  1. unless going down hill.
  2. Catastrophic Crater Cruise for me. Chain snapped and tore off my rear deraileur 18km in before the 1st water table. single speed didnt work as chain skipped up and over tightened. I abandoned 21km in, and then hobbling back to the start I punctured. must have lost my bomb aplicator nozzle when rebuilding the chain earlier, luckily had my hand pump. Such a miserable end to an absolutely gorgeous day and friendly good start in B batch. I hope this marks the end of this years bad luck! 1 destroyed chain 1 destroyed rear deraileur 1 destroyed freehub body 1 huge hole in my racing ralph - plug keeps falling out 1 destroyed deraileur hanger 1 DNF entry fee no medal *sigh next year will be better!
  3. looks like the 2 day may be wet
  4. 1 week for me too, looking forward to it.
  5. "Its not about the bike..." LA.
  6. Weather is more important than staring group. Dont expect your 94.7 sub 3 to be anything close to an Argus sub 3 argus is longer and subject to hectic wind or heat. You have to average 37km/h at Argus or you can forget about it - easier said than done.
  7. rocket rons or nobby nics in front work better than the ralphs
  8. the banks of the Tugela are tree lined where we stay at emseni, and quite deep from what i remember. for flyfishing you may need to go recce an open wading friendly spot. probably find s m yellows or similar
  9. tears.
  10. yup, arrive friday night, have dinner at Emseni, sleep in your team tent on the banks of the Tugela, ride sat, eat, chill sleep, ride sunday, eat, head home - awesome weekend, cant wait.
  11. probably load quicker if they tied a rope to its totie... looks like one helluva process
  12. Swim, Ride, and Run, downhill...
  13. agreed. have dealt with Janos, all good. ordering from their webite is easy too.
  14. When things get wet and muddy, especially in KZN, I noticed 10speed does create issues with 2 rings up front and chainsuck, even when everything is properly lubed and set. (thinner chain and less clearance)The FD does get fouled and performance wanes when really clogged up with mud and grass. Having the single ring up front has done away with this completely. enjoying 1x10 at the moment, obviously there may come a time that something really steep and technical forces me out the saddle, but then again, I have never found a hill that I cannot walk up.
  15. absolute spoil-sport
  16. Darwin moment...
  17. apparently...
  18. Extra R1k - Sram X9 type 2 is great, R1k cheaper, and 15g heavier than XO type 2. an expensive 15g if thats your route. from my experience using 34t Absolute Black spiderless chainring (on a XX1 crank) and 11/36t with X9 type 2, no chain drops, crisp shifting, no chain slap, been a helluva lot of fun.
  19. raw silk for me please...
  20. Tough race, but then many many races in the magaliesburg area are very technical in nature. If you are a regular trailseeker rider, VG stands out as the only true mountain bike race in their 5 race boquet, the others are dirt dashes (havent done Hakahana, so maybe its good too). This certainly would fool people into giving it a go thinking "how hard could it be" It was my first trip to VG, as always a well organised race. Good start, good batching, water tables well manned and stocked, route marking was fine. The route was tough. technical climbs made you work, the technical decent was very hairy. If you were not very fit, you certainly would not have enough confidence to ride everything, and in trying too, may found yourself mangled in the rocks. Technical riding needs a LOT of fitness, specifically upper body. I was good for 60km, but then BONKED HARD as the heat climbed up to well over 30 degrees. It was a very long final 10km for me. I hydrated well throughout, ate my potatoes and gels, but the previous nights upset stomach took its toll. No need to dumb this race down, its a good one. Tough and technical, will suck when its rainy and muddy, and will suck when its hot and your fitness levels aren't up to scratch. To advendurance, well done , but dont list it as 66km on the route description, when its 69km hahaha. Those last 3 km can break minds when its your first one and you are done.
  21. OMG are you mad?
  22. Honestly, How do you know the phonecalls made by buyers were not done so before the OP typed in his interest? Since its not face to face sale, you have no idea as to who beat you to the punch and got his cash on the table. Do you honestly believe sellers are sitting in front of their ads once they post them, just to respond to whomever is interested? OMG, what if they need a toilet break? Calamity. pfffft. If there is a phone number in the advert, then this is implied as a means to engage. use it or lose it. Buying anything on the hub is a lottery, if you want it that bad make sure you get it. if you are too "scared"to make the physical phonecall and speak to the seller directly, but rather type a response then prepare to be disappointed as you certainly wont be first in the que.
  23. um, its the HUB. you pay, you play. simple. try selling stuff here with some guys saying "dibs" on this and that, and then never coming to the party.
  24. Is this little thing going uphill, or going downhill?
  25. Marathon B for me.
