  1. Is there a benefit of VPN over Smart DNS?
  2. Some help and advice please.... I am considering a VPN. I have been looking at IP Vanish. Question is though... Smart DNS (Unotelly) or VPN (IPVanish)?
  3. I have a question reagrding the BBC iPlayer @Stretch: What are you using it for? Is it for the catchup?
  4. Slowbee I doubt that you will be able to use two different programs at the same time anyway (i.e. be able to drive Kodi in the lounge as well as surf the net in the other room) even if you have two different pointing devices attached at the same time like a corded mouse and a 2.4Ghz remote. Pretty sure you could use the screens separately in different rooms with separate devices at different times however Maybe try and adjust the resolution settings on the TV to compensate for the card? Alternatively a new card may be in order.... HOWEVER it would probably be cheaper and easier to just buy an android TV box and install Kodi on that and run it separate from the PC
  5. As far as I understand (working off of Windows 7 settings here) if you extend the displays (Control Panel\Display\Screen Resolution) then you can run different resolution settings on both screens (Assuming of course that you have dual monitor capability on your graphics card). Not sure if you can run two instances of Kodi together on the same PC and have them run independently though...
  6. What about filling the gap with a waterproof slurry type of waterproof concrete? Sika (and I am sure ABE do it as well) make an additive for plaster that waterproofs it so pretty sure you can mix up some DIY waterproof concrete. That will stop water getting in and then get hold of someone like Flick Damp Proofing and get them to inject the wall at the base to prevent rising damp. The top of the wall should be capped/flashed to stop water getting in as well. Can you join the two roofs together at the top of the apex and seal it? An epoxy resin floor coating should take care of the floor. However if there is no damp course you may have a problem....
  7. What about a wireless keyboard? (Would depend on the range though.... Same applies for Bluetooth) I believe that you can get wifi keyboards as well??
  8. It's like an OCD thing.... Must finish what has been started. Same applies to shyte movies unfortunately...... Fargo - tick The Knick - might have a look. Heard good things Mr Robot - Not sure Mrs Grebs will be into that..... Might fall back on the old faithfuls like Blue Bloods or Person of Interest... Got some catching up to do there
  9. Last episode of Dexter S8 in the bag last night. Was an interesting watch.... Bit of a sh!tty ending TBH. Really didn't expect it to fragment like it did but then again the previous seasons should have been a warning that this wasn't going to end well..... The question is...... WHAT NOW?!? Needs to be something that we don't have to chase the kids out to be able to watch.... EDIT: Not that we let them watch Dexter!!!!! I can see I am going to have to burn some bandwidth on IMDB this afternoon......
  10. If it's available on the Play Store then yes. Not sure on installing other software but pretty sure that if it is an app designed for Android it can be installed from an "untrusted source" I created a gmail account specifically for the TV box so that there isn't any cross contamination between my phone apps and the box apps My Media Library is all on an external HDD that is still connected to my WDTV Live (My youngest son is in Grade one and isn't able to read everything yet but has mastered the WD Menu navigation to get what he needs so it will stay connected for a while until he figures out the Kodi Menus which I assume won't take him too long) I access my media via Kodi. I have Serviio installed but haven't used it for ages. It comes up when you do a search with Kodi but I chose not to use it as that means that my PC needs to be on to access the media. Ideally I want the HDD plugged directly into the MXQ Box Just in case you are leaning that way, The MXQ remote started giving shyte not long after I installed it. Wouldn't work. Was an intermittent fault and had to keep on resetting the box. After connecting the i8+ it has been a pleasure. We don't even switch the box off anymore. Order the i8+ (the "+" denotes that the unit has a backlight. Handy for visionally challenged folks like me that battle to see in the dark. The normal i8 isn't backlit) and the box together if you go that route. You'll end up with a keyboard eventually if you use Kodi and a full sized unit is a PITA. I know, I tried it..... Edit: meant to add that both are available from Banggood as well as from DX. I ordered my i8 from DX. Took 5 weeks to arrive. Couldn't find it locally at the time.
  11. I am very happy with my MXQ Pro Android Box running Kodi now that it is setup like I want it. I paired it with a Rii Mini i8+ as the original remote that it comes with just doesn't have enough buttons to fully utilize the Kodi functions available. Give me a call and we can chat if you like.
  12. You referring to Hairy's imagination and blood alcohol level?
  13. Thanks chaps The transaction will be completed tomorrow.
  14. Some advice please.... I have been offered a Black and Decker 800W router with all the attachments as well as a hard plastic case. Router was purchased around 2007 but has less than 10 hours run time on it and it's in really good nick (A work colleague is selling and I trust him). It takes 1/4" bits. He's asking R400. I think it's a good buy. I realise that it's not Festool or Makita but for an apprentice carpenter like myself it looks like a good starting point. Any comments?
  15. Finally getting to terms with the TV box and Kodi with the right add-ons is awesome. Sat down last night and watched a rerun of the MotoGP followed by highlights of the Dauphine and thereafter some Isle of Man TT highlights. Getting some good entertainment with the BBC and ITV channels on FilmonTV as well as Exodus and Phoenix. Not as simple to navigate as a DSTV remote but definitely worth the setup effort and the research to find out what works. Edit: Spelling
  16. Just spreading the love around my good man Enjoy!
  17. Speaking of the TT, just in case anybody has a setup at home running Kodi and happens to have Filmon.TV addon installed and can get access to itv4.... Here is the TV schedule for TT coverage for the next few days..... Just remember that that is their time....
  18. I know it's probably already been posted among the 230 odd pages of this thread, but I have been asked to source a machine for the office. Looked a a solution from Ciro on a rental basis but we don't do the volumes. They need 70 - 100 cups a day. There are 13 people in the office on a daily basis. Not sure yet if they will have access to the machine or not. Main reason is to be able to serve coffee for meetings. These meetings happen twice a week and can number from 10 to 30 delegates. Needs to be able to deliver cups in reasonably quick succession as people arrive for the meeting. Preferably a bean to cup machine that can do espresso, black, white and cappuccino at the push of a button. Looking for something towards the R10-15k mark with good local backup service. Located in the Durban area. Any ideas?
  19. So for the lazy and impatient ous you should charge a rand a piece and they can collect any time or for a nominal fee you'll deliver...
  20. Anybody manage to have a look at the CR500AF?
  21. Was worried that the stripper would stain the wood. Mate also suggested a heat gun.
  22. Tested my wood working "skills" this weekend..... I have had a small bookshelf in my garage for well over 15 years that I have been threatening to strip for a very long time. Not very big. About hip high with 3 shelves. I decided that this was the weekend. I pulled it out and relieved it of the accumulated cr@p that it had been burdened with over the last decade and a half and proceeded to do an assessment. Started of with the conservative approach and pulled out a scraper. That barely scratched the surface of the sh!tty cracked PVA top coat... Second phase involved using a 2 inch wood chisel as a scraper. Better, but still not the result that I was looking for. What it did do was reveal the decades of paint layers This called for drastic action... so out came the 4" grinder along with the last two remaining 150mm 80grit sanding discs that I had. Off came the guard and the work began! (In hindsight a mistake as is evident by the smiley on my middle finger from contact with the disc through a set of working gloves.... Safety first kids ) Several hours later the wood was stripped bare and I stood back to admire my efforts. Broke out the orbital sander and started to smooth off the rough bits and take off the edges. Paint had soaked into the knots as well as all the joints. I think I counted around 7 layers of paint as I was stripping and sanding. As worked progressed I quickly realised that this was not to be a restoration project. With that amount of paint that it had on it and what it was used for over the last few decades (garage storage) I decided that a "Distressed" look would be more suitable. So the end result was a "Distressed" Bookshelf with a coat of Polyeurathene varnish that I finished too late last night to take any pictures. I doubt that I will because it doesn't really warrant being on display in the public forum. It is simply an old piece of furniture that has been given a new lease on life in the bedroom of a teenager.
  23. I'd give this a go... http://2smokin.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/TDR350-Featured-Image-648x430.jpg If it ever materialized...
