  1. I know there's been so much said on the topic, but i'm still going to give or try to take my 5 cents. I did the 25/29km mountainbike race saturday and my heart rate was averaged at 194. This would at my age be 98% of max. I know like dangle says your supposed to get a stress test and see what your body can handle, but as a rough yes/no: Is this healthy for your heart?
  2. http://www.gizmag.com/m55-beast-human-electric-hybrid-bike-announced/16909/ http://images.gizmag.com/gallery_lrg/m55beast.jpg Budapest mountain bike enthusiasts coming together as M55 have spent the last four years bringing their pedelec dream into existence. Now the Beast has risen. The first hand-built, luxury human-electric bikes out of the workshop doors will be restricted to a limited production run of just 55 and are said to feature the very best that technology has to offer. In addition to the fully CNC-machined aluminum frame and carbon fiber plates, the Beast 55 benefits from Formula One stopping power, a brushless electric motor that is claimed to make uphill climbs a relatively easy affair, and Fox suspension. The company's aim is a lofty one – to "build the best hybrid bikes on the planet." To this end, input from numerous electronic and mechanical engineers, industrial designers, and avid cyclists was aimed squarely at the design goal. M55 decided early on that its end product would be the result of a no-compromise attitude, and gathered what it considered to be the very best components available into one place. Custom-made solutions would be developed to answer any troublesome technical issues. Putting it all together After four years in development – during which time various frame designs and materials were tested and numerous components tried out – the Beast 55 has now taken on form. At its center is the futuristic-looking 19-inch CNC-machined Monocoque 7075 aluminum frame. To this has been added a Fox fork and rear suspension, the latter with a "Nukeproof titanium spring." The 26-inch wheels benefit from Syncros rims with Syncros and Rohloff hubs and DT Alpine spokes. The handlebar and stem have been cast and CNC-machined, and sport ESI grips and an integrated LED headlight. M55 has secured exclusive use of Brembo disc brakes, which would otherwise normally be found "on Formula1 cars but not on bikes – until now." The drive consists of a Gebhardt GP custom front chainwheel, Rohloff rear cog and a specially developed KMC X1 chain, with a Rohloff Speedhub 500/14 tandem version coupled with a Rohloff twist shifter gearing system. The Beast 55 is a hybrid human-electric bicycle where "the electric-powered assistance is only offered during active pedaling." Located near the custom crank, within the frame, is a 1900W EB-PC brushless electric motor with a rated torque of 32Nm, although there's a mechanism included which is said to "increase the maximum assist torque to 104Nm." A drive-integrated sensor looks for moments when some assistance might be needed and kicks in the electric motor. M55 says that its e-bike has a maximum speed of 77 kph (47.8mph) at 120rpm pedal cadence. The company reports that at full pelt, the 44V Tenergy Li-polymer battery pack rated at 20mAh will power the motor for about 44km (27 miles), but in ECO mode the Beast is claimed to run for 100-120 km (62 - 75 miles) on a single charge. If the battery dies mid-journey, then the bike simply loses the electric assist and the rider can complete the trip by pedal-power only. A "virtually maintenance free" experience is also promised. Unleashing the Beast There will be a couple of distinct product release waves. The first run to be manufactured in the new center in Budapest, near the Pilis mountains, will be limited to just 55 units. This represents the model featured in the gallery – the Beast 55 – complete with fully CNC machined aluminum frame with carbon-fiber plates. This special collector's edition has recently been shown off at the SEMA trade show in Las Vegas and will be available for purchase from February next year for US$35,300. In April 2011, the company will make the first of its "standard edition" Beast e-bikes available. This model will feature much of the same technology as the limited "55" model but with "hydroformed aluminum not CNC machined." This is reflected in the reduced pricing of US$15,200. Every 55th e-bike produced will be a special edition model sporting a custom paint job. M55 is currently working on an urban model called the Daemon, which will be available with optional one-sided front suspension and come in male and female tailored varieties. This model is also set for an April release and will cost US$13,300. Personalizations and customizations can also be created on request.
  3. Anyone know of a shop that sells something similar to this: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=45391 http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Images/Models/Full/45391.jpg http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/LargeImage.aspx?ModelID=17687 damn thats sexy
  4. I had normal ust larsen TT's for a while and they got cut up on the sidewall pretty easily, seems like the lust crossmark and monorail i have now are a bit tougher. Might just be because i havent done Groot marico on them yet though
  5. I recon halfway in your race with you heartrate between 170-200 your not going to give a flip about style... Those wormdrive tires DO look wicked though.
  6. Hatfield cycles are great on servicing, forks and all. I never remember names but the one dude is super helpful.
  7. Just out of curiosity, why would you prefer the Aspen over a Monorail? It's probably nitpicking but the monorail gets a slightly better rating.
  8. No none of the programs picks it up, windows drivers are up to date, motherboard drivers are up to date. I've tried deleting everything remotely close to "garmin" and "grmn" and still nothing works. None of the drivers work, not even if i try and force the device to use the grmnusb.inf driver file (which even windows identifies as the Garmin driver) it's supposed to use.
  9. No, safemode doesnt help anything, windows update says there's a garmin root hub update available but even that doesnt install. It's windows 7 64 bit btw. It's a bit late now, need to get sleep for tomorrows race. Will try the garmap forum afterwards thanks.
  10. No i'll try that now (good idea btw)
  11. I've downloaded the Firefox (you know, the browser) communicator plugin, Garmin trainer and the updater. I've installed them all, uninstalled them all (including the registry files i could find), tried new ports, nothing. There are a couple of GRMUSB files in System32 but it doesn't want to delete them...
  12. I tried that but it also bomb out with an error: http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm80/wb_goku/Random/Untitled-2.png It makes no sense... But thanks I appreciate your effort ALLOT
  13. Thanks for the advice but none of the programs detects the device, there's nothing happening except windows seeing there is A device but being unable to identify it. I installed the driver on a separate PC and when connecting the device it picks it up just fine. So, the issue is somewhere in my PC's USB but that doesnt make any sense because everything else works works fine, Nokia USB, mouse&keyboard, external HDD etc... I literally have no idea what to do. I've read on the garmin forums that people with similar problems have had to get a garmin technition connect to their pc remotely and fix the issue but no one knows what exactly the issue is. It cant be that hard... Overall I'm dissapointed with garmin technical support, in none of the gamin driver issue posts do you see a tech helping out. http://www.bargainbabe.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/Computer-frustration1.jpg
  14. I think thats the issue, windows doesn't identify the device properly: http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm80/wb_goku/Random/Untitled-1.jpg I tried updating my USB drivers though and came uppon this wierd driver updating program which actually identified there is a garmin without drivers, but it cost 29$ so...
  15. It's the 305 and I'm using firefox. But it's the driver installation thats buggy. http://www.flyingcracker.com/Images/garmin_edge_305.jpg http://www.glatzopatzo.de/wp-content/UserFiles/Image/2008/Firefox-filled-tshirt.jpg http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm80/wb_goku/Random/Untitled.jpg
  16. Nope, I tried running the same file on a different pc and it worked. But thanks for responding.
  17. Hey I'm new to the Garmin edge range and I'm trying to use Garmin connect. Downloaded the browser pluggin and installed it as well as the USB driver but when installing the driver it says "installation has failed or you have chosen to stop" which ofcoarse i haven't. Does anyone have some suggestions to solve the issues? I'd greatly appreciate some help
  18. Anyone here use NOXPLODE? Just curios. I've been using it as a preride drink and it give a rather strong boost, but not sure about the creatine effects, I dont drink it more than twice a week. I've never used creatine extensively for that matter but i've never had any side effects other than possibly a little skin issues.
  19. I messed up the bearings in my XT rear hub and they told me i had to replace the whole thing for R600 + labour which i did, but i'm sure i could have just bought the bearings and replace them for a tenth the price...
  20. I tried eggs when i just started with clip ins (got the cheapest ones) and i hated them, so i prefer my shimano XT's. They never fail a clip in and rarely clog up. Maybe if i tried em now they'd be better but nah
  21. I installed a new seat the other day and i figured i'll move it a bit forward to get me in a more upright position and minimize back pain. But it had the reverse effect, because it forced my back into a hunched position making it worse. Moved it more or less to the center position according to the seat markings and it a WHOLE lot better now.
  22. Seriously, a Garmin edge 800 for that price?! Seems too good to be true
  23. I wont be pointing fingers, but i know of atleast one shop that I heard them say they put something extra with the Stan's solution to thicken it (for whatever reason...) so that will make it more difficult to hear anything "slouch around". So I've bought my own bottle to do fill-ups myself. Enough to properly hear the slouching and not worry
  24. Reads like one of those pamphlets they hand out at brooklyn corners about Dr Mombasa...something something. You just short: getting loved one out of prison.
