of the all time class act's. This kind of tour is dead suited to him, the climbs are not too severe and he can easily hang on, unless he crashes or something awful, he will be difficult to beat.
