  1. Hijack on: Do it yourself in less than your travelling time and the tools and oil will pay for the fuel. Few things as satisfying as gathering up the courage and then doing this yourself. Hijack off
  2. 10psi less, thus 20psi front and 25psi rear. Especially for muddy and slippery rides.
  3. It depends on tire volume, type of riding you do and type of terrain. Generally a large volume tire (don't be fooled by the size indicated on the tire, a 2.1 Saguaro propable has a larger volume than a 2.4 Mountain King for example) can be pumped lower pressures than a small volume tire. For the normal marathon riding we do in SA, I go for 30psi up front and 35psi in the rear (if both are the same tire of around 2.0in), but I know of guys running them up to 10psi each less. Oh, I weigh 80kg.
  4. I remember once taking my hand off the bar to press the aircon button. Took my a second or two to realize there isn't one after I couldn't find it.
  5. Jip. Plenty of replies to come from guys who did the Nissan Van Gaalens in Nov. Worst is that the rest of the day you remain a zombie. Funny that you recaal your pain, normally the next day all is forgotten and excitement for the next race starts.
  6. They are not glued. The latex based sealant hardened over time. That is normal, but that is why you need to replace the sealant regularly as it becomes a solid lated film on the entire tire internar area, thickest near the beads and can even form a ball. It becomes a problem when using Stans tape as the tire and tape can get "glued" together strongly and damaging the tape when trying to seperate them is a real concern. Doing this during a race is a b!tch. Can't go wrong with tubeless rims!
  7. The con of the price is far outweighed by the durability of these tires. I regularly run the Geax Barro Mountain up front and the Geax Saguaro and sometimes Geax Mescal (not used when riding very muddy or very rocky terrain)at the back. Where other tires are eaten up by tar or the likes in no time, these babies just last for ever. Think it is due to the different compounds rubber used on different sections of the tires. They are pretty light too due to the thinner, but armoured sidewalls. Never suffered a sidewall cut yet. Opening a can of worms, but in my opinion the Geax TNT tires outlasts Conti Mt King 4:1 and Maxxis Xmarks by at least 2:1. (I accept type of terrain has an influence on this)
  8. And 60% of Joburg's car sound and MAG shops
  9. Coffee in nose! It hurts onetime
  10. Bike industry no different than any other. You p@ss off one customer and you loose 10. You keep 100 happy and you may gain 1. Wrong mechanic on the wrong day. I had poor service from guys that never let me down before as well. Leaves a bad taste in the mouth. Everybody makes mistakes, it is how they react to your complain that shows their character. Looks like they reacted badly. Pitty.
  11. Great thread. Reminds me why I love the sport. Nothing beats good company and a great trail early on a perfect Summers morning, even in Guateng. Thanks
  12. We will do the Salmonsdam reserve ride for sure. It will push the hr up though, then there is the great ride up the mountain behind Hermanus all the way to behind Voelklip and back, the great ride into the Hemel and Aarde valley and beyond, the .....Even tried the Oak valley and various other trails near Grabouw? Endless singlerack boys! See you there.
  13. I officially have a new dream bike. Pitty this year's bonus goes towards filling the hole the current dream bike made a year ago!
  14. Will be in Hermanus during that period. Keen to check out the rides towards Gansbaai. Will also do the monster climb over the mountain into Salmonsdam reserve 20km inland from Stanford (The Epic crossed over there about 3 or 4 years ago).
  15. Thanks guys! Will try your advise today B-L. Used to service my Fox (a breaze), but still jittery to open up the SID. Will read up and do that next week.
  16. If I let all the air out top and bottom, the fork just depress completely unassistant. If i let all the air out the bottom only it does go to full travel potensial (0% travel). I did about 100hr with the fork and it has been like this from the start.
  17. My fairly new Rock shock SID does not depress to it's full travel. It is always at 10% travel without me on the bike. It is also very stiff. If I pump it (top air chamber 1st, bottom air chamber 2nd) to the recommended pressure, I cannot depress it more than about 40mm when pushing down on the fork with my full body weight. With my ex fox RL100 I could depress it about 80mm when sag was set at 10%. Is this normal for a Rock shock? PS: No, it is not on lockout
  18. I will also be keen. Not taking part in the national series because I do not want to keep the top buys up. Been doing the Karkloof XC races the part couple of years and it is totally awesome. Would like to do a amateur series. Go for it and good luck!
  19. Works ok, but do not get it anywhere near your brake rotors or tyres! Funny thing about that race is that you hope it doesn't rain when the alternative is incredible heat at high humidity. Love the race, but wish it wasn't in December. Another tip is to wear a water resistant cap (brow type) with a long brow under your helmet. Keeps the water from you helmet spunges from running into your face and protecting you from those drops at higher speeds. Also fit a piece of cut tube between your fork crown and uppers. It flexes when the fork depresses and prevents the mud from being shot out in front of you (this is the mud you ride into that gets in your eyes. Go with the right mindset, riding in rain and mud can be fun, but if you loose your sense of humour, it's all over.
  20. O, and it's the 1st GT that I see without Kendas. Now that may be a step in the right direction.
  21. The frame is interesting but ugly. A white or black with that gloss finish would look awesome. Even a Raleigh would look good with all those specs.
  22. Sounds like the problem is your bb only. They can be replaced seperately (unless you itch somewhere and you want to scratch If you scratch, spares availability, weight and value for SLX is tops! Also consider Aerozine carnks. The weight of XTR at the cost of XT. Happy shopping!
  23. You'll be amazed how much good stuff the are in mould. Leave it like that for long enough and for your next race nutrition, just add water (and take some white gold with on the ride, just for incase).
  24. Dear Santachris. I wish to buy that bicycle bell thingy that says "track please" in a polite and verrrrry petit ladies voice. Does not have to be carbon or titanium. Oh...and while you are at it, get me a set of Spartagus legs, I will pay R2400 ea no quarrel! Love your work
  25. Easy to make those patties. You just drive over a cow with a steam roller. Wonder if RegLizard had his snake burger yet?
