  1. Looks really great Ed! Where did you get the plans from? Was chatting to a mate the other day about a small boat for two adults and two kids so that we can put around the dam in search of behemoth bass... less than 15hp you don't need a skippers either... Obviously I'm talking motor not sailing here
  2. So the LTE bits are getting handed back to Telkom today... After waiting for somebody to call me about the installation of the antenna, I ended up doing it myself. Logged on to the router to check signal strength etc and according to Google I am sitting in the "Good" range. HOWEVER..... the download speeds were nowhere near what was quoted. Best I saw was 15Mbs out of a claimed 90Mbs and it mostly sat at around the 4-7Mbs mark and the latency was a joke You should see the look on a young gamers face when the speed test returns a ping of 879ms... Had a chat to a Telkom tech who was looking at my faulty telephone line and he reckons I am wasting my time with LTE at my address. The signal in that area is cr@p. Chatted to the consultant that signed me up and she said no problem. Bring the stuff back and they will log a case and get the contract cancelled due to lack of service. Looks like I am going to have to persevere with my ADSL for a while until the fibre is available
  3. A friend of mine once told me this: "Once you have made your purchase, stop shopping." It's bound to happen Stretch. You got the best deal that you could at the time you were ready to buy Still cheaper than that M-net subscription that you are going to cancel/have cancelled now that you have access to all that internet TV...
  4. On a brighter note, I finally got around to installing TVaddons "fusion" on my phone last night. Used the addon installer to ad Exodus, Phoenix and FTV. Had the pleasure of watching Cav beat Greipel to the line while chilling in bed with the heater on. What a close finish....
  5. Had an interesting conversation with a lady from Telkom yesterday. Turns out that my stupidly slow line speed is as a result of them upgrading my line speed and taking my money for the last two months and not updating my data package.... That was still set at 2Mbs uncapped and that is where your download speed is set apparently. It has been referred to the billing department who I am assured will pass a credit for the last two months and get everything sorted just in time for them to disconnect the service... On the LTE side.... well still waiting for someone to come and install my antenna (I am sure that these okes all operate on Windows time...) Line speed fluctuates badly. Getting from as low as 0.4Mbs up to a max of 14Mbs which is a far cry from the claimed 90Mbs that they are offering (They do say "up to" in the add). The latency is off the charts much to the disgust of my gaming teenage son. Last night we saw 1014ms.... It has been as low as 55ms but that must have been a once off. I am sure it has a lot to do with the installation though. I am less than 2km from the exchange where the antenna is mounted. Almost line of site. Here is hoping that a contractor gets my job card and comes and sorts this installation out soon!
  6. Can ride a bike for sure. As long as he doesn't have to talk.....
  7. What Mike Bike said. Sounds like over fueling with the smoke (Assuming it is black smoke) Either that or the water temperature sensor close to the thermostat housing was faulty and sending false readings to the ECU causing the overfueling and the rough running...
  8. I have it under good authority that for the pricely sum of R150 a few years ago there was a chap in West Street in Durban that would give your mileage a trim.... You just gave him the numbers and he typed them in. Don't for one second think that if a car has a digital ODO that the mileage that is shown is gospel. If you buy a car make sure that all the supporting service documentation is available and ties up.
  9. Diangosed the problem within 5 minutes. Car was in limp mode. Fault was turbo overboost. Previous owner must have used 500ppm diesel. Vanes on the VVT were stuck open. Insurance warranty paid out for a new turbo assembly and installation [emoji106]
  10. Had issues with my wife's Audi. R950 to run a diagnostics test and HOPEFULLY identify the problem...
  11. That would be like draining your oil and forgetting to replace the sump plug before filling up with new oil..... Check, check, check and the recheck to be sure. All the tools back in the tool box? Check again to make sure
  12. I feel your pain.... Did brake shoes and slaves a few weeks back on my Frontier. Had issues with the clips and springs and when I finally got it all clipped back in I realised that I hadn't connected the handbrake cable.....
  13. Have you ever tried to re-assemble one of the things after the springs and clips have jumped off before you have had a chance to memorize their locations?!?
  14. As far as batteries go, my money has always gone to Varta, Deltec (Delco Freedom when they were available) and most recently I purchased an Energizer (The 2 year warranty version) and no issues so far. The Deltec gave my late father close to 8 years service, the Varta in my Isuzu Double Cab was still going strong when I sold the car and the battery was already 4 years old. Prior to that we used SABAT. Have an Exide Silver something in my Mom's Corsa that's behaved itself so far. Brakes.... I do my own DIY here. Alfa Disks with either ATE or Ferrodo pads. Nothing else. (Except for the OEM pads for my wife's Audi to resolve a clicking noise upon applying the brakes. Brakes worked fine but the noise bugged me. Changed from the Motorrite pads that were fitted when we got it to the OEM Audi pads and the noise went away...) Tried cheap pads that promised no dust but they ended up eating discs. I don't buy "housebrand" items either no matter what story the salesman spins me. Generally speaking, you get what you pay for and I'm not saving a rand or two when it comes to brakes... As an aside, if you do a lot of short trips or your vehicle stands for long periods of time, maybe look at investing in a CTek charger. They have build in "intelligence" that will monitor your battery and perform maintenance keeping it in good condition.
  15. Got my LTE activated today. Can't wait to get home and see how it performs Interested to see how close I get to the claimed 90Mbps.....
  16. Is hardboard and MDF the same as Supawood?
  17. Good to hear! Just a question for the tech gurus, does the streaming side of Kodi fall under video streaming like Netflix or does it fall under Peer to Peer data transfer like Torrent downloads ...?
  18. Canceled it today [emoji106] Nothing like crap service to help you find what you need.
  19. It only loads sometimes....
  20. Damn, you should be able to like that twice!
  21. Thanks anything is better than the 0.4Mb I'm currently getting on my 4Mb line....
  22. Just finished S01E3 of Orange is the new black. This is hilarious!!
  23. Is anybody using Telkom Uncapped LTE? Having endless *** with my ADSL line so I signed up for the LTE deal today. R799 a month uncapped. 90Mbs download and 25Mbs upload. 50Gb cap on P2P and Newsgroups.
  24. Thanks for that. http://www.drummondsflooring.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/Bowden1-550x550.gif
