I know this is an old thread but I just saw a great hack on YouTube so it’s not my idea.
simply snip off the tip of a NERF dart. Then cut it lengthways.
Undo your cable plus/ports. Put the the foam sleeve around the cable and secure with a bit of sticky tape. Slide as many as you want/need up the tube.

NERF darts are cheap and easy to purchase. Takealot and toyshops stock them.

i was about to buy these darts then i realized i dont have those rubber ports. My cable holes are just wide enough for the cables . this is such an easy fix ????

  2. I have this marvel bike which i won with a spar competition . Its nothing special but feels better than the Raleigh ( game , makro ) bikes . Very basic with entry level shimano parts which felt ok at 1st but after getting a mtb with deore parts i must say the 2 feels worlds apart .

Got mugged on a pedestrian bridge next to the river in Rondebosch this morning by a dude with a gun. He just took my phone, don't think he saw my watch and fortunately wasn't interested in the bike

    It happened here:

Always thought this section was relatively safe, it's like 250m away from the police station and normally has a fair bit of foot traffic. I've even taken the kids riding here.

Did this guy get away on foot ? I usually run through this part of rondebosch and seems to be safe

  4. VERY nice bike.  Brilliant value for money.

It is already 1x (single gear in the front).

The 10 speed cassette at the back could be considered "old school", with most bikes now offering 11 or 12 speed cassettes.  HOWEVER, another thread now compares two bikes in the R40k price range ... with "NS" components, which some would say is worse quality than this 10 speed unit.  Practically you will have slightly larger jumps between some of the gears ... hardly an issue for many riders.  The 11-42 range is wide enough for most use.

    ENJOY this bike !!

PS - I have owned a couple of Merida bikes, so I am a bit biased.  :whistling:

    Thanks for the feedback Chris

  5. Hi All

Can anyone give me some reviews or personal opinions on this bike ?

Will be using it for trail rides maybe once a week. Nothing serious .

i have been browsing bikehub, gumtree and facebook market place since December but decided that i would rather buy something new. Also dont want to buy something too entry level as i have seen many posts here saying that the cheaper bikes gives endless problems and arent reliable when doing off road cycling .

Are there other bikes in this price range that i should consider ? Budget is R14k .

Also considering the Talon 1 but currently no stock . Stock levels of the entry level bikes seems low all over .

    thanks

  6. Hi Guys

Been road and trail running for a few years so would like to add trail riding to the hobby list. Currently looking for a decent beginner 2nd hand bike but to me the 2nd hand market seems very wack at the moment ( no disrespect to the classified section :P ) I think I'll save up a bit more to buy something new .

Cant wait to hit the trails !!

    regards
