  1. 6.45 better get some training in or I'm going to be clinging on!!!
  2. I should write a song about my super new diet, but nothing rhymes with "laxative"... Oh, well my age is past my waist size, so it's only the hills I worry about now...
  3. Initially I loathed the new bikes but actually really enjoy them now. My secret was to put the seat down and back like a road bike (to the point of having the seat clamp more than half out the back). I'm 1.88m anf find it's much more like a road ride than the old bikes. I can put the handlebars low enough to ride forward and also to not bump my knees then. Admittedly the one made a hideous noise when I made a resistance the other day and another guy showed me what happens when sweat gets on the flywheel i.e. no resistance at all. But then just use a sweat towel? Good luck!
  4. I guess it's all about everyone's safety in the end... the organisers need to (try) protect the people who aren't as fast or skillful. Is there a reason the top teams go off in the middle?
  5. Polls are only useful for those common occasions when people have a) foresight, B) insight, and c) hindsight...
  6. Howdy! I am Thor, God of Thundering Along, not Testikles, Lord of Seven or Eight Hour rides! But I am tempted... if I can get up the sponsorship for the liposuction and a decent, patient team I figure I could get to 7 hours. Knowing a little of what it takes to get to 5:30, I'm afraid I have to decline your early lunch...
  7. Can someone please explain what the "disqualification" issue is that is causing all the friction? Is it that the teams didn;t stop to eat or that they stopped and took on musettes? Logically it will take one amateur team taking out one serious team by doing something similar from a moving car, and all hell will break loose... just stop, surely? Or am I over-simplifying??
  8. Nice one!! Make s me want to "get up off the sofa" for a race longer than 4 hours...
  9. It's cos "drol" is just "lord" backwards... like the people themselves...
  10. Raspberry and Lime!! Not peach! And who wants to be Neutral!
  11. Cheers, thanks! Maybe I just got a dud batch or something. I've had at least 15 tubs already and this last one is markedly different. Even has little blackish/dark red spots of something in and also smells different. (and it was in the sealed plastic when I took it out 3 days ago). Still better than the other stuff, I suppose...
  12. Hi MDW, Have you guys changed your flavouring on the raspberry product and/or the other flavours? My latest tub has a very different flavour to all the others and I'm not that keen on the change. I really enjoy the previous flavour - this one seems to be very sweet and much more, for want of a better term, artificial?? Thanks
  13. Talk about a shock pump...
  14. The reason I ask is that it seems to me that a Big Bay swim followed by a 3 x 60km (or similar)cycle laps out in D'ville/West Coast area followed by a "downhill" marathon towards the mountain and the "Big finish" makes more sense if the field is limited in size?
  15. I hope this hasn't been previously answered but how many entries were received? I read something about 200? Or more?
  16. Hope I'm not being stupid but I can't find the online entry link to this race? Anyone know it, please?
  17. Hope you didn't try the first one and think "This oke is out of his mind!" They not all like that!
  18. It's the 1000's of songs I didn't put on here that also contribute... the likes of The Muffs, Rancid and Bad Religion through to old Savatage, Voivod, Prong and Celtic Frost. Hell, through in some Within Temptation for some angelic gothic stuff for the long, hard "uphills"! Diversity rocks!
  19. Wingers, Ringers, or Whingers?? PS: I have a bet on with myself with 50/50 odds that one of these days I'm going to come on here and hear that Slo-B has gone postal. The neighbours always say "But for years he's been so peaceful and sane."
  20. Is a lover of goody bags a tit for tat?
  21. Morning Mr Bee... Will we be getting a goodie bag for the Charity Ride? So we can give it to charity?
  22. I seem to be in the same position as you. I'm by no means a great rider but have done a few decent races here and there and have gone gone under 3 hours for some of the 100km races. My problem is that I hate trying to eat in a group on the road - keep feeling like I'm going to hit someone with my chronic bike balance issues - I normally just hydrate for 3 hours an all is reasonably well. At some point though I normally start feeling terrible... the biggest difference in how long that takes to happen is the amount of training rides I have done. Been a bit slack lately and I need to pull my socks up. But if I'm racing every weekend as in Jan/Feb, it's quite easy. I really think it's the conditioning of the body to perform and not the food intake that makes the biggest difference up to say 3-4 hours. Just eat a good breakfast I try to never use GU's though. They seem to lift and drop your blood sugar rather quickly. I prefer the 32GI type stuff which seems to work fine. And another huge difference is how you rest. Many of us ride and do gym and run and...and... and don't rest properly. Top athletes seem to work very hard, rest very hard. Wish I could! My own 2p...
  23. Two Arguses in length and almost 5 in accumulated elevation... nice morning's work!!
