  1. hahahaha - was disagreeing with this quote Reality is, this section (SECTOR 2) is where it was won or lost as nothing downstream offered sufficient make-up opportunity, and the top section held some reward, but at higher risk." As we can see Greg was up at the top - down in the middle (although only by a bit) and up again at the bottom. Although Graves came out of nowhere after the top - physical power mainly, but some bike weight ... as Gregs V10 bike weighs 14.9kg compared Jareds SB-66c which was about 13kg with the 180mm fork. It was therefore won on the top and bottom this year again as Greg made up enough time in the top to stay in touch after the pedal and then pull back time on the tiring Hannah and Graves in the bottom after they had pushed too hard in the middle
  2. Graves actually said to me that he went back to High Roller II DH tyres as he felt they gave him the best grip in the dry, dusty, slippery track conditions. So no (as Skandalis says) ... he was not on super light weight tyres - Matt Simmonds however ran a semislick front and back! - Brave man!
  3. Eldron ... send me co-ords of your property and i will try and mash something up on Google Earth for you
  4. guys - here is what you add in to your track somewhere - and remember this would be for XC bikes ... SO Build them correctly for wheel size and seat height .... (then add 2 more sets aside just to play on.. http://www.imba.com/sites/default/files/images/resourcesfreeriding/jumppark_2.jpg http://www.imba.com/sites/default/files/images/resourcesfreeriding/jumppark_1.jpg
  5. hahaha - Wayne ... Unfortunately I dont have a trail building company like Nick does - I am a Geologist who builds DH tracks in his spare time ... So thanks for the offer - but the man to speak to would be Nick!
  6. Regarding Nicks Course ..... I chatted to him about his A / B and then C line lengths etc. after the Masters race. He said the "magic" number he has found is 8 seconds for a C line as then a lot of riders will try the A or B line. I sort of disagree with this as I personally think it then makes the riders try stuff that may be beyond their ability. (as we saw at Masters Worlds).... If it had been me, (and bear in mind I build DH tracks where 1/2sec is a lot of time to loose) ... I would have shortened the C lines a bit .... Especially the one at Shakas Playground, and at the Corkscrew (also known as Over the Top). Id say at a Masters Level race you should not be penalised too much at a super gnarly section as, if you cant ride that obstacle (or are unsure about it), you will be slower in other less technical sections anyway compared to someone who is more proficient. But thats just my opinion. ... However the other side of the coin is then - you have the guys who SUCK at Tech doing well as they are just strong on climbs ... I must say its tough to set tracks up perfectly .... But i think Nick did a PERFECT Job.
  7. Tumbleweed, you could have just used your bike to ride in to the beer tent each day! hahahaha
  8. hahahahaha thats classic ...
  9. Im disagreeing with you! hahahaha http://brandontrew.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/i-strongly-disagree.jpg
  10. hahahhaa That would be Mr Kelsey would it not??? Yeah I wish we had that gradient, But then again, I think there is always a fine line between too steep and too shallow gradient. I honestly think that if the obstacles are right, and technical enough and the flow is there the track doesnt need to be too steep .... But gradient would really help as then you dont have to pedal! hahahaha
  11. nope - sorry i disagree It was consistency that won this race! As Shilton says! ... Greg was consistent the entire way down - having teh fastest 1st and 3rd sectors .... those who over spent themselves in Sector 2 suffered in sector 3 and that was that Big up to Graves though coming from nowhere on Sector 1 to 3rd by Split 2 at the end of Sector 2 .... I think he was the biggest gainer there
  12. As for the Build ... I will keep my Fork as SRAM hooked me up PROPERLY at Worlds .... I now have full 2014 internals in my forks (although the paint job is still 2011 ... thats easily rectified) Then they gave me a full X0 DH groupset (excluding cranks) So just a frame and shock will be perfect
  13. Awesome!!! - I'll chat to Jason again Have had Omnico send me a mail today about a GT ... will see what they have to offer too
  14. None actually - no cash prizes (unless i missed the memo)..... I think i'll ask Dellah tomorrow! Does anyone know if the XC guys won Cash????
  15. Right - so after having made up my mind about the Evil .... The lack of "service" in the email dept etc saw me waiting 8 weeks and not having a bike for Worlds .... Then i saw the bike in the flesh and wasnt really blown away. Also a rider said that they go through the bearings in the rocker arms quickly so i would need to ask for a replacement set when the bike gets sent out ... HMMMMM So then i got digging, and the following happened. .... 1. Yeti 303 came up - (ok not carbon ... but still) .... So I was keen but Dave Hogan swiped it in front of my eyes .... good luck as i have subsequently heard that that rail system is a pain to keep working. 2. A Trek Session came up but the dude wanted R80k for the bike ... UMMM NO! I'll buy a new one thanks 3. Last day of Worlds and I hear that Ryan Frerichs has hooked up a Trek Session 9.9 (no fork or back shock (i think) ... for like R22k .... So off i scuttle to the Trek tent as he says there are 2 left ... but alas Trek have packed up and left ..... 4. I then chat to Gabe Fox from Devinci and he says he will hook me up with a Wilson Carbon ... and to send him an email ... (this is done ... so lets see if he replies) ....... So what do you okes think??? 1. Go with the Evil and hope the pivots are ok? and that there are no other issues - service is crap here in SA 2. Get a Trek Session 9.9 from Trek SA (if Tom can source one - but this wont be a special deal) 3. Get a Devinci Wilson Carbon - I would have it sent out with the Devinci Team maybe in April when they come for the World Cup - that way i get the new 2014 model too 4. Get Omnico to hook me up with a new GT Fury????
  16. With regards to Mr Hill and his OTB What you dont see in that camera angle is the Rock Garden that you need to negotiate on that off-camber bank .... Its quite straight forward, but you have a 5foot step off onto a rock or 2 at the exit that is quite flat. As Sam dropped it he either clipped a pedal on a rock on the exit, or his back wheel cased the one largish rock on the landing. In either event it stopped the bikes momentum and pitched his weight forward and that was that. His feet were on the pedals right up until he went OTB. it was just weight distribution that caused the crash (and the fact that the front wheel pitched up a steep bank next to the signage and stalled sending him OTB
  17. maybe its all the mountain air and swiss cheese rather than seawater!
  18. For some stupid reason the Swiss Timing guys and TV forgot to ask me where to place the speed trap for the best (fastest) speeds .... I would have put it before the lip of the First Tabletop. .... but NO .... they go and put it well down in the cross section so that the speeds show 45km/h and not 80km/h .... USELESS Anyway - next year i will get it moved to the tables. Greg and the guys would have been up around 70 - 80km/h coming out of the Gully
  19. is it just my pc ... or does the video just end when they are at the airport??
  20. Actually ..... As he said in a couple of interviews - he tried his DH Bike at Fort William and hated it - he said he would have rather ridden the little bike there too as its what he is used to .... So its not really the track as much as what you are used to .... Ropelato said the same thing
  21. negatory!!! The Gravey Train was on 26ers .... He doesnt ride 650B. 1 Greg MINNAAR - 26er DH 2. Hannah - 26er DH 3 Jared Graves - 26er Enduro Bike (180mm travel) 4. Sam Blenkinsop - 650B DH Bike 5. Matt Simmonds - 26er DH 6. Nick Beer - Custom 650B Short travel (175mm) DH bike 7. Gee Atherton - 26er DH 8. Marcelo Guterez - 26er DH 9. Johannes Fischbach - 26er DH 10. Troy Brosnan - 26er DH
  22. guys im around all over the show so Please stop me and introduce yourself if you see me today or tomorrow
  23. To everyone on here and all those who were there supporting ... I really want to express my appreciation! It was absolutely amazing coming into the finish arena and having the crowd going absolutely mental!!! You cant really describe the feeling. And then ... when i finished to have had a perfect run, and hear the announcer say ... "He's gone fastest!" ... That was a dream come true ... as all i was hoping for was a medal! .... Then to watch as Tom came down having gone down in Cloud 9 .... and suddenly I was guaranteed a 2nd ... and i was like "WTF!! ... im in 2nd!!!" ....... and then the next moment to see the Frenchie (who ended up 2nd overall) with a flat crossing the line .... and I was like ....... SHlT .. I just WON!!!! ..... WOW!!!! So to everyone! Thanks again ..... If you are around over the next couple of days ... Please come and introduce yourselves ..... Cheers Nige
  24. No it was just me railing the corner before early and having FAR too much speed into those rocks ... And thinking ,,,, "F it .... Its worlds! DONT BRAKE!!!" .... and just sending the shlt out of that rock garden and nearly ending my life when i came up short and nosed onto a rock!
  25. there are a couple of guys on little bikes actually Mitch Ropelato (USA) is rocking his 29er Specialized Enduro ... and looking mighty fast on it i might add .... Jared on the SB66 Carbon with 180mm forks Then Stevie Smith and Nick Beer on specially designed 175mm/165mm travel rigs made by devinci and Dave Wegal, So lets see what happens
