  1. The joys of tapering. Just do a quick 5km run and it will go away.......
  2. More fun, try use all those words in one sentence: I was in a catch 22, after the I won the Kerk Bazaar 50km race on my ten speed, I either had to admit to blood doping or be charged with sexual harassment of the podium girl....
  3. That was just before the pterodactyl flew in through the window and bit his fingers off......
  4. First rule of duathlon: There is no such thing as a fun duathlon. Second rule of duathlon: Short duathlons are sprint duathlons (go far or go fast) Third rule of duathlon: transition matters. First principle: Equipment counts.
  5. Duathlon is actually, run, cycle, crawl....... If you do not feel like you have lead boots on and look like a frog in a liquidizer on the last run, then you did not push hard enough on the bike. However, a quick hit, on the last km before the transition, ride lighter gears and spin the legs a bit. Also on the first 500 meters of the crawl, use a short pace and increased cadence to get the legs going. Lastly, remember the transition is also a timed part of the race, proper transition can score you a place or two and move you closer to a "rabbit" to chase to the finish.....
  6. The British Royal Family is now more BEE compliant that Super Sport........
  7. And that is why so many people are opting for portable apps these days.......

Slugs of War, I have not hear of them for ages. My brother did a gig with them at Cool Runnings in Wonderboom, playing the bagpipes.
  13. Sounds like a Lance Armstrong Advert...
  14. When I started cycling the rule of thumb as "the cost of ownership is 50%" which meant that as soon as the bike left the bikeshop it lost 50% of its retail price. With this in mind, I can understand why selling on the classified would be sluggish. It you are not selling a specific thing that is satisfying a niche demand of a buyer, then the cost of ownership rule applies. In the end the buyer beware. The buyer is taking a risk that the second hand item is in good/bad condition and this is translated/quantified into the difference between second hand price and new price.
  15. Moving on now, is anyone else running Rhodes?
  16. As dodgy as a Abdul the second-hand virgin salesman....
  17. Trail running beats Mtb because it is hard to carry a bicycle up climbs.....
  18. If everyone went from the departure point of the sanctity of life, and the value of human life things would be easier from the start. Yes people do silly things and have suicidal tendencies, but that does not mean we have to be idiots and help them achieve an early departure. It is easy to be bravado about being the "king of the road" until you are involved in a fatal collision with a runner or cyclist. That is an instant culpable homicide case, and you will go to the grave knowing that your negligence resulted in a death. I am sure only a psychopath will be able to sleep with that on their conscious.
  19. One of the greatest fears I have when training or watching people training are motorcars. I die a hundred times everytime I see a runner running along a motorway or on a busy road. I know that it is not always possible to run in leafy suburbs or on level pavements, but surely for our own safety we could plan our routes with a bit more care to include quieter roads than a motorway? (Considering the carbon monoxide poisoning as well).
  20. Did I mention that Magnolia is the best club ever. It is so good that Donald Trump wishes he could join it (It is so good that it has declined his membership new that he is the Pres), Magnolia Club house is situated in the leafy suburb of Brooklyn on the foot of Klapperkop (Hills), in the valley opposite the Austin Roberts Bird Park, near Brooklyn Mall and next to Crawdaddies..... It has a club run every Sunday which accommodates both the slower runner with a 10km distance and the serious ultra runner with distances of 16km (Jan) to 25km (May). ps Anyone may join in start in winter is 0630 and the nominal fee for snacks and refreshments is R20. It also hosts a Big C run in April (40km) and is the organising sponsor for the McCarthy Half Marathon. Club meets on Tuesday's from 5pm. There is normally a social group doing a short run, and once a month a 7km time trail. Club tent at most races with discounted refreshments (honour system), and on the distances more than 32km+ this discount is 100%.

  23. Have you seen the pics of Cyril's Oxen in the latest Getaway magazine? They are covet worthy....(I think this is why Supra gave Zuma the R1.4 million worth of cattle. (To make him feel wanted again....) The bromance was strong
  24. I cannot resist the old Irish joke about Paddy who was running down the middle of the road, and asked why, he said that the instructions on the soup packet said "tear along the dotted line"
  25. "Then I believe it will be time to start a 3 week taper to race day. Each runner will know how much to cut back but as an example I used to slash about a quarter or third of my training load off each week. I used to run 10 weeks of 160-200 kilometres a week, then I would cut that to 120 kilometres for the first week of my taper and then run 80 kilometres in the second week. At the same time I sharpened up by running some faster quality, track, hill and time trial sessions. This helped to bring me to a racing peak on race day." I think Bruce is a different type of machine. Peaking at 200km a week is like over 25km a day. His first taper is what I would dream of in my worst peak (120km), his second taper is my peak (80km). To add insult in injury he then does "sharpening" at this time. For me I think I will peak at 100km a week, and taper to 60km and 40km respectively and sharpen on TT and hills only.....(but then I only run marathons and 50km races and not the big C) :w00t: :w00t:
