  1. If a bike can be alive, then this one certainly is ......... such a pity it has to carry a slowpoke (like me) around. The view helped for a while on the way back.
  2. Gravel bikes? Pffft says the Cannibal, those are for softies! This 1993 Eddy Merckx really is a monster that can handle anything. Like win a TdF.........and take me up and down the mountain, 32 years later, without missing a beat. It's OK to love a bike! (I couldn't just post 1 picture of it!)
  3. So glad to hear this very good news and glad that Luke got the spot and support he really deserves.
  4. It is terribly sad that I find this very funny.....sorry
  5. We were talking about the wonderful bike builds we have done over the years from out of the rafters of his shop..........I said that I truly have sympathy for him having to move that treasure trove of a thousand bikes and ten times the parts.......especially if I think of how impossible it is to tidy up my little study at home with only 5 bikes in it........and I had to really resist walking out of there with another new project or two........I am more afraid of my wife than I can help Nils........but if ever there was a time to help a great guy, this is it.......go buy old bikes to turn into build projects for next years Eroica........or just a monster build........or a cheap commuter.........or a single speed...........another art bike.......even a fixie for the really really hardcore guys. Just do it!
  6. The CoCt has been proactive removing these illegal land grab settlements for the last few years. First they did it for City land, now they are getting to PRASA and Department of Public Works land. They are however tackling them one by one and it takes a lot of time, but at least they ARE doing something. As for me, I live in an area affected by a similar problem. The isue I have with the removal of these "nests" of illegal occupiers (and I agree that it must be done), is that many of the street people just disperse into the surrounding neigbourhood......and cause more petty crime there until the local neighbourhood watch can get on top of it again. (that was our experience anyway.)
  7. ............not sure when, but they are moving to Obs soonish. Maybe check before you go?
  8. Were far fewer cyclists also
  9. Just because I posted that first one of the pangolin bursting into pieces........to show what humans are doing to it........(must be a year ago now)......this one is the follow-up.......of how Daniels study has helped piece together what we know of the Temminks Pangolin.
  10. ........at cinemas in the spring, starring Matthew......
  11. Deon showed me a picture where they stuck a rake into the accumulated silt that washed down in one spot.........and it looked at least waist deep!
  12. If only he would use the same soap to come clean........
  13. No, just admitting to be a slippery guy.
  14. Sorry to laugh Mark. I can just picture the smoke coming out of your nostrils.......better not open your mouth or the flames will set the bridge on fire........and what then?
  15. The Cape Town City Council and the mayor should be forced to go swim across that lagoon .......... perhaps they will then DO SOMETHING about the huge amounts of raw sewerage flowing into it from the cities malfunctioning sewerage works. Just talking about what they are planning to do, or an emergency sticky plaster temporary fix is no longer good enough. The terrible pollution is the end result of allowing the massive new suburbs to grow along the West coast without planning ahead and building new sewers and treatment plants. But the property taxes from new developments were just too enticing, and spending on unglamourous things like sewerage works too unattractive, I suppose ............. If I lived on Woodbridge island, I would have made it my little project to go take a dump in front of the mayors office every morning!
  16. Through UCT and up up up (legs and lungs protesting all the way) .........before down down down.........
  17. @ Wayne Fantastic. There are many undiscribed species ........ and if you find one of those, you get to name it ........ perhaps with your Hub name? Also, look out for glow in the dark ones. Another challenge to photograph.
  18. One of the fluorescent species? Beautiful. (I collect edibles here in ZA and I don't think we have any of the fluorescent ones here.)
  19. Or best of all: "He's been on BikeHub forever......and therefore can be trusted" Just come fetch the bike, ride it and if you are happy, then pay me!
  20. Whatever happened to "It's a boerseun, you can trust him" or "he belongs to my moms' church, he must be honest" or "he's a Grey old boy, they are all great guys" or "he doesn't know what Facebook is, he must be old skool genuine"? Or "he sounded honest over the phone"? What about "bring cash and meet me in front of the police station? I miss the simpler times..........and feel more like an old fart by the day!
  21. I admire that you see the big picture (landscape) but also the little details (flowers). Sill freakishly jealous!
  22. I'm sorry, but I have to confess to suffering from a very serious bout of jealousy........
  23. My No. 1 favourite pass in the whole wild world!
