  1. My interpretation on escatology (study of end times according to Biblical prophecies) is that the world will not end. Yes, I believe in the rapture and the 2nd return of Christ and the final battle of Armageddon 7 years after the rapture and the 1000 of peace that will follow that. I also believe earthquakes, floods and other natural disasters will increase (and already is if you look at stats and the news!) as we get closer to the rapture; but I certainly do not believe the world will END.
  2. Keep in mind that delamination usually doesn't happen overnight. Should you remove your tire that had Stans in, put it in storage and then re-use months afterwards, chances of delamination (in any make) increases dramatically. If you insist on Stans, put a tire of your choise on (as long as you do not choose Kenda UST) and ride it till it is gedaan and remember to put fresh Stans in every month or 2.
  3. Bontrager's 29-3 Team and XDX are also available in TLR (Tubeless ready). Not sure if they are UST, but they have a thick sidewall. They roll well and are "light". Front specific 2.25 at 730g and rear 2.0 at 600g. You will also love the Geax Suguaro 29" TNT. Love these on my 26" and available in TNT as well for 29". They are hard wearing in the middle with soft compount grippy outer knobs.

  5. Just did the opposite. Went from years on a 26" boing-boing to a 29" hardtail. Suppose there is a time and place for both, but I am truly surprised at how smooth the hardtail is, almost like a 26" softail.

  10. Wanted to bring this up before. When I started mtb (not from a roady background), the thing that I enjoyed most was the people I rode with, suffering like me, making jokes, helping where they could and generally just having a ball. Six years later and the vibe totally changed, although I must admit I am slightly further up the field with some guys taking it very seriously. It is heartbreaking. It is like the sport grew to fast and there are not enough old timers proportional for the new guys to learn from. ...or maybe it is because so many road riders started mtb
  11. What does these go for in UST these days? Thought of checking them out myself, but worried about durability and price.
  12. For me there is only one choice these days: Geax Barro Mountain TNT. Surprisingly low rolling resistance, gripy in corners, verrrrry durable even on tar and it's light. Great in all conditions although obviously not a mud specific tyre. Imo the Saguaro has even lower running resistance and that for a larger volume tyre, but not as grippy in the corners as the Barro. Happy shopping.
  13. Problem is often that the tire doesn't bead properly. Some tires harder to fit on certain rims than others. Most tires has an indication ring about 3mm from the rim edge. See if the ring is the same distance from the rim right around. Soap it up and pump it up to the tire max recommendation pressure and check again. If it is still not true, pump it some more if it is still not right(sweat pouring from every pore at theis stage). You may hear a loud POP and calling me names at this point, but it should hopefully only be the bead popping in correctly.
  14. Hijack on: Do it yourself in less than your travelling time and the tools and oil will pay for the fuel. Few things as satisfying as gathering up the courage and then doing this yourself. Hijack off
  15. 10psi less, thus 20psi front and 25psi rear. Especially for muddy and slippery rides.
  16. It depends on tire volume, type of riding you do and type of terrain. Generally a large volume tire (don't be fooled by the size indicated on the tire, a 2.1 Saguaro propable has a larger volume than a 2.4 Mountain King for example) can be pumped lower pressures than a small volume tire. For the normal marathon riding we do in SA, I go for 30psi up front and 35psi in the rear (if both are the same tire of around 2.0in), but I know of guys running them up to 10psi each less. Oh, I weigh 80kg.

  18. Jip. Plenty of replies to come from guys who did the Nissan Van Gaalens in Nov. Worst is that the rest of the day you remain a zombie. Funny that you recaal your pain, normally the next day all is forgotten and excitement for the next race starts.
  19. They are not glued. The latex based sealant hardened over time. That is normal, but that is why you need to replace the sealant regularly as it becomes a solid lated film on the entire tire internar area, thickest near the beads and can even form a ball. It becomes a problem when using Stans tape as the tire and tape can get "glued" together strongly and damaging the tape when trying to seperate them is a real concern. Doing this during a race is a b!tch. Can't go wrong with tubeless rims!
  20. The con of the price is far outweighed by the durability of these tires. I regularly run the Geax Barro Mountain up front and the Geax Saguaro and sometimes Geax Mescal (not used when riding very muddy or very rocky terrain)at the back. Where other tires are eaten up by tar or the likes in no time, these babies just last for ever. Think it is due to the different compounds rubber used on different sections of the tires. They are pretty light too due to the thinner, but armoured sidewalls. Never suffered a sidewall cut yet. Opening a can of worms, but in my opinion the Geax TNT tires outlasts Conti Mt King 4:1 and Maxxis Xmarks by at least 2:1. (I accept type of terrain has an influence on this)

  23. Bike industry no different than any other. You p@ss off one customer and you loose 10. You keep 100 happy and you may gain 1. Wrong mechanic on the wrong day. I had poor service from guys that never let me down before as well. Leaves a bad taste in the mouth. Everybody makes mistakes, it is how they react to your complain that shows their character. Looks like they reacted badly. Pitty.

  25. We will do the Salmonsdam reserve ride for sure. It will push the hr up though, then there is the great ride up the mountain behind Hermanus all the way to behind Voelklip and back, the great ride into the Hemel and Aarde valley and beyond, the .....Even tried the Oak valley and various other trails near Grabouw? Endless singlerack boys! See you there.
